Chapter 584: Chapter 584: Shen’s Mother Kneels Down (5)

She still remembered Cole Duncan once saying that Mrs. Duncan’s former residence was even smaller and shabbier than their old house. It seems that people tend to forget their past once they become wealthy.

The woman who once said she would never return to this place was back.

Daisy Willow sighed. Since the woman had come, Daisy couldn’t avoid her forever. Besides, she couldn’t avoid Mrs. Duncan the second time, and if she caused a scene at home, it would be even worse.

Daisy changed into her outdoor clothes, and her mother, who was watching TV outside, asked her, "Felicia, are you going out?"

"Yes, Mom, Megan Clark is looking for me. I’ll be back in a moment." Daisy used her former classmate’s name to avoid arousing suspicion, and her mother agreed without question.

Daisy left the house and went straight to the Tea House, not far from their home. So less than ten minutes after Mrs. Duncan’s phone call, Daisy appeared before her.

Mrs. Duncan now looked completely different from her previous self - her face was gaunt, and her expression looked haggard. In just a short time, she seemed to have aged by ten years.

"Mrs. Duncan." Daisy approached her, not calling her Auntie, but respectfully addressing her as Mrs. Duncan. Daisy knew that was how Mrs. Duncan preferred to be addressed, and no matter how hard she tried, Daisy had never been able to win the woman’s favor before.

Now, she didn’t want to seek her favor either.

"Daisy, you’re here? Sit, sit—" Mrs. Duncan looked at Daisy and regretted her past actions more than ever. Her son and neighbors had told her that Daisy was a good daughter-in-law, but she never appreciated that until now. Daisy truly was the best daughter-in-law one could ask for.

It was only when Mrs. Duncan compared Daisy to someone like Jane Auclair that she truly understood Daisy’s worth.

Jane had demanded that the Duncans, who are already down on their luck, pay her additional compensation for youth loss, mental distress, medical expenses, lost income, insurance, beauty fees, etc. In total, she wanted 20 million dollars from them.

This would completely ruin the Duncan family. Mrs. Duncan couldn’t believe she once failed to see how Jane’s kindness masked her calculating schemes.

Her thoughts turned to all the good things Daisy had done for the family. Daisy had always made sure that everything was in order by the time Mrs. Duncan returned home from shopping or playing mahjong. Daisy looked after the children, and Cole never had to worry about household affairs, resulting in the family business and finances growing stronger.

Despite all this, Mrs. Duncan had insisted that Cole not treat Daisy too kindly. Looking back, she realized how unreasonable she had been, yet Daisy never complained and continued to be good to her.

Instead, Mrs. Duncan constantly made life difficult for Daisy simply because after giving birth to Elena, she couldn’t provide the Duncan family with a grandson. She had been determined to drive Daisy from the family and replace her with a woman who could bear a son.

And now, the Duncan family was in dire straits. Cole had said this was divine retribution for their cruel treatment of such a kind woman as Daisy.

Previously, she never thought that she had made a mistake. But now, she had no choice but to accept it.

Daisy sat down, and Mrs. Duncan personally poured her a cup of tea and pushed it in front of her. Daisy was somewhat taken aback, as she had interacted with Mrs. Duncan many times before, and the woman was known for being an excellent actress. Daisy wasn’t quite ready to accept Mrs. Duncan’s sudden olive branch.
