Chapter 302: Chapter 302: Craving Meat (8)

She was somewhat unsure of what to do. She would prepare enough sanitary products for a week whenever her best friend arrived.

"Oh." Bryan Hawkins responded in a somewhat listless manner. It was already Saturday, and tomorrow would be Sunday. He has to pick Axel up in the afternoon and the little boy would stick to Carolline Ruiz, wanting to sleep with her once he’s back.

Axel would soon be on summer vacation. Bryan Hawkins had promised to take him out to play. If Axel wanted some meat, Bryan Hawkins wondered how long he would have to wait. He felt quite miserable. He felt like he was being punished by destiny.

Carolline Ruiz pretended she didn’t notice a thing. What could she do? Her menstrual cycle hadn’t been the same as before. It was a matter of a woman’s physical health. She was genuinely concerned that there might be something wrong with her body. Axel was still so young and she deeply valued her health. Hence, she would resist going along with Bryan Hawkins’ desires during her menstrual cycle regardless of how much he wanted her.

So, they decided to sleep in separate beds just like the night before. This way, he wouldn’t be uncomfortable.

The elevator ascended straight to the tenth floor. While entering the password, Carolline Ruiz’s mobile rang as she was changing her shoes. She had been worried about Avery Graham and Bernard Taylor, afraid that they would get themselves into some trouble. She hastily took her mobile out of her bag. Surprisingly, it was not Avery who called, but Celia Wade.

"Hello, Celia?" Carolline Ruiz quickly answered the call. She could not hear anything from the other side of the line except an occasional faint sob. This caused a pang in Carolline Ruiz’s heart. "What happened, Celia? Say something, please, don’t make me worry," she asked, anxiously.

Bryan Hawkins watched Carolline Ruiz, her face full of anxiety. He reached out to hold her arm, advising her to not worry and take things slowly.

"I’m sorry, Carolline, I dialed the wrong number," Celia Wade suddenly said and hung up before Carolline could ask more.

Carolline was even more unnerved at this moment. She felt Celia was very fragile, delicate like a glass doll. Something must have happened to her today. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have made such a weird call.

"Let’s go out again." Carolline put on her outdoor shoes again and said, "I’m really worried about Celia. She lives alone. I’m afraid something might happen to her."

This was the truth. Moreover, Celia hadn’t been completely recovered before leaving on her business trip. After returning two days back, Carolline had suggested that she should go to the hospital for a check-up when she had the time, but Celia hadn’t found the time.

Afterwards, they had been occupied with their own work. Now, getting a call like this from Celia, Carolline felt that she wouldn’t be able to sleep unless she rushed over to check on Celia.

"Is it necessary? What did she say in the phone?" Bryan Hawkins was not heartless, but it was getting late, and Carolline had to work the next day.

"Yes, it’s necessary. If you don’t want to go, I’ll take a taxi," said Carolline, ready to go. Bryan Hawkins pulled her and said, "I didn’t say I wouldn’t go. I was just... never mind, let’s go."

Bryan Hawkins now understood that Carolline’s life was no longer only revolving around him. She had Axel and friends who she cared about. Earlier, when Carolline had revolved around only him, he had been too busy, even unable to spend much time with her.

He had failed to cherish Carolline’s precious feelings. What right did he have to complain now?

They went to the parking lot again and drove out. Celia lived not far from them so they arrived in about ten minutes. Seeing no lights in the building from downstairs, Carolline, who had the spare key, hurried towards the residential area.

At the entrance of the residential area, she bumped into a man. The man’s body was as hard as iron, hitting Carolline Ruiz so hard that she saw stars and was on the verge of tearing up from the pain.

"Are you okay? You really should be more careful." Bryan Hawkins quickly moved forward and drew Carolline Ruiz into his arms. He knew it was Carolline Ruiz’s fault, so he could not blame the man, though he still felt sympathy.

"Sorry, my wife..." Bryan Hawkins started to apologize on her behalf. When he looked at the man’s face he was surprised, "Jordy Wade, is that you? You’re back?"

Upon hearing Jordy Wade’s name, Carolline instantly forgot about her pain, lifted her head, and indeed, it was him. She could now understand, to some extent, why Celia was acting strange tonight.

Had these two seen each other?

"Big Brother Jordy, you finally returned," Carolline said excitedly, holding Jordy Wade’s hand tight. She really wanted to tell him about the plight Celia had been enduring for years. She truly wished Jordy Wade would stop hiding from Celia.

Celia needed him, they weren’t real siblings. So, even if they were together, there was nothing wrong about it. Even the law wouldn’t object to it. Additionally, there wasn’t any talk of deformed offspring, she simply couldn’t understand why Jordy’s father and mother could not be more open-minded.

In her memory, Jordy’s father and mother were reasonable people who had been living abroad for many years. Therefore, she wondered why they couldn’t tolerate two people with no blood relation being in love and accept them together.

Was it because they had lived together since childhood and were considered siblings by outsiders? For such so-called gossips, they deliberately separated a couple in love. Was this how it was supposed to be?

Just when Carolline was about to say something, Bryan Hawkins reached out once again, keeping Carolline from holding Jordy Wade’s hand. Bryan Hawkins had mentioned it in the car. He disliked his wife showing interest in other men. And now in the flicker of an eye, she was holding another man’s hand.

Even though this Jordy Wade was known to them and even though Carolline was holding him not out of romantic interest, Bryan was a narrow-minded man who cared and was jealous.

"Mr. Hawkins." Jordy Wade first addressed Bryan, "I will be here for a week. Let’s catch up some other time."

"Sure." Bryan Hawkins nodded.

"Carolline, since you came, go check on her. She got drunk in the pub tonight and almost... I leave her in your care. Thank you for looking out for her. Please give me some time. I will return soon." With that, Jordy Wade quickly turned around and disappeared into the night.

"Big Brother Jordy..." Carolline wanted to chase him, say a few words, but Jordy Wade was already far off.

"Stop calling him. Didn’t he say he will return soon? Let’s go, let’s go upstairs first," Bryan Hawkins guided Carolline,

Carolline knew that at such times, one needed to stay calm. At least Jordy Wade was still willing to come back and take care of Celia. For now, she would give him more time.
