Chapter 249: Chapter 249: I’m Not Leaving (6)
The second course was soup. Carolline Ruiz had a traditional goulash-style beef broth served with rye bread, Axel’s was a Mediterranean cream of matsutake with wild black truffle, and his own was a simple Nordic seafood chowder.
The third course was salad. Carolline Ruiz had an Oslo sweet and sour salmon with vegetable salad roll, Axel’s was a French-style sour cream fruit salad with fresh raspberry sauce, and his own was a Mediterranean sweet shrimp salad.
Only the fourth course was the main dish, featuring chicken, duck, fish, meat, and game, not simply steak.
Hearing his son longing for a steak, Bryan Cooper ordered Carolline Ruiz a Michelin three-star Time Steak with morel truffle sauce, his son had a charcoal grilled T-bone steak with black pepper sauce and stir-fried mushrooms, and he himself ordered a Provencal Char-grilled Cod with pan-seared foie gras and blackcurrant.
The fifth course was the staple food, usually pasta, but also rice, and also each chef’s creative staple food.
Bryan Cooper also ordered three servings: for Carolline Ruiz, he ordered Black Pepper Beef Loin Stir-fried Pasta, for his son Stir-fried Pasta with Seafood and Tomato Sauce, and for himself Curry Beef Rice. He had not eaten well in the morning and at noon, so he had to treat himself well in the evening.
Last but not least were the desserts. Bryan Cooper ordered two - he didn’t eat dessert himself, so he asked the pastry chef to make him a pot of coffee. Carolline Ruiz’s dessert was a Nordic Fragrant Pear Pudding with a side of Fresh Chocolate Mousse, and Axel’s was a Warm Chinese Style Sweet Pancake with Vanilla Ice Cream and Mint Jelly.
At the very end, Bryan Cooper ordered two 8-inch cakes: one Chocolate Cake and one Nut Cake, both to be packed up and taken away.
In fact, they couldn’t finish all these dishes. But since it was Axel’s first time eating Western food, as a father and the future inheritor of the Hawkins Family, Axel needed to understand some Western dining procedures. So Bryan Cooper treated it as a lesson for Axel.
Later on, when Carolline Ruiz found out about this, she chastised Bryan Cooper for quite a while, saying that it was her first time seeing someone waste so much money on such a luxurious lesson for their child. Rich people indeed lived differently.
Of course, as a result of Carolline Ruiz’s arguing, she was severely punished by Bryan Cooper that night, causing her to be late for work the next day, actually half a day late, which was considered an absence. This affected her year-end bonus, and Carolline Ruiz was heartbroken.
Carolline Ruiz had never been so embarrassed before, and Bryan Cooper shamelessly seized the opportunity to persuade her to quit her job, mainly because he disliked Carolline Ruiz’s night shifts. After all, he was a man who had spent five years as a monk. His body and mind needed nightly revelry to make up for those five years of emptiness and loneliness.
That’s a story for another time. Returning to our little Axel’s very first extravagant Western meal.
Axel, of course, didn’t know the value of these expensive dishes, but he really couldn’t eat them. He ate two bites of the first appetizer and really couldn’t eat a third bite. Carolline Ruiz actually ate half of it, while Bryan Cooper basically finished it. Seeing Axel not eating, he didn’t feel it was a waste and let the waiter take it away and change the soup.
As for the soup, Axel drank three sips and felt it was not bad after it entered his stomach, so he drank a big gulp. Carolline Ruiz also drank her soup and Bryan Cooper, needless to say, being hungry for almost a day, could easily eat a whole cow, let alone having his wife and child by his side. His appetite was wide open.
Axel still didn’t finish the soup, but Bryan Cooper didn’t feel it was a waste either. The soup was expensive, but it was no use leaving it on the table if his son didn’t eat it.
The third course, the salad, was also not to Axel’s liking, but his little spoon and fork were not only used to taste his own food this time but also Carolline Ruiz’s and Bryan Cooper’s. He eventually shook his head, indicating that he didn’t like it.
