Chapter 1048: 025 Meeting of the parents-in-law, setting the wedding date
Avery Graham was really downcast. He had always been cautious while driving and had been behind the wheel for several years since obtaining his Driving License. He had always regarded himself as a law-abiding good driver, with rarely any records of traffic violations or overspeeding, let alone incidents where his car scratched someone else’s. This was truly the first time.
He was utterly infuriated by Bernard Taylor. He was supposed to hit the brakes just now, but, frustrated, he mistakenly stepped on the accelerator and ended up fiercely kissing the rear of the car in front of him.
Then, due to the rear-end collision involving their two cars, a brief blockage occurred on the road they were traveling on, naturally causing a congestion. A person got out of the vehicle in front and first checked the rear of his own car, then looked at a bewildered Avery sitting in the driving cabin.
Without saying anything, he first took a warning sign from the trunk and placed it about fifteen meters to the rear, then came back and stopped next to Avery’s driving cabin, knocking on his window, "Lady, hello."
"Uh, hello, sir, I’m so sorry, I... I really didn’t do it on purpose," Avery pleaded, genuinely not having done it deliberately; it was just a careless mistake of pressing the accelerator instead of the brake.
He had seen on the news before, some novice idiots on the road, actually mistaking the accelerator for the brake. At that time, Avery’s reaction was just a callous laugh—how could anyone be so foolish as to mistake the accelerator for the brake?
What on earth was their brain filled with, crap?
Now he, Avery, was also someone with a brain full of crap, truly idiotic.
"I was driving normally. You weren’t drinking wine, were you?" The man did not accept Avery’s flattery or pleas, "I’m calling the cops now to handle this accident. Also, I might notify my lawyer. You damaged the rear of my car. I just got this car from abroad the day before yesterday. Just by looking, this car’s light and rear, you’re probably going to need at least one million to prepare, and right now I’m supposed to attend a date. I’ll definitely be late now. My personal credibility is also damaged because of your oversight, so I will have my lawyer demand a compensation of at least ten million from you. Please be mentally prepared for this."
The man coldly stated his demands. He could accept his car being damaged like this, but his personal credibility being tarnished like this, he must make this reckless woman pay the price.
Upon hearing this, Avery was completely dumbfounded. Just one mistake, and he was expected to pay ten million? He was already drowning in debt, wasn’t he? With this extra ten million, was he supposed to work for others for his entire life?
Weren’t he, Celia Wade, and Caroline Ruiz good friends? Why did those two become rich women after getting married, while his life had to be so bitter? Now it was even more unbearably bitter.
"Ten million, can you give a discount?" Avery thought he was only musing to himself but realized he had blurted out his thought when he saw the man’s face change.
But really, why should he have to pay ten million just because this man said so? Did the man think he was a fool?
And what’s more, nine million for reputation damage he had never even heard of before. Of course, there was also the matter of paying one million for some car light and the rear of the car, just because the car was imported? So what?
Imports were originally cheaper than those sold domestically. He dared to ask for the sky, really thinking he was some ignorant country bumpkin?
"..." The man felt Avery was bizarre, just when he was about to say something, his phone rang. Seeing the caller ID, a gentle smile finally appeared on the man’s rigid, cold face, "Hi, Taylor, sorry, I ran into a minor scrape here. I’ll be there once I’ve handled it, can you wait for me a while?"
The other person, unaware of what they said, but Avery saw the man respond both shocked and pleased, "Really? That’s great, I still need to call the police. I’m on Holmes Road, right across the street from Brigs Supermarket, yeah, you’ll see the warning sign. I’ll call the police first; you can take your time coming over."
