Chapter 898: 001 Long time no see
Avery Graham never knew that Carolline Ruiz could be such a gossip.
As Carolline Ruiz’s bridesmaid, dealing with such a grand wedding was not an easy task for her, you know? Yet, Carolline Ruiz, ever the bride, not only lacked sympathy but even went out of her way to bother her by saying that Bernard Taylor would be returning today.
Bernard Taylor was a friend of Bryan Hawkins, and it was only natural for him to come back for the wedding. Was there really a need for her to go out of her way to tell Avery? Besides, there was absolutely no relationship between her and Bernard Taylor.
Now she realized that no matter how many times she told Carolline Ruiz that her relationship with Bernard Taylor wasn’t what she imagined, Carolline simply wouldn’t listen, or if she did, it wouldn’t register.
"Well, that’s good, another person bringing a generous gift," Avery thought. Bernard Taylor’s family was wealthy, which she was aware of. She believed that Bernard Taylor shouldn’t have given up his family business to become a doctor, even though he turned out to be quite talented at it.
"..." Carolline Ruiz was speechless and too lazy to talk more since she really didn’t have much time today, and sure enough, their conversation was cut short when someone else came in.
And so Avery left.
The wedding wasn’t over yet, and her role as a bridesmaid continued. While others might only spend half a day as a bridesmaid, for Carolline Ruiz, the duty lasted the entire day.
Only in the afternoon did she find some time to chat with Michael Auclair. But their talk didn’t last long before she had to prepare for the evening’s events.
Avery now realized that the bridesmaid "money" given by Bryan Hawkins was damn hard to earn. But since she loved money, she had to make the effort, intending to use her own capabilities to buy her parents a bigger house.
After all, Avery’s mother always said that a capable woman could earn a lot of money and didn’t necessarily need a man, whereas a woman without capabilities should just marry honestly.
So, Avery indeed wanted to be a woman with abilities, earning lots of money for her family.
Having been with Michael Auclair for a while, she truly never considered marriage, and Michael Auclair hadn’t pressured her about it either, which she found commendable. Thus, the occasional date, meal, or movie with him felt comfortable to her.
Maybe after dating a bit longer, things would naturally progress between them. However, her mother was pushing her to hurry up and snag Michael Auclair.
Avery had always had a rebellious streak, so the more urgently her mother urged, the less inclined she felt to rush. She couldn’t explain this penchant for resistance, but it seemed to have been there since childhood, always doing the opposite of her mother’s wishes.
Even though she knew that her mother’s advice was for her own good, she just couldn’t accept her mother’s method of speaking and acting—too forceful, placing too much pressure on her.
As a result, even though they lived in the same city, she preferred not to stay at home but rather rent a place to live independently.
Living apart from her mother improved their relationship; being together every day only led to arguments.
During the evening toast, Avery didn’t encounter Bernard Taylor, for which she was grateful. After the event, she changed back into her own clothes and, having eaten her fill with Michael Auclair, they were about to head home together when he received a call from his company to work overtime. Michael Auclair apologetically informed her that he couldn’t take her home, but Avery graciously said it was fine, confident that Carolline and her family would have arranged a driver.
After Michael Auclair left, Avery played with Mia Parker and the others for a while, then snatched some "money" and watched the stunning fireworks show, absolutely in awe.
These rich people really knew how to burn through cash; she’d never seen anyone use so many beautiful fireworks for a wedding before.
As she was engrossed in watching, the people around Avery dispersed, each searching for the best vantage point to view the fireworks, leaving her gazing up naively at the display.
It was at this moment that Bernard Taylor approached. He had been watching Avery all along; she looked really beautiful in her bridesmaid dress today. However, he hadn’t come to speak with her because every time she had a moment, she had spent it with Michael Auclair.
It seemed their relationship was progressing smoothly, so he chose not to disturb them.
But when he was about to leave, he unexpectedly saw Avery alone. At that moment, he changed his direction and walked towards her.
