Chapter 274: Chapter 274: Being a Good Dad (4)
Ah, she’s going crazy. As the saying goes, the quiet dog bites the hardest. Carolline, who’s usually so quiet, has managed to win over G City’s richest man. No wonder so many women have tried and failed to get Bryan Hawkins’ attention.
Carolline was busy in the kitchen, while Bryan Hawkins was watching TV in the living room. Although she wasn’t fond of him yet, Bryan felt that the scene was incredibly heartwarming: his wife was preparing dinner for him and their son in the kitchen, while he enjoyed the fruits of her labor in the living room. He didn’t dare to help her since he was a natural disaster in the kitchen and would only cause more trouble.
Carolline first prepared the porridge and then started washing the pork ribs she had bought earlier in the morning. Axel loved steamed pork ribs, and Carolline had bought the flour for this dish and was preparing it one or two times a week for him.
It was important to diversify his diet. Otherwise, Axel would eat the same thing every day. Under Carolline’s supervision, Axel’s eating habits were reasonable, and he didn’t get sick often.
Some children get sick at least four times a year, but Axel was different. He rarely caught a cold, mostly because he was well-cared for. Children need proper care, after all.
When Axel occasionally suffered a minor cold, Carolline didn’t give him medicine right away. She would start by hydrating him and only resort to medication if it became necessary.
After work, Henry Ruiz went to the kindergarten to pick up his grandson and wife. Carolline thought they were coming home a bit late and couldn’t understand her parents’ mentality.
Could it be that she’d stayed at home for so long they were eager to chase her out? Was that why Bryan Hawkins had come back and her parents insisted on her leaving with him right away?
When the three of them returned home, Axel called out "mom" and immediately spotted Bryan in the living room. He ran over excitedly, "Dad, you’re here?"
"Yep, Dad’s here," Bryan replied, hugging and kissing Axel, "Are you happy?"
"Yep, I’m so happy! Can you stay with me tonight, Dad?" Axel requested. Since his mom had already allowed his dad into the house, he should be allowed to stay overnight, right?
Axel’s logic was simple, so he didn’t notice the immediate change in Carolline’s expression at his request.
"Alright, whatever you say. Go wash your hands first." Bryan didn’t know how to respond, and Emily Hill, who’d returned with Carolline, quickly ushered Axel to the Health Room to wash his hands.
"Dad, I’ll go wash my hands and come back to you real quick," Axel told Bryan, acting reluctant even over such a simple task.
"Dad will go with you," Bryan said, standing up and feeling happy about helping his son wash his hands.
Henry Ruiz brought back some shrimp from the supermarket for Axel to eat and handed it to Carolline in the kitchen. Seeing her unhappy face, he said, "Don’t be so upset. Look how happy Bryan Cooper makes Axel. As his mother, don’t you want him to be happy too?"
Carolline didn’t respond. What did she say or do? She hadn’t said a word, had she?
Of course, she knew how happy Axel was, and she didn’t interfere with the father-son reunion. But she felt uncomfortable knowing she had been there for Axel for more than five years, and now that his father was back, did he even notice her?
Carolline felt lost and jealous. Who was she jealous of? Obviously, Bryan Hawkins. Why did he get to come back and steal all her son’s love away?
"Alright, look, I think Bryan Cooper came back this time intending to treat you and your son well. You two should talk about your future plans together," said Henry Ruiz, who rarely chattered so much. He didn’t think much about the rumors he had heard at the hospital. As far as he was concerned, Carolline wasn’t interested in other men and couldn’t let go of Bryan Hawkins.
