Chapter 455: Chapter 455: Leaving a Voice Without a Trace (7)
He just wanted to give her flowers. Carolline Ruiz held the flowers all the way, a smile beaming all over her face.
Bryan Hawkins drove the car, and a glance at Carolline’s smile brought him contentment. It seemed that women truly adored flowers. From now on, he should give his wife flowers more often, any kind of flowers.
At the intersection, Bryan changed his mind. Carolline must be tired from a day of work, so instead of turning right towards the supermarket as originally intended, he took a left turn towards the western restaurant.
"Let’s have western food tonight, we’ll go home after the meal," Bryan said.
"Oh." Carolline didn’t ask further, after all, she was in a romantic mood at the moment.
When they arrived at the western restaurant, they were informed by the waiter that the restaurant had been booked by someone else that day. Bryan had hoped for the pleasant environment of this restaurant to provide an impromptu romantic candlelight dinner. But now, they were being turned away due to the booking.
"Then let’s go." Carolline didn’t seem disappointed, especially considering the waiter’s reverence towards Bryan Hawkins, who kept apologizing and even called the General Manager to apologize
Bryan wasn’t a bully, besides, he didn’t make a reservation beforehand, and the decision to eat out was spontaneous, it wasn’t anyone’s fault.
"We can try another place, it may be a little lower-end, but they should be able to arrange a candlelight dinner," Bryan suggested to Carolline.
"..." Carolline blushed, realizing that Bryan had planned a candlelight dinner all along.
As Phoebe Miller got out of the car, she saw Bryan and Carolline hand in hand in front of the western restaurant. At that moment, she wasn’t sure what she was feeling. She had her own dreams and aspirations, but Bryan was the only man she had ever loved in her life. Their romance was a platonic love, this man, although not physically present, had taken her heart.
She never knew that Bryan could show such tenderness toward other women aside from herself. She found herself envying the woman who was now holding his hand and leaning into him.
For a moment, Phoebe felt a warmth in her eyes, and she got back in the car as soon as she got out, fleeing in a kind of panic. Yes, she was afraid of being seen by Bryan. They had both been anticipating their reunion after years of living separate lives, thinking that by chance, they might meet again one day.
Perhaps they were still in the prime of their lives, perhaps by the time they met again, they would be old and wrinkled, and they might still be able to spend the rest of their lives hand in hand.
But just now, she felt that it was impossible, at least Bryan didn’t belong to her anymore.
When Bryan held a press conference years ago, saying the most profound love he’d ever felt in his life was for her, she had felt very happy and thrilled. She thought that even if she used all of her time now to do something more meaningful than love, she would still have a reliable backbone behind her, someone who would never leave her.
Even if Bryan got married and had children, it wouldn’t affect their feelings for each other.
But at this moment, she could no longer deceive herself. Perhaps time really can change a person. At least, at this moment, she clearly realized that Bryan would no longer be hers.
Bryan and Carolline didn’t notice this little interlude. They got into the car and drove off. Phoebe watched as they drove away. The affection and tenderness once familiar to her was clear in Bryan’s eyes.
