Chapter 547: Chapter 547: Defy the Battle (1)

At 5:30 in the morning, before the 5:40 alarm even went off, Elena was already awake.

As soon as she woke up, she turned to her mom lying next to her, "Mom, wake up. Or we’ll be late to see Uncle Simon off."

"..." Daisy was still groggy, as she rarely woke up so early, even during those two years at the Duncan family. She usually slept until 6:30. But since her daughter was already awake, she had no choice but to open her eyes and reply, "Okay."

They quickly got ready, grabbed some fresh milk and bread from the refrigerator to eat on the road, and the mother-daughter duo headed out.

They took a cab directly to the airport.

When they arrived at the airport, it was not even 6:20. Elena had arranged to meet Simon at 7:00 the night before, so she was confident that they wouldn’t miss him.

She held her painting in both hands. Simon had given her a Barbie doll, so she painted a picture for him, depicting the scene of him giving her the doll. Elena had a natural talent for drawing, and her lifelike painting made her quite satisfied with her work.

Of course, she had painted several versions before she finally found the perfect one to give to Simon. Elena was overjoyed.

At 6:40, Simon and Irene arrived. Daisy ushered Elena forward to greet them. Elena sweetly called out, "Uncle Simon, Auntie Irene, hi."

"Hi, Elena." Irene smiled and greeted Elena, then nodded to Daisy, and said to Simon, "I’ll go exchange the tickets, you guys chat."

"..." Daisy wanted to say something, but Irene walked away so quickly that she hadn’t even had a chance to open her mouth. Irene was already far away.

Elena took Simon’s hand directly, "Uncle Simon, this is a gift from me – a painting. Can you wait until you’re on the plane before you look at it, please?"

"...Okay." Simon looked into Elena’s pleading eyes and smiled. It was rare to see such innocence and purity in a young girl who had experienced her parents’ divorce.

He had played a part in her parents’ separation, but Elena held no grudge against him and treated him kindly. It was indeed remarkable. Compared to his own spoiled princess at home, Elena was simply incomparable.

"Miss Daisy, you’ve done a great job raising Elena." Simon admitted that he had no skills in educating children. Ever since Stella and Liam were born, it seemed like he hadn’t taken much of his fatherly responsibilities.

"Thank you. I’m sure your children are outstanding too," Daisy sincerely replied. Elena’s good behavior was not entirely due to her upbringing – she was naturally sensitive and matured early.

Daisy felt a bit sorry for her. Compared to other children her age, Elena seemed much more mature, and she didn’t seem to have the same happiness and innocence as other children. Daisy’s heart ached for her daughter.

"..." Simon couldn’t agree, as his son was naughty and his daughter spoiled – a true pampered young lady.

"Elena, Uncle Simon and Auntie Irene are leaving. Come on, let’s say goodbye to Uncle Simon." Daisy checked the time on her wristwatch and told Elena.

"Goodbye, Uncle Simon. Will you come to see me again?" Elena looked longingly at Simon, as if there were a predestined bond between them that she couldn’t explain.

"Elena, Uncle Simon..." Daisy was a bit embarrassed. She had learned from Carolline that Simon had family issues and a seriously ill grandfather who needed his care. He might even give up his career as a lawyer for his grandfather’s sake.

"Of course, I will," Simon nodded confidently. Then, he squatted down and kissed Elena’s cheek, "Listen to your mom. Uncle Simon will come to see you soon, and I’ll bring Stella and Liam along, okay?"
