Chapter 220: Chapter 220: Signing the Divorce (2)

Joyce didn’t respond, lost in her own thoughts.

Soon, Bryan Hawkins’ cellphone rang. It was a call from home. He walked to the balcony before answering, "Grandma––."

"Where are you?" his grandma asked, clutching the phone. She had hesitated for a long time before deciding to call her eldest grandson at this late hour.

"At the apartment." Bryan lied; he didn’t want to discuss tonight’s events with her at the moment.

"The results are out... the child indeed isn’t yours," his grandmother finally revealed. She had known this outcome since early evening and had spent a long time digesting the news herself.

"...I see," Bryan said, an indescribable mix of emotions welling up inside him. It wasn’t hatred or resentment, but a quiet pain that spread throughout him. In the end, he let her slip away from his life.

For three full hours, Bryan stood out on the balcony. Joyce finished an entire bottle of IV fluid without even realizing he was gone. When she called out to him with no reply, she had no choice but to ring the nurse.

The nurse entered the room to change Joyce’s IV drip, but Bryan remained on the balcony, completely oblivious. He stood there motionless like a lone wolf, resembling a statue in Joyce’s eyes.

At that moment, Joyce didn’t know what Bryan was thinking, but she felt that he was surrounded by an intense sadness.

This version of Bryan was something Joyce had never seen before. When he finally emerged from the enclosed balcony, she thought the Bryan that followed seemed like a completely different person—cold, calm, and devoid of emotions, as if he was a machine.

——Scene change——

At 10 a.m. the next day, Carolline Ruiz finished her tasks and went to rest in the Resting Room. She had already applied for leave with the dean’s office but had not yet received a reply.

It was time for her 10 a.m. snack, so she sat there eating while Avery Graham walked in with a gloomy expression on her face. She filled a glass with water, didn’t take a sip, and slammed the glass down on the table with a loud thud.

Carolline was startled, "What’s wrong? Who upset you this time?"

"Who else could it be?" Avery was extremely annoyed. Seeing Carolline eating cookies, she absentmindedly took one from the container and bit into it before letting out a deep sigh. "I might not be your colleague for much longer."

"What? Why?" Carolline, like many others experiencing ’pregnancy brain,’ took a while to understand Avery’s meaning. After some thought, she finally laughed, "Oh, did my dad agree to take you on? Haven’t you always wanted to work with him as a special care nurse?"

However, after a moment’s more thought, Carolline realized something was off. If her dad had agreed to take Avery on, Avery should be overjoyed, not looking this despondent.

"Would I be upset if that were the case?"

Avery thought about what had happened earlier when she went to Henry Ruiz’s office, and she felt nauseous.

She had gone to see Henry about special care nursing, but when she went to the dean’s office to apply, the dean’s assistant told her the application needed Henry’s personal approval before they could proceed. Once he agreed, they would arrange it for her immediately.

So, Avery went to look for Henry, but who knew she would run into the annoying Bernard Taylor in his office. Bernard, with his carefree demeanor, seemed incredibly good-looking in the eyes of other women.

Well, objectively speaking, Avery did think Bernard was quite handsome, and his surgical skills were also superb. However, she couldn’t stand his bad temper and odd character, particularly his venomous words, which made her want to explode at any moment.
