They spent some time in the nurse’s room, waiting for her to prepare some chicken soup and adjust the temperature. Only then did they follow her into the ward.

As soon as they opened the door, they saw Avery Saunders grabbing Jordy Wade’s hand and wiping away tears, looking like she couldn’t believe her eyes. But no matter how heartbroken she cried, the person lying on the bed remained motionless.

"It’s time to feed the patient," the nurse said, interrupting Avery Saunders’ emotional display.

Avery’s parents pushed her aside, and the three of them watched as the nurse fed Jordy Wade through a tube.

Seeing Avery Saunders covering her mouth with an unbearable expression, Celia Wade recalled how she felt when she first saw Jordy Wade being fed in this way, and her heart ached.
