Chapter 219: Chapter 219: Signing the Divorce (1)
Bryan Hawkins took out the divorce agreement personally written by Carolline Ruiz from his arms, and at the same time pulled out a pen and swiftly wrote down his own name. He then handed it to Xavier Estrada, "Find a lawyer tomorrow to process this, and then give Carolline the divorce certificate."
"...Mr. Hawkins, this..." Xavier had always been by his side, so he naturally knew Bryan had been treasuring the divorce agreement in his arms for quite some time without ever intending to sign it. But now, he suddenly signed it.
Moreover, he asked for the completed divorce certificate to be handed to Carolline. What was he thinking? Did he really want to take responsibility for Joyce Lopez, as the Lopez family said?
It was just a shoulder injury. To Xavier, it was a harmless scratch. But it seemed as if the Lopez family had found a good opportunity to coerce Bryan.
"Follow my orders and don’t overthink. Signing this has nothing to do with Joyce. It’s what I owe Carolline." Only in front of Xavier would Bryan speak his true thoughts.
"..." Xavier suddenly realized that perhaps Bryan let go because he thought Andy Aguirre could make Carolline happy. "But Mr. Hawkins, what about the Lopez family?"
The Lopez family was not easy to deal with. The master had a great relationship with Jack Lopez. If Jack threatened the master, considering that Joyce’s injury was real, would the master threaten Bryan?
If Bryan didn’t get a divorce from Carolline, even if threatened, he could just take out the marriage certificate, and no one would have anything to say, right? However, at this moment, Bryan insisted on divorcing Carolline. For a moment, Xavier didn’t know what Bryan was thinking.
"You just do your job, go and do as I say. Tonight, I’m staying here." Bryan didn’t want to say more. The unspoken intentions of the Lopez family were clear to him. However, in this world, not just Jack himself, even if it was the devil, no one could threaten him to do something he didn’t want to do.
He accepted Joyce’s intention to block the knife for him, but he wouldn’t be grateful for her reckless behavior. If it weren’t for her impulsive moment, he could have protected himself and wouldn’t have gotten injured. At most, he would have just received a small cut that only injured the skin.
"Yes." Xavier took the order and left, knowing that his words were useless once Bryan made up his mind.
Bryan re-entered the room and saw Joyce crying on the bed. He quickly walked over, "What’s wrong? Is your wound hurting?"
"..." The wound did hurt, but it still couldn’t compare to the pain in her heart. With tears in her eyes, Joyce looked at Bryan’s cold and calm face and choked, "Are you alright? Did I do something wrong?"
"Don’t talk nonsense, just focus on recovering. We’ll discuss this when you’re better." Bryan calmly comforted her, "By the way, are you hungry? I can order some food for you. What do you want to eat?"
"Not hungry." Joyce shook her head and refused. Her shoulder was in great pain, and she thought she might have injured the joint. Even a gentle tug would cause severe pain.
At that moment, she found the courage to block the knife for Bryan because she believed that he might accept her after that. However, somehow, after her surgery, she felt increasingly hopeless about this hope.
Thinking about it, she found it strange, as if her once confused self had suddenly become sober after that stab. Or perhaps Bryan’s reaction was completely different from what she had imagined before.
Bryan didn’t notice her reaction; she wasn’t hungry, so he helped adjust her blanket and then sat down on the couch nearby, "I’ll be right here with you. Call me if you need anything."
