Chapter 913: 003 Stay Overnight Together_3
"Don’t you only have a seven-day holiday?" Avery Graham asked in return, not particularly concerned with what Michael Auclair had called his wife.
"Yeah, so I plan to go back on the third day of the festivities. I think from New Year’s Eve to the second day at your place should be enough, right?" Michael Auclair laid out his plans, noting that since he had to work on the seventh day, he could only stay at their place for three days.
A three-day stay with the family.
"Hmm, okay," Avery Graham nodded.
"Great, then I’ll confirm the dates with my parents tonight." Michael Auclair still held a lot of respect for her, "The day after tomorrow is the company’s annual party and New Year’s Eve dinner. Will you come with me, is that okay?"
"The day after tomorrow?" Avery Graham frowned, having just agreed to dine with Nelson Castillo and his group. She didn’t know about Michael Auclair’s company’s annual party, and besides, they weren’t husband and wife yet. Wouldn’t it be inappropriate to attend someone else’s company banquet?
"What’s wrong, do you have something else on?" Michael Auclair guessed from Avery Graham’s reaction.
"Yeah, I’ve just agreed to something else. I’ll attend your company’s annual party next year, there’s plenty of time for that, don’t you think?" Avery Graham could only tell the truth.
She had indeed just promised Nelson Castillo; she was not the kind of person to break her word, nor was she someone who’d forget her loyalty at the sight of something new.
"That’s the only option, then." Michael Auclair nodded, reluctantly agreeing.
He felt a bit disappointed and his mood somewhat deflated. Avery Graham, carefree as she was, naturally didn’t notice, and didn’t even think to explain to him whom she had promised and who she was going to dine with.
She hadn’t even thought to ask him whether he would be willing to skip his company’s annual party to accompany her.
Suddenly, he remembered the conversation he had overheard at the office today, where the female staff were discussing what love is. He had some thoughts about it, feeling that Avery Graham’s feelings for him weren’t love, or perhaps not as strong.
Now, he felt this even more strongly; he sensed that Avery Graham didn’t care much about him.
Of course, these thoughts were just that—kept inside his head—after all, he didn’t want to bother Avery Graham with his baseless suspicions.
"Let’s go, what shall we have for dinner? Should we invite Giselle Browman as well?" Avery Graham asked, clutching his arm as she reached for her purse.
"How about we enjoy a couple’s night out today? Let’s not invite anyone else, is that okay?" Michael Auclair rarely made such a request. Ever since Giselle Browman moved in with Avery Graham, their already infrequent time alone had often turned into a party of three.
"...Okay. Let’s go. I’ll treat you tonight, I closed a big deal," Avery Graham nodded and took the initiative to take Michael Auclair’s arm. At that moment, he suddenly smiled, feeling a warm sensation in his heart.
Throughout their relationship, this was the first time Avery Graham had been so proactive with physical affection towards him—a significant step forward.
So, his earlier concerns must have been an overreaction.
In the end, the couple decided to have a seafood dinner, though in the end, it was still Michael Auclair who footed the bill. In his view, there was no such thing as letting a woman pay; he was somewhat of a traditionalist.
Avery Graham didn’t know what to say, so she just thanked him, happy to save yet another penny toward buying a house—the saved cost of the meal probably adding another square meter to the kitchen or restroom.
While paying the bill, Avery Graham also ordered a portion of hairy crab to take away for Giselle Browman.
As Michael Auclair went to settle the bill, Avery Graham sat alone at their spot. Nancy Sallow stepped out of the private room to head to the restroom, and they found themselves face-to-face in an unexpected encounter.
Their seat was directly opposite the door of the private room where Nancy Sallow was, and the moment she opened the door, Avery Graham even caught a glimpse of Bernard Taylor. It seemed they were out for a family meal, with more than just family—she also saw Mona Cervantes sitting with Bernard Taylor, suggesting the two had come together.
"Heh, it seems we’re destined to run into each other everywhere, Avery Graham." Nancy Sallow quickly closed the door, and before Bernard Taylor could see her, she wondered to herself why she cared so much about Avery Graham’s presence.
Mona Cervantes had met with Avery Graham today, speaking highly of her. Frankly, Nancy Sallow found it quite astonishing. How did someone like Avery Graham possess such an ability to persuade even someone like Mona Cervantes?
"Yes, it does seem that way," Avery Graham nodded without even calling her ’Auntie’.
During the months that Bernard Taylor was away, they actually had bumped into each other on the street, never initiating a greeting. It seemed Nancy Sallow looked down on her, while Avery Graham didn’t feel the need to bother.
