Chapter 266: Chapter 266: Shameless (5)

"...Are you planning to stay for dinner?" Carolline Ruiz raised her head, knowingly asking even though she remembered not inviting him.

"Yeah." Bryan Hawkins lowered his eyelids and lightly responded. Carolline’s gaze was too direct, and he could see her questioning whether he was being too thick-skinned. But being thick-skinned helped get things done. "Auntie said I could stay for dinner."

Bryan Hawkins shamelessly brought Emily Hill into the conversation.

"..." Carolline didn’t say anything. Since the hostess had already spoken, what else could she say? After a while, she said, "You can’t freeload. Help put the marinated dishes on plates."

Carolline casually picked up the food that Emily Hill had bought and, while grabbing a few plates from the cupboard, stuffed them into Bryan’s hands, shooing him to the wooden table nearby. She didn’t want him standing so close to her.

When handing over the things, Carolline’s fingertips accidentally touched Bryan’s hand. She instantly felt a surge of electricity coursing through her body. She quickly withdrew her hand, turned around, and pretended to be nonchalant as she continued cooking.

Soon, Carolline finished making dinner, and Henry Ruiz came home at twelve o’clock on the dot.

Seeing Bryan Hawkins, Henry went downstairs to buy a few bottles of beer, claiming that it was a good way to cool off in the hot weather.

Carolline knew her father was happy. When he wasn’t happy, even if Emily Hill bought a whole case of beer, he wouldn’t touch it. Carolline didn’t say anything since they had marinated dishes to eat with the drinks.

Anyway, one or two bottles of beer wouldn’t affect Henry Ruiz’s work in the afternoon.

During the meal, Carolline silently ate without saying a word. It was Henry Ruiz and Bryan Hawkins who chatted fervently. Emily Hill occasionally chipped in. Bryan’s low, magnetic voice drifted gently into Carolline’s ears, making her feel like the atmosphere was too harmonious.

It was so harmonious that she wondered if her parents had already betrayed her. When Bryan came home, had they already accepted him as their son-in-law? She and he had no relationship now.

Just as she was thinking about that, a pair of chopsticks appeared before her eyes, holding a chicken leg. She looked up, and the chicken leg naturally fell into her bowl. Bryan smiled, "Eat more. Don’t you have to go to work in the afternoon?"

"..." What did her work have to do with him? As she thought that, her parents’ attitude made Carolline feel uncomfortable. She picked up the chicken leg and put it back. "I’m not a kid anymore. I stopped eating chicken legs a long time ago."

She had forgotten to set aside the chicken leg earlier for Axel when preparing the plates. Axel loved the fatty, greasy chicken leg. But she didn’t like it anymore.

"..." The three of them suddenly stopped talking. Carolline’s action was too embarrassing.

"Carolline, how could you do that?" Henry Ruiz rarely scolded Carolline in public. He used to indulge her, but today, what kind of temper was she throwing?

In the past five years, she had clearly been looking forward to Bryan’s return, just like Axel. Now that he had finally returned, she was acting up.

"Alright, alright. You two drink." Emily Hill, after all, doted on her daughter and didn’t want her to be wronged. Carolline had endured so many years, and now having a little tantrum was normal. "Bryan Cooper, Carolline hasn’t eaten chicken legs in a long time. Let’s save the chicken leg for Axel."

Emily Hill smoothed things over, but Carolline never defended herself at all.

"It’s okay, Uncle and Auntie." Bryan Hawkins smiled at the two of them and then stared at Carolline. "Mmm, from now on, I will change, and slowly explore what you like to eat."

"..." Carolline felt speechless. When did he become like this?
