Chapter 945: 008 Good get-togethers, good break-ups_4

Just as he stepped out of the Residential Area’s entrance, he saw Bernard Taylor standing not far ahead. He was quite surprised—wasn’t Bernard supposed to be abroad? Why had he returned at this time, and why was he appearing at the entrance to his Residential Area? Was he here to see him, or someone else?

It should not be Avery; after all, they were not living together.

Bernard looked at him, ended his phone call, and pocketed his phone without making any move to approach. Instead, it was Michael Auclair who, after being momentarily stunned, walked over to him.

"Bernard, you’re back? Are you here to see me?" Michael had felt quite superior back when he thought Bernard was just a doctor, but now that he knew Bernard was the sole inheritor of the Taylor Group, the only child of the Taylor Family, he no longer felt that superiority.

"Let’s find a place to talk." After Bernard spoke, he started walking ahead.

Michael thought for a moment, then followed at a leisurely pace.

Bernard casually chose a Café, ordered two cups of signature coffee, and Michael sat across him. Bernard’s bright eyes stared intently at him, making Michael feel oddly guilty.

"Bernard, what do you want to talk about?" Michael felt that the only thing they could possibly discuss was Avery. Yet the thought of Bernard wanting to talk about Avery made him rather uncomfortable.

"First, take a look at this." Michael had no idea where Bernard had gotten a manila envelope from, handing it to him when he was certain Bernard had come empty-handed.

With a touch of confusion, Michael opened the envelope and was then stunned by the photos inside. Suddenly, he shoved them all back in, "Well, Bernard, playing dirty isn’t part of being decent. Did you hire someone to hack our company staff’s computers? What’s the point of sending these photos to the employees?"

Michael lost his temper, finally understanding what the sudden appearance of such photos in the company that morning was all about. He thought it wasn’t easy to find a hacker of such calibre.

But what was his goal?

Was it to take Avery away from him? If so, shouldn’t these R-rated photos be sent directly to Avery? Why bother putting them on the computers at his company?

"I don’t interfere with your company’s matters; I only interfere with things between you and Avery. What happens with anyone else does not concern me. You’ve seen the photos. Just with these, you should know what the eventual outcome between you and Avery would be. So, I have only one condition: you and Avery nicely separate, and then my Taylor Group will discuss a project with you—a project that could make you a million. Whether you take this offer or not is up to you. Think it over; I’ll give you one day to decide. By this time tomorrow, you need to have an answer for me. If you can’t answer, rest assured, Avery will come to know every sordid detail about you and your female colleague at the company."

Bernard stated his demand indifferently; he was resolving the issue so calmly now simply because he didn’t want Avery Graham to get hurt, didn’t want her hurt by this scumbag. He would rather she lived in a fairytale world and that her breakup with Michael Auclair was amicable—for incompatible personalities or whatever other reason.

After all, Michael was to come up with the reason for their breakup. Bernard just wanted to minimize any potential harm the situation could cause Avery.

It wasn’t for Michael’s sake.

"Why are you doing this?" Michael was bewildered. If Avery were to see these photographs, his relationship with her would surely be over.

If Bernard just wanted to compete for Avery, that alone would have been enough. Why then offer him a project, and money on top of it? It was utterly baffling.

"This doesn’t concern you. You just need to take the project and the photos back with you. Of course, I still have copies of the pictures. Give it some thought—that will be all." Bernard stood up, paid for the two cups of coffee, his own untouched, and left.

Michael sat there, opening up the envelope containing the details of the project. It was a very good project, very profitable—the million was a mere estimate; if things went well, doubling the sum was feasible.

But, why would Bernard do this?

He was being evasive, unwilling to tell him.

Michael could hardly believe that Bernard had such detailed photos of him and Adelle Turner. That day in the living room, they had been reckless, forgetting to close the window, allowing their entire encounter to be captured.

But why would Bernard be the one in possession of these photos?

Now it seemed that breaking up with Avery was inevitable. According to Bernard’s suggestion, he could break up amicably with Avery and still get a sum of money.

If he refused to separate amicably, then Avery would find out, and a breakup would be certain.

Since the photos even included the date and location, Avery would know it was his home, so his lifelong wish to marry Avery was effectively unattainable now.

Bernard appeared to give him a choice, but in reality, he had left him no choice at all.
