Chapter 122: Chapter 122: Being Denied (2) Chapter 122: Chapter 122: Being Denied (2) “That’s good to know.” Andy Aguirre pouted.
Carolline Ruiz watched these two, feeling like they were enemies in their past lives. It was one thing to argue on the computer, but now that they were back in the country, they still managed to bicker.
In the past, Andy seemed like a very calm person in her eyes. But since meeting Megan Clifton, all his calmness seemed to vanish. Carolline listened to their arguments, thinking that perhaps their relationship might change in the near future.
Of course, she wouldn’t dare say that to them at this point, fearing that they would both give her a mouthful.
When Megan Clifton left, she took Andy with her. With Carolline’s help, Andy had no choice but to leave. After all, it was getting late, and Carolline said she was tired. It wouldn’t be appropriate for him, a grown man, to linger in her room at such a late hour.
Finally, having sent both of them off, Carolline was able to breathe a sigh of relief.
Five minutes later, Emily Hill brought in some milk and asked many questions about Andy. Carolline answered them all patiently while Emily listened with a smile.
In fact, Emily and Andy’s mother had talked before about how perfect it would be if Andy got together with Carolline. Andy’s parents liked Carolline a lot, and she and Henry Ruiz also didn’t mind Andy. Now that Andy had returned from studying abroad, he met the requirements of the Ruiz Family’s master. It was a perfect match indeed.
Emily entirely vetoed the idea of Bryan Hawkins these days. No matter what Henry tried to tell her these days, she refused to listen. She stubbornly believed that everything that happened to Carolline was Bryan’s fault.
Matilda Ferguson, that woman, used to be Bryan Hawkins’s ex-girlfriend. The things she did to Carolline were all out of jealousy, right?
Eventually, Bryan explained the entire story to Henry and Emily. After hearing it, Emily became even more convinced that Carolline’s misfortunes were caused by him, and she would not allow Henry to speak for Bryan.
Hesitant to upset Emily, Henry decided to give in to her for the time being, asking Carolline to bear it as well, not to help Bryan at this moment, and to give her mom some time to think things through.
For now, the issue was resolved within the Ruiz Family and nothing was said about it outside.
Whenever someone asked how Carolline got injured on her neck, the Ruiz Family’s response was that Carolline accidentally got scratched by shards of glass while cleaning windows.
The next day was New Year’s Eve, and everyone in the Ruiz Family gathered at the courtyard.
Upon hearing about the incident, Carolline’s grandfather became extremely worried. Carolline had decent facial features, but now with a large cut on her neck, which was exposed every day, it would be hard to look at even after the stitches were removed. She hadn’t even married, and she was already disfigured! What to do?
“Emily, tonight is New Year’s Eve. Regardless of whether or not you’ve taken part in this tradition in the past, this year, you must come with us to burn incense – the first stick of the New Year – as a blessing for your accident-prone daughter.” Carolline’s grandfather gave the order.
In previous years, Emily was indeed not very keen on participating in this activity. However, this year was different, so she obediently agreed, “Alright, dad.”
“Mmm, Carolline is injured, so she should go lay down on the chair for a while. She doesn’t need to do anything.” Carolline’s grandfather said to her, his attitude gentle.
“Thank you, grandpa.” Carolline expressed her gratitude. Her grandpa did care about the Ruiz Family, but sometimes his concern could be too intense and hard to bear.
There was no significant conflict between them. It was just that sometimes their opinions would differ, making Carolline and her mom reluctant to visit the Ruiz Family courtyard frequently.
