Chapter 187: Chapter 187: Coming and Going (1)

The next day, the weather was particularly nice. Carolline Ruiz had been here for almost two weeks, and she and Gavin Campbell hadn’t taken a day off. That morning, the three of them had just sat down to have breakfast together, intending to go to work after the meal, when the Village Chief came in.

"Today, the village seeks rain, so there won’t be anyone going to the clinic. You guys should take a day off, especially Dr. Zhang and Carolline, who haven’t had a break since they arrived. Andy Aguirre too, who has only been here a few days and has already encountered such severe situations."

Every year before the busy farming season, under the leadership of the Village Chief, the villagers would follow him to the desolate temple in the village to pray for rain and a good harvest in the coming year. On this day, even if someone had a minor illness or pain, they didn’t need to seek medical help.

His wife, along with several other women, had been busy since five in the morning and wouldn’t have time to cook for them at noon. Therefore, they could only go to the temple to eat at noon.

"At half past twelve, you all should come to the temple for lunch. Your aunt won’t have time to bring you food today. Okay, I have to go out and prepare things now, so make yourselves at home."

After giving instructions, the Village Chief left.

Gavin Campbell ate four big steamed buns. The steamed buns were personally steamed by the Village Chief’s wife and tasted incredibly delicious. Carolline Ruiz could eat two of them, as well as eggs.

"So, how are we going to arrange our day today?" After eating, Carolline Ruiz washed all their dishes. She went to check on the chicken coop and, upon returning, heard Gavin Campbell asking Andy Aguirre excitedly.

"It’s fine to just stroll around the village." Andy Aguirre didn’t have much enthusiasm.

"Carolline, what about you? We finally have a day off. Shouldn’t we take advantage of this break and have some fun?" Gavin Campbell asked loudly.

"I haven’t seen a rain-seeking ceremony before. I’d like to go to the temple and see." Carolline Ruiz spoke her mind. Since she didn’t lack anything, she didn’t need to go to town. Besides, the two cars in the village were for emergency use only, not for them to use at their leisure.

"Tsk, you guys are really no fun. Ugh, why did I come to such a place with nothing? Ahhhh—" Gavin Campbell was extremely frustrated. The initial novelty had worn off, and now he truly felt bored. The fact that his phone had no signal and couldn’t make calls was bad enough; he couldn’t even go online or watch a movie.

Even TV shows were limited, and flipping through them proved monotonous. With half a year to go, he didn’t know how to pass the time.

In the past, he had visited similarly barren places when visiting relatives. He would spend a few days every year visiting his elderly family members, but never staying more than two or three days. Unlike here, where he would stay half a year.

"Stop shouting, let’s go and see how they seek rain. I’ve never seen this before." Carolline showed great interest.

Andy Aguirre also planned to go, and what could Gavin Campbell do besides agree? Would he stay at home alone, bored and lonely to death?

After deciding, the three strolled leisurely toward the temple. The children were given an exception that day, not needing to go to school, and could watch the event. Gavin Campbell had good connections; once he left the Village Chief’s house, a few village children took him away, and he naturally joined them, playing and laughing together.

Andy Aguirre had only recently arrived, so the children weren’t very familiar with him. They wanted to invite Carolline Ruiz to go with them, but because Andy was with her, they didn’t dare to ask. Thus, Andy and Carolline strolled down the road together.
