"...Yes, good girl." Bryan Hawkins was on cloud nine upon hearing Carolline Ruiz’s confession of love. He leaned down to give her another passionate kiss, not stopping until Henry Ruiz called them for dinner.

"Are you really on night shift tonight?" Bryan missed Celia dearly when she wasn’t around, his body felt like it was on fire.

"Yes, my schedule was adjusted the day before yesterday. I didn’t tell you in advance because there have been some issues at home and they’ve caused a delay. Other colleagues cover her shifts, but there’s no one for tonight’s shift. As head nurse, I naturally have to cover it," Celia explained. After the night shift, she would have the next day off.

"Oh," Bryan responded, feeling a bit disappointed. Knowing that Carolline wasn’t just saying this to appease him, he accepted it.

Carolline moved closer and kissed him for a while, "Don’t fret, I’ll make it up to you tomorrow."

However, neither Carolline nor Bryan could have anticipated that her ’special friend’ would arrive before the end of her night shift. Even the universe seemed to be conspiring against them, leaving Carolline helpless but to shake her head in resignation.

Bryan kept a straight face all the time, feeling as though even the heavens were playing games with him.

The next day, Carolline slept all morning. Due to the arrival of her ’special friend’, she had to adopt a special diet, avoiding cold and spicy food. At lunch, Bryan had someone prepare chicken soup and a few light dishes at their home. The aroma of the meal woke Carolline, and after getting ready, she enjoyed her lunch heartily.

"You’re not going to work today either?" Carolline asked while eating, glancing at the calendar on the table. It wasn’t the weekend, so Bryan should be at work, she thought.

Can he really afford to neglect work like this? Carolline felt guilty, as if she was the reason behind his regular absences.

"I went in the morning, came back at half past eleven. If you’ve slept enough, how about accompanying me to work in the afternoon?" Bryan said as he passed her a bowl of chicken soup, "Drink more soup, it will replenish your energy."

"Alright," Carolline nodded, taking a sip of the soup. She knew that the soup was made by a cook brought in by Bryan, it couldn’t possibly be his handiwork. If Bryan tried to cook alone, the result would likely be as disastrous as the time Celia Wade tried making chicken soup in the kitchen.

Carolline hadn’t visited Hawkins Family business before, but she decided not to decline the invitation that day. After all, Bryan had accompanied her to work many times. If he didn’t mind her presence in his office potentially upsetting his routine, she could go along.

"Honey, I love you." Bryan was pleasantly surprised that Carolline agreed so readily, and this filled him with joy.

This would allow his staff to have a good look at their future lady boss and stop them from spreading baseless rumors, upsetting him and risking a cut in their salaries.

Bryan Hawkins was never one to let go of a grudge easily, he was not as tolerant as his staff members imagined him to be.

Carolline ate two bowls of rice, drank three bowls of soup, and consumed several dishes. She was so full by the end that she felt like she might throw up. After the meal, Carolline washed dishes and then walked around the living room a few times to relieve her feeling of fullness.

At half past one, Bryan drove his wife to the company.

Upon arriving at the company’s doorstep, Carolline was greeted with great respect by the front desk staff of the Hawkins Family business. She was initially a bit nervous, but upon seeing their looks, she felt even more puzzled.

What Carolline didn’t know was that in the morning, Bryan had asked Xavier Estrada to distribute candy to everyone as a celebration treat. Although he didn’t distribute wedding invitations, the boxes of candy were easily available. Xavier informed everyone that the wife of their boss would be visiting the office in the afternoon to inspect their work. He advised everyone to put their best foot forward and to stop spreading baseless rumors like they did the day before.
