Chapter 881: 016 Belated Repentance
Feeling the change in her four children was on the day Ryan Parker and the two others were about to take a flight to pick up Celia Wade. All four of them unexpectedly showed up at the airport, with Zoey Parker holding flowers in her hands.
"Dad, Auntie, Ryan, we’ll wait for you to come back. If there’s anything that needs to be done here, Auntie, just give me a call," Zoey Parker stepped forward, speaking on behalf of Big Brother and her two younger brothers.
"Alright, thank you, Zoey. There isn’t much left to prepare here. It’s you— I saw the news the other day, Jett Auclair he..." Seeing Zoey Parker being friendly to her, Ellie Wilton spoke too quickly and let something slip. When she realized it, she looked at Zoey Parker apologetically, "Zoey, I’m sorry, Auntie didn’t mean to."
"You didn’t say anything wrong. You gave that Jett Auclair fellow two sons and a daughter, and yet is this how he goes around philandering? It was your own bad judgement at the start—you can’t blame anyone else," Marcus Parker wouldn’t allow Ellie Wilton to apologize to his daughter. What was said was true, so there was nothing to be sorry for.
Can one really blame anyone else for their daughter’s poor choice in men?
"..." Zoey Parker didn’t know what to say. Who could she blame when she was taken in by Jett Auclair’s sweet words at such a young age? Only now did she realize that Jett Auclair was a bona fide scoundrel who had no talent for making money but was all too skilled at spending it.
If it weren’t for her annual dividends from the Parker Family and the financial investments her friends helped her with, she feared that life for their family of five under the Auclair roof would have been difficult.
Now that Jett Auclair was treating her this way, she had come back to her parents’ home, and that deadbeat man hadn’t even bothered to come and see her, let alone take her back.
Initially, her father didn’t like Jett Auclair very much and had bluntly told her that the man was nothing but a freeloader. She still remembered her father holding her in his arms and saying more than once, "Zoey, if only you had been born a boy."
It was only now that she had begun to understand—if she were a boy, perhaps Ryan Parker wouldn’t have had to deal with this mess today.
"Don’t say that about Zoey," Ellie Wilton couldn’t stand to hear Marcus Parker talk about Zoey Parker that way. "Zoey, sometimes you can’t indulge a man too much, you know? Especially when it comes to matters of right and wrong. Otherwise, he’ll take advantage again and again. Do you understand?"
As an elder advising Zoey Parker, Ellie Wilton considered herself fortunate; she had loved only one man, Marcus Parker, in her lifetime, and felt that her lifelong dedication had not been in vain.
But for Zoey Parker to have married someone like Jett Auclair really did seem unfair.
"Thank you, Auntie." Zoey Parker nodded, "I heard you like scented lilies, so I bought a bouquet of them for you. I hope you can forgive our past behavior. Before, it was Big Brother and I who were thoughtless."
"No, you were both very thoughtful; don’t speak like that. I gladly accept the flowers. We won’t be long, and once Celia returns, let’s all have a meal together as a family. What do you say?" Ellie Wilton was overjoyed. She hadn’t expected the four children to accept her and Ryan this quickly.
Although Jack Parker and Oscar Parker had previously shown no animosity towards their mother and sister, they hadn’t been very close either. But now, even though Zoey Parker was speaking for all four, the others stood not far away, smiling at them.
Without any complicated thoughts, she simply believed that they were showing goodwill toward them. She thought the day she had never expected to arrive in her lifetime had finally come.
She smiled and accepted the flowers.
But Ryan Parker’s thoughts weren’t as simple as his mother’s. This was the first time he had met Jack Parker and Oscar Parker, and although he knew a little about them—Jack being a photographer who loved traveling to take pictures, and Oscar a painter who made portraits for people—he advocated for their lifestyle as they were satisfied with the dividends from the Parker Family and pursued their dreams.
Therefore, he quite promoted their way of living.
But Zoey Parker and Alexander Parker were different. They had been reluctant to make peace with them and had even caused trouble for Ellie Wilton multiple times. How had their attitude suddenly changed 180 degrees?
Could there really be no ulterior motive?
"Alright, Auntie. When you come back, just give us a call. We’ll handle the rest," said Zoey Parker, nodding and smiling more sincerely than before.
