Chapter 273: Chapter 273: Being a Good Dad (3)
"This gift package is for Axel." George Edwards didn’t insist further and handed Carolline Ruiz a gift package from another table. Carolline accepted it and said, "Thank you, Uncle George, on behalf of Axel."
"No need to be so polite, Carolline. Are you free tomorrow evening? Bring Axel with you, and let’s go out for dinner." George Edwards approached her, and over the years, he had been actively pursuing Carolline, which was known by everyone.
Yes, he liked Carolline. Coming from a traditional family, he didn’t appreciate women who always dressed ostentatiously and spent their free time either clubbing or playing mahjong. Carolline, on the other hand, was entirely devoted to her family life and was his ideal woman. He didn’t mind at all that she was divorced and had a child. What he valued was a woman’s virtue.
Carolline possessed such virtues, and he knew that if he married her, there would be no worries of infidelity. She would manage their household flawlessly, and he could focus on his work.
"I’m sorry, Dean Edwards, but I’m busy tomorrow." Carolline refused directly.
"Well, then. Maybe next time." George wasn’t the type to be persistent and didn’t have much experience in pursuing women. He didn’t insist further if Carolline said she couldn’t.
After leaving George Edwards’ office, it was almost time to go off-duty. Carolline went back to her office to pack her things before heading home.
Bryan Cooper was still in her office waiting for her, looking at the gift package she brought back for Axel. He pouted, "So your workplace only gives such gift packages to Axel?"
"Be grateful that they gave anything at all. Do you think everyone is as wealthy and generous as you, Mr. Hawkins?" Carolline wasn’t greedy, and even if Axel didn’t eat what the hospital gave, she could always give it to other children. What was unacceptable was the attitude of disdain and contempt.
"..." Bryan didn’t say anything. After all, he had already prepared a gift for Axel himself. He didn’t argue with Carolline but suddenly changed the subject, "So Dean Edwards is trying to pursue you, huh?"
"... That’s someone else’s business." In other words, Carolline didn’t consider this a concern of her own. She only needed to reject George Edward’s advances; she had no right to decide whether or not someone liked her.
"Hmm, I’m delighted." Bryan nodded, smiling.
"..." Carolline was speechless. What did that have to do with him? What was he so happy about?
After washing her hands and tidying up briefly, it was time to leave work. Carolline didn’t have to pick up Axel today, so she took the gift the hospital gave to him and went home.
Bryan naturally followed closely. Everyone in the office saw Bryan following Carolline home and started to believe even more in the rumor that Bryan was Axel’s father and Carolline’s ex-husband.
Some even speculated that the reason for Bryan not wanting to get married must have been because he was hurt by Carolline, so he didn’t want to marry again. Now, it seemed that the two of them might be considering remarriage, especially since Axel was already over five years old, right?
At this time, Henry Ruiz, Carolline’s brother, was also off work. Some bold individuals stopped him to ask about Carolline and Bryan’s relationship. Henry neither confirmed nor denied, leaving the questioning to Carolline. "If you’re all so interested, just ask Carolline directly; only what she says is true."
"..." Henry’s skill was that it was nearly impossible to tell which part of his story was true or false. It was extremely difficult to pry any information from him.
However, this non-denial made others’ speculations lean even more towards the idea that Carolline and Bryan were indeed ex-spouses. Otherwise, how could the shy and conservative Carolline engage in a kissing scene with Bryan right inside the office?
