Chapter 260: Chapter 260 Unmasking the Lies (8)

After Carolline Ruiz was promoted to head nurse, she didn’t need to handle many things in the Inpatient Department personally. She would only help out when it got too busy. Even though her job seemed easier, her responsibilities had increased significantly. Anytime there was a complaint from a patient or their family, she would be the first person they come to.

If she couldn’t resolve it, then it would be reported up the chain of command.

At the moment, Carolline Ruiz was making her way down to the first floor to help a patient’s family member pick up medications from the pharmacy. The patient only had one family member there, who was currently upstairs assisting with moving the patient. Since she was the most available, she went.

After picking up the medications, Carolline Ruiz hurried back upstairs. While waiting for the elevator, Bryan Hawkins and Andy Aguirre emerged from the Outpatient Department Nursing Room. With so many people around, neither of them noticed each other.

As the elevator arrived, Lottie Mitchell came out of it. She used to be an Outpatient Nurse, but now had become an Internal Medicine Department nurse. Before Carolline Ruiz could get into the elevator, Lottie Mitchell pulled her aside, "Carolline Ruiz, I wanted to discuss something with you."

Lottie Mitchell had a loud voice, which Carolline Ruiz had experienced during their time working together with Matilda Ferguson. After so many years, Lottie Mitchell’s voice had not changed but rather intensified.

With her shout, both Andy Aguirre and Bryan Hawkins noticed Carolline Ruiz. Most of the people had just crowded into the elevator, so Carolline Ruiz and Lottie Mitchell were quickly spotted by them.

"What’s the matter? Tell me quickly, as there is a patient upstairs waiting for me to deliver the medication." Carolline Ruiz wanted to settle the issue quickly and would usually try to help out as much as possible.

"For the schedule next month, I’d like to take two days off in a row, specifically on the 20th and 21st. I have some personal matters to attend to. Could you arrange it for me? I’m worried it might be difficult to change my shifts at the last minute." Lottie Mitchell asked with a smile. Carolline Ruiz, as the head nurse, had previously said that such requests should be made in advance, allowing only two people per month to do so. If more than two people requested, it would have to be postponed.

Carolline Ruiz was responsible for scheduling shifts for all the nurses in the hospital. Now, she rarely had the opportunity to work directly in the wards unless there was a particularly challenging patient. In fact, she had almost become a logistics personnel.

This was the role Carolline Ruiz had set for herself.

"I’ll see what I can do when I’m scheduling. I can’t promise anything right now, but I’ll let you know by phone." Carolline Ruiz more or less agreed to the request.

"Mhm, thank you, thank you. By the way, aren’t you taking a day off on Thursday? I am too. Let’s go shopping together and I’ll treat you to a meal." Lottie Mitchell was trying to bribe her, and it was quite normal for two women to go shopping together, so no one would suspect anything.

"We’ll see, we’ll see." Carolline’s earpiece rang, as the nurse upstairs was urging her to hurry up. With a wave of her hand, she left.

At that moment, Bryan Hawkins did not move. He had excellent hearing and, despite the distance, he heard everything clearly. Carolline was taking a day off on Thursday, but just last night, when he wanted to talk to her privately, she had outright refused him, telling him she had no time this entire week.

This was an outright lie.

Immediately, his expression changed. However, Andy Aguirre did not notice, and prompted him, "What are you staring at? Don’t act so reluctant to leave. If you were really that attached, would you be able to not come back and see them for five whole years?"

Five years. How many hours, minutes, and seconds had passed? Bryan Hawkins was in business, so he should have a much clearer understanding of numbers than a medical professional like Andy Aguirre.

Andy Aguirre coldly mocked him, bringing Bryan Hawkins back to his senses. From Andy Aguirre’s tone, it was evident that he was defending Carolline and Axel. Because he was doing so for this reason, Bryan Hawkins refrained from responding or retaliating.
