Chapter 258: Chapter 258 Unmasking the Lies (6)

She got up way too early today. She hadn’t slept well as she had been called back home by her mother-in-law’s persistent phone calls the previous day. She had eaten a nutritious dinner and was forced to stay overnight, which is why she had to get up so early. If she had known, she wouldn’t have stayed the night. If she were at her own house, she would have taken advantage of her day off and slept until noon.

Her mother-in-law complained about her irregular schedule, but she did want to keep to a regular one. Last week she had gone on a business trip with her leader and didn’t have Andy’s company. Her weekend was occupied and her leader gave her Monday and Tuesday off to compensate. Coincidentally, Andy was off today too, so she had planned to cuddle with her husband and enjoy a good sleep.

But all her plans were disrupted by her mother-in-law. Really.

"Auntie is very nice, you won’t find another one like her even if you search with a lantern. Treasure her," Carolline shook her head. They say people are never satisfied. If a woman doesn’t have a good mother-in-law, she may complain, but still find faults if she has a good one.

"Yes yes yes, she’s the perfect mother-in-law. I won’t give her to you even if you want her, hmph!" Megan was acting haughty again. Andy couldn’t help but nudge her gently with his elbow.

"Why? I’m just talking about my son’s biological mother, what’s your problem with that?" Megan purposefully glared at Andy.

Andy decided not to provoke her further. There’s a saying that if you can’t annoy someone, you should avoid them, right?

Also, wasn’t it Megan who first acknowledged the godson? He only later acknowledged him as his godson. Why does it sound like the godson is solely his now?

"You guys keep arguing. I’m going back," Carolline said, as she still had a pile of dishes to wash.

"Come to our house for lunch, okay?" Megan called after her.

"In your dreams! These dishes are for your godson tonight! If you want to eat, go to a restaurant!" Carolline replied unceremoniously. Megan pouted. She was too lazy to go over anyway. After breakfast, she planned to go back to her own house and sleep.

"Stingy! Andy, tell me why Carolline is getting stingier nowadays," Megan chattered on the way home.

"This isn’t stinginess. Our family and yours have always been different. Frugality and thrift are taught to us by our parents since childhood," Andy explained patiently.

"What do you mean by that? Are you saying I don’t know about our country’s traditional virtues? Huh?" Megan’s eyes widened, pretending to be fierce as she yelled at Andy.

"Fine, I didn’t say anything," Andy grimaced. Every time his mother invited them over for a meal, Megan would find ways to argue. He knew she wasn’t happy because whenever the mother-in-law and daughter-in-law met, they would talk about children and mention Carolline.

Actually, as long as they didn’t discuss the topic of children, the relationship between the mother-in-law and daughter-in-law was fine. They would go shopping together for stylish clothes and beauty products. His mother had never complained about Megan’s spending habits, given that when Megan married him, her family provided a house and car as a dowry.

Eventually, the Aguirre family bought a house too, and Megan sold the house her parents had given her and kept the car.

The Clifton family was wealthy and had an only daughter, so his mother never questioned Megan’s spending habits or asked about his money, whether he managed it himself or gave it to Megan.

On their wedding day, he had voluntarily handed over his bank and payroll cards to Megan, but she shook her head and declined. She even gave him a passionate kiss and said, "Honey, it’s enough that you have this intention. You manage the money. It’s more convenient when you need it."
