Chapter 88 - 88 88 A Night Away from Home

Chapter 88: Chapter 88: A Night Away from Home Chapter 88: Chapter 88: A Night Away from Home Carolline quickly shook her head, claiming she wasn’t that delicate. She recalled her father mentioning that, when she was just one year old, she was already able to eat with a spoon on her own, albeit messily.

Emily Hill thought that was impressive, so from then on, she stopped feeding Carolline altogether, allowing her to practice on her own.

Carolline practically snatched the spoon from Bryan Hawkins’ hand in front of her, quickly scooping up a spoonful of food and shoving it into her mouth. Bryan didn’t have a chance to warn her, and Carolline immediately winced as she burned herself, curling up her tongue in pain.

“What’s the rush? I wanted to tell you it was hot, but I couldn’t.” Bryan softly scolded her, taking the spoon from her hands and stirring the food in the bowl, blowing on it to cool it down.

Carolline stared at Bryan’s actions, feeling as if a chord in her heart had suddenly snapped, completely broken.

Once it was cooled down, Bryan handed the seafood porridge back to her. “Drink the porridge first to fill your stomach. The chef is preparing the main course, so you can enjoy a proper meal later.”

Carolline nodded. At this point, she was truly hungry. The seafood porridge wasn’t a big serving, so it didn’t take her long to finish it.

“What time is it now?” The room wasn’t dark, but Carolline could sense that it was probably quite late.

“It’s 10:30 pm. You can stay here overnight, and I’ll take you to work in the morning?” Bryan asked tentatively.

“Mhm.” Carolline nodded. In reality, she didn’t have to work the next day, but she still needed to go home.

For now, she had no idea how to tell her parents over the phone that she wouldn’t be coming home tonight.

After hesitating for a while, Carolline decided not to call and left her cellphone off.

“Do you need to call your parents and let them know?” Bryan knew Carolline was well-behaved, so he reminded her.

“No need,” Carolline shook her head and declined. If she called home now, Emily Hill would definitely pester her with questions, and she didn’t want to face her parents until she came up with an excuse.

“Alright,” Bryan nodded, picking up the empty bowl and plate. “Freshen up, change your clothes, and come down to eat some more afterward.”

“Understood,” Carolline nodded.

Carolline realized that everything they had done was quite exhausting, and even after finishing the seafood porridge, she still didn’t feel full.

This was the first time Carolline had eaten such a filling meal so late at night. Despite being a true food lover with no resistance to delicious meals, as medical staff, she knew some healthy lifestyle habits. Today was her first time living such an unhealthy life.

The two of them ate without speaking.

After dinner, knowing Carolline had to work the next day, Bryan didn’t make any other suggestions. “Watch some TV, then go back to your room to sleep. Don’t wait for me; I have to handle some things in the study later.”

“Alright,” Carolline nodded, feeling incredibly disappointed.

Insensitive Bryan obviously didn’t notice her disappointment. He suggested that Carolline go back to her room to sleep because he didn’t want her to feel embarrassed about the events of the afternoon.

His plan was to give her some personal space, but what he didn’t know was that women didn’t think like that. Regardless of how considerate Carolline was, she was a normal woman.

Carolline believed in supporting Bryan unconditionally, regardless of what he did, even if it meant sacrificing herself.

After the servant cleared the table, they went to their rooms to rest. Carolline went back to her room, watched some TV for a while, and noticed the bedsheets had been replaced. Perhaps, due to the significant energy loss she experienced, once her stomach started digesting the food, she lay down and quickly fell asleep.

Bryan returned to the room at 3 am. He didn’t actually have any work; he just wanted to give Carolline more privacy. Once she was asleep, he gently joined her in bed, pulling her close to him from behind, and also quickly drifted off to sleep, feeling incredibly comfortable.

The next day, Carolline woke up to find an empty space beside her and assumed Bryan hadn’t returned to the room to sleep.

She didn’t dwell on it. Instead, her concern shifted to how she would face her parents’ questions after spending the night away from home without a single call or message. Emily Hill might be frantic by now.

Although this wasn’t her first time, last time, Emily Hill wasn’t aware of it. This time, in Emily’s eyes, it was Carolline’s first time not returning home for the night. She could only imagine what Emily might be thinking.

Thinking about this, Carolline started to regret not calling her parents last night out of sheer stubbornness. She felt she should have called them, even if it meant Emily Hill would insist on her returning home in the middle of the night.

People tend to only feel regret after the fact, realizing their decisions were wrong.

Bryan knocked and entered the room, reminding Carolline that time was running short. She quickly washed up, and they headed to the dining room to have breakfast together.

“I turned your cellphone on for you.” As Carolline took her last spoonful of porridge, Bryan told her nonchalantly after he had finished eating and wiped his mouth.

Carolline’s mouthful of porridge got caught in her throat, neither going up nor down.
