Chapter 718: Chapter 718: Mia Parker Takes Action (8)
Since she’s about to leave for half a month, she’d definitely miss it if she didn’t eat tonight.
"Of course, honey, I want to have hot pot too. As promised, I must have it once before giving birth, so might as well do it today." Megan Clifton just appeared out of nowhere and no one knew when she arrived, but as soon as she entered, she made her stance clear.
"..." Andy Aguirre wanted to refuse. He had previously promised Megan Clifton to let her have hot pot once before giving birth, but he thought she’d likely forget about it if he kept stalling.
But now, with Mia Parker mentioning it, he probably couldn’t stall any longer.
"It’s okay. Eating it once or twice occasionally won’t make a big difference. I ate it when I was carrying Axel too." Carolline Ruiz joined the persuasion team, mainly because Megan Clifton was signaling her, and she was really worried that Megan Clifton’s big eyes would blink her away.
"Since it’s for Mia Parker’s farewell, we should let her choose whatever she wants to eat. Aren’t you acting as her brother? How can you not be more laid-back?" Megan Clifton glared at her husband. With Carolline Ruiz speaking up and this man still not giving in, she had to show her strong side.
"Fine, hot pot it is." Andy Aguirre gritted his teeth and agreed. At worst, he would bear the pressure from his mother.
Megan Clifton was the happiest. Mia Parker took the things she’d bought to her parents’ house, and when she told them she was going to have dinner with Carolline Ruiz and Andy Aguirre, they didn’t object. After all, since growing up, their daughter hadn’t spent much time around them; she was very independent.
After work, Andy Aguirre called his mother early to inform her. Bryan Hawkins parked the car, and with Axel came to join the meal as well.
When Mia Parker saw Axel, she immediately stuck to the handsome little guy, and Carolline Ruiz shook her head helplessly.
Axel obediently greeted people, and after plenty of intimacy with Mia Parker, she finally remembered something else, "Carolline, what about the information you prepared for me?"
"Well, one is Gavin Campbell, a surgeon in our hospital who is very skilled in clinical operations. The other is a surgical nurse named Charlotte Clark. She’s competent at work, but I suggest you don’t interview her." Carolline was worried that Mia—if she met Charlotte and identified herself as Carolline’s friend—would likely be ignored by Charlotte.
"Charlotte Clark? Is she the one who gossiped about you before?" So it seemed that Charlotte Clark’s gossip skills were quite powerful since Mia Parker had heard about it.
"It’s all in the past, let’s not talk about it." Carolline didn’t want to bring up past grievances.
"You sure have a big heart." Mia Parker and Megan Clifton said in unison.
"Anyway, I don’t like that woman. Mia, you really shouldn’t interview her." Megan Clifton added.
"Okay, I don’t want to interview her either." Mia Parker nodded. Anyone who bullied her friends was her enemy. As for that kind of woman, who would want to interview her anyway? Let her remain obscure.
The two women echoed each other like they’d rehearsed it, and Carolline Ruiz couldn’t be bothered with them anymore, so she called Axel and Bryan Hawkins to help her pick up the dishes.
Seeing them go for the dishes, Megan Clifton quickly listed her favorite dishes and asked Carolline to help her, while Ben Parker consciously went to get Mia Parker’s food without being asked.
The two women immediately resumed their gossiping mode.
In the end, Andy Aguirre had to get up and season the food, leaving the two women at the table chattering away.
Carolline brought a lot of fruits and desserts to the table, and Megan Clifton and Mia Parker started grabbing them first. Axel was dumbfounded and stood up to compete with the two women.
A scene featuring two grown women and a child quarreling over food, taking turns grabbing bites, was truly comical.
Before they even began eating, Andy Aguirre toasted with soft drinks instead of alcohol and wished Mia Parker and Ben Parker a smooth journey, hoping they’d return soon.
"I’ll talk to Gavin Campbell, and he’ll help you with the sterilization and protection measures when it’s time to go." Andy Aguirre promised.
"I heard that the trip to Africa is really dangerous. Some doctors and nurses from other countries have caught the local plague and couldn’t be saved," Mia Parker shared the news she’d learned.
In fact, there have been reports of deaths and some data, but it was suppressed by the Z Country government. Otherwise, nobody would go this time.
But with good protective measures, it’s not as dangerous as everyone thinks. After all, the number of deaths in recent years has been decreasing. It’s certainly safer than being in a volatile country.
"Anyway, it’s always good to be careful." Carolline added, she was also quite worried. That’s why she and Andy Aguirre were so surprised when Gavin Campbell volunteered to go in the first place.
That’s why people are selfish—she didn’t have the same emotions about the prospect of Charlotte Clark leaving.
"Yes, I know. We’re just interviewing doctors and nurses, and taking pictures of the locals as a human-interest piece. We won’t have close contact with the pathogens. We are much safer than you medical staff." Mia Parker nodded.
It should have been just Mia going to Africa, but when she volunteered, Ben Parker insisted on going as well. The station director had no choice but to agree.
Mia Parker wanted to go to Africa to see the world and do what little she could to help. She believed that adversity could polish a person’s character, so she was determined to go through this challenging experience.
Soon, the conversation at the dinner table turned to Bryan Hawkins and Carolline Ruiz’s upcoming wedding. With National Day approaching and waiting just two more months, it would be their big day.
Their wedding was a significant event that everyone in their circle, and likely the entire city, was looking forward to. So there was plenty to discuss on that topic.
By that time, Megan Clifton’s belly would be even bigger. She complained, "I don’t know what on earth you were thinking. Wouldn’t a National Day wedding be perfect?"
"William Hawkins’s wedding anniversary is around that time. Besides, his boy-girl twins might also arrive on that day." Bryan Hawkins didn’t want to choose the same day as his cousin’s celebration.
In his opinion, although William Hawkins kept asserting that Madelyn Lincoln was carrying boy-girl twins, Bryan Hawkins did not believe it. Anyway, before the child is born, he doesn’t believe there’s necessarily a daughter.
William Hawkins wouldn’t be as lucky as him. His second child with Carolline Ruiz would definitely be a princess.
"Didn’t they say they are having boy-girl twins?" Carolline Ruiz asked in return. Madelyn Lincoln said so, and Felicia Miller, a famous doctor in the Gynecology Department, had also confirmed it. She shouldn’t be wrong, right?
"They’re just fooling you, and you believe it." Bryan Hawkins was stubborn.
Carolline Ruiz: "..."
