Chapter 293: Chapter 293: You Are a Miracle (7)

For nearly half an hour, Avery Graham couldn’t manage to hail a single taxi. Some were taken by quicker passengers, while others had weird drivers, who used bizarre excuses to refuse her. Still, others seemed to be occupied but had forgotten to change their sign to off-duty.

Ten more minutes passed, and Avery was just about to give up when a black car pulled up in front of her. The window rolled down, revealing Bernard Taylor’s face.

Seeing him, Avery felt even more frustrated and turned to leave. Bernard, however, stopped her, "You probably won’t get a cab at this time. Do you want to be late for your dinner with Carolline Ruiz?"

Avery stopped in her tracks, not because she doubted her ability to hail a cab, but because she was wondering how Bernard knew about her date with Carolline. Had he gone crazy?

"How do you know about my appointment with Carolline?" Avery turned around, glaring at Bernard, wondering just how twisted he was.

She had already told him that she didn’t like men who appeared as flirtatious as he was, so why couldn’t he understand and stay away from her?

She still remembered how she reacted when Bernard first confessed his feelings for her; she had been so shocked that she laughed out of disbelief. Avery felt that someone like him should be receiving confessions from women or even men, but he had confessed to her instead.

It wasn’t due to her lack of self-confidence, but she had never imagined that someone like Bernard Taylor would actually be interested in her. Therefore, she thought that Bernard must be trying to make fun of her and seeking revenge for something.

So after Bernard’s earnest confessions had continued for a while, she decided to quit her job.

Now, several years had passed without any contact. She had returned to G City because she grew up here and had friends and family she couldn’t abandon. But she hadn’t expected to see Bernard Taylor again.

His pursuit wasn’t as aggressive as before, but his presence was like a thorn in her side, bothering her greatly.

"If you want to know, get in the car," Bernard said, opening the passenger door and slightly tilting his head.

The two stared each other down, with Avery stubbornly refusing to get in. Bernard, however, was confident she would. After a standoff of around ten seconds, Avery finally got in the car and closed the door.

"Alright, you can speak now," Avery said, annoyed.

Bernard locked the safety lock but didn’t start driving right away. It wouldn’t affect the traffic anyway. "Tell me, who was that man you were with last week?"

Bernard’s beautiful, clear eyes held a cold stare. Last week, under pressure from her mother, Avery had finally agreed to go on a blind date. Trouble had struck when she had encountered Bernard having dinner with his cousin. As it turned out, her blind date was friends with Bernard’s cousin, and the four of them had ended up sharing a table.

That night, she had felt extremely uncomfortable under Bernard’s murderous gaze and icy words. She hadn’t been able to figure out why she felt so bad.

When the dinner was over, she had gone home with her blind date and left for a business trip the next day. Returning home, she had straightened out her emotions and found out that her former colleague and friend, Carolline Ruiz, had married G City’s wealthiest man.
