Chapter 904: 002 Out of Control

At 5:30 in the afternoon, Bernard Taylor appeared in the Cake Shop, where Avery Graham was tidying up at the counter. She had been standing at the cashier counter all afternoon, and at this time, someone was coming to take over her shift.

Her Cake Shop operates until 9:30 p.m., so this was when the evening shift staff arrived, and a cake master in the back kitchen would work until 8:30 p.m.

Bernard Taylor walked straight to the cashier counter, "Pack two of every flavor of cake for me. You have a delivery service, right?"

Bernard Taylor was asking the shop assistant who had just taken over the shift, not Avery Graham.

"Yes, we do, sir," the shop assistant replied happily, knowing that completing this order would mean a sizable addition to her commission for the month.

"Good, then deliver to this address." Bernard Taylor pulled out a piece of notepaper, wrote down an address, then tore it off and handed it to the shop assistant, "How much? I’ll pay in cash."

"...That won’t be necessary, he’s a VIP customer who still has money on account with our shop; you’ll see if you check." Avery couldn’t help but speak up. Bernard Taylor had money stored in her shop already, and since he wanted to buy cakes, he could just use the VIP card he got back then, "Mr. Taylor, just take out your VIP card and that’ll be enough."

"Forgot it, didn’t bring it with me, so I’ll pay in cash this time. Let the money stay in there," said Bernard Taylor, unbothered, waiting for the shop assistant to tally his bill.

"The total is six hundred and sixty-six," said the shop assistant, glancing at Avery Graham, and after seeing the owner did not speak further, she quoted the figure.

"Here’s seven hundred," Bernard Taylor counted out seven bills and placed them in front of the shop assistant.

The shop assistant was thrilled, accepted the seven hundred, printed a receipt, and handed back the change of forty together with the receipt, "Sir, this is your change of forty."

"Okay, thank you," Bernard Taylor took the receipt and the change.

By this time, Avery had finished packing up. Since Bernard Taylor had come in and didn’t seem to want to talk to her, she didn’t feel inclined to impose herself on him, so after giving a few instructions, she was ready to leave.

Just then, Bernard Taylor called out to her, "Avery Graham, it seems we still have an unsettled account."

Avery Graham wasn’t the only one taken aback by that; even the shop assistant who had just served Bernard Taylor was stunned.

So he knew their boss? No wonder he took such good care of business, not overlooking a single detail.

"Let’s talk outside," Bernard Taylor walked over to Avery, said a word to her, then headed outside first and directly got into his car.

Avery walked over to the car, Bernard Taylor turned his head slightly, signaling her to get in.

After considering for a moment, Avery decided to join him, having no dates planned anyway. Giselle Browman’s company was busy before the year-end, and Celia Wade was also busy, so there was no one to dine with her, so she simply got into Bernard Taylor’s car.

Truth be told, she was still a bit distressed about the encounter at the Fast Food Restaurant at noon, and now was a good time to ask him about it.

Once Avery got into the car, Bernard Taylor drove off, and seeing her puzzled face, he explained, "I’m hungry, so let’s find a place to eat first."

"Didn’t you just buy a lot of cakes?" Avery retorted.

"Yes, there’s someone who can digest those. Don’t worry, what would you like to eat?" Bernard Taylor focused on the road ahead.

"Anything’s fine?" Avery had been craving hot pot recently, but had no one to go with, and going alone felt somewhat foolish.

"I got it," Bernard Taylor nodded, didn’t wait for Avery to respond, and drove straight to the largest Hot Pot Restaurant in the city. Asking him this way, she must be craving hot pot.

Arriving at the entrance of the Hot Pot Restaurant, Avery’s expression was one of surprise. She hadn’t even mentioned it, and yet he had brought her here; she did want hot pot, however, something like skewers would have been fine too.

But, having had skewers just last night, naturally, she was in the mood for hot pot today.

"You..." Avery was about to ask how he knew she wanted hot pot when Bernard Taylor said, "Seeing that little greedy cat look on your face, I knew what you were thinking."

Avery was very straightforward, with her thoughts clearly expressed on the outside, so guessing her mind was not difficult at all.

"Tsk," Avery turned her head away discontentedly.

Bernard Taylor looked at her and laughed.

In the past few months abroad, his days were monotonous and dull, filled with work, business, and social engagements. The happiest moments of his days were when he lay in bed and, before falling asleep, reminisced about the time Avery was his nurse, that girl, seemingly boundless with energy.
