Chapter 322: Chapter 322: Another Misfortune (2)

For a moment, neither of them could sleep, feeling somewhat at a loss due to the sudden turn of events.

Carolline couldn’t tell how much time had passed, but it seemed like a long time when Bryan Hawkins suddenly turned over. Her heart leaped into her throat.

Then her hand was held gently in his palm, and Bryan whispered softly, "Wife..."

At that moment, Carolline felt a tingling sensation that spread throughout her entire body. She pursed her lips and let out a soft hum.

"I..." Receiving Carolline’s response, Bryan turned over and propped up his upper body, their eyes meeting.

In Bryan’s deep and intense gaze was a burning passion that Carolline, with her limited experience, found both familiar and somewhat alien. At this moment, she felt her heart trembling.

Still, she bravely responded. After all, they were remarried, and there was no reason to avoid such things. Plus, she knew that she had been neglecting him for the past few weeks. If he wanted it, she would definitely give it to him.

During these few weeks, she had actually been looking forward to this moment, but she never expected so many unforeseen events to occur.

"Is it okay now?" Bryan reached out to tuck her hair behind her ear and gently patted her head. He had let things go during this time simply to give her more space.

"...Yes." Carolline did not expect him to ask for her opinion so carefully. Once upon a time, she had been the cautious one in their relationship. So she could assume that he cared for her, right? At least, he was paying attention to her feelings.

After Carolline agreed, she closed her eyes. Bryan’s gaze was so intense, it almost set her ablaze. She didn’t dare to look straight into his eyes and felt somewhat scared about what was going to happen next. After all, it had been years since she had last been intimate with someone.

The pain from her first time was still etched into her memory. She had heard that after a few years without experiencing such intimacy, it would hurt once more when it happened again.

Bryan leaned down, and just as their lips were about to meet, a cell phone rang in the room. Bryan cursed under his breath, prepared to ignore it and continue, but the ringing persisted.

Carolline, drowsy and slightly behind Bryan, finally heard her phone ringing. It was so late that only one possibility crossed her mind - an emergency at the hospital.

"I’m sorry," Carolline pushed him away and adjusted her slightly disheveled pajamas. "It’s a call from the hospital. I need to take it."

"..." Bryan sighed, knowing that this wasn’t just a simple call. It must have been a major issue at the hospital for them to call someone who was off-duty.

Carolline picked up the phone, and the dean of their hospital was on the line. "Carolline, I’m sorry to bother you, but we just received two car accident patients who are in critical condition. Due to the special nature of their identities, I need you to come in."

"...Alright, I understand, Dean. I’ll be there right away." Carolline was a reasonable person, realizing that when the Dean mentioned "special identities," he meant high-ranking individuals in society. The doctors and nurses needed to be of the highest caliber in such situations, and she was grateful to be considered in that regard.

"Thank you for understanding." The dean was courteous to her, especially considering the recent rumors about her and Bryan causing a stir at the hospital.

"It’s fine," Carolline replied. After hanging up, she turned to see Bryan already picking out clothes from the wardrobe. "It’s so late. I’ll just go back by myself."
