Chapter 1019: 020 Win Back Face_7
She just wanted to see with her own eyes.
Giselle Browman sneered, "Auntie Wu, have you done your health checkup this year yet?"
The reason Giselle Browman asked this was that she worried whether Auntie Wu, upon seeing her aunt and uncle-in-law’s house, might get so agitated that she would suffer a stroke or heart attack, and then they would be blamed for not taking care of her.
"Yes, I did. Your aunt went with us, right? From the old Graham family," Auntie Wu said to Avery’s mother.
"Mhm." Avery’s mother nodded. She had once thought Auntie Wu was well-informed, but at this moment, she truly felt that her husband was right—this Auntie Wu was just too foolish.
Avery’s father sat in the passenger seat without saying a word. He liked the question Giselle Browman asked the most because he thought Auntie Wu was a sick person. If she wasn’t, then why would she care so much about which family was arguing or divorcing? She always liked to gossip about others in public.
He just couldn’t believe her family didn’t have any issues.
After that, it was Avery’s mother who kept Auntie Wu company and chatted for a while, as neither Giselle Browman nor Avery’s father was very keen on engaging with her.
Avery only wanted to shut Auntie Wu up. Of course, she wanted to go to the Residential Area and brag about having such a capable daughter like her, which was also fine. After all, it was good to let her parents feel proud before leaving this neighborhood.
She knew that her mother had always been pressuring her to go on matchmaking dates, which was inseparable from these gossip-loving nosy neighbors, so she wanted to teach Auntie Wu a profound lesson.
It was all about killing the chicken to warn the monkey; just bringing Auntie Wu alone to take a look would do.
Avery drove straight to Eshopia Hall, and upon showing her identification at the gate, the security guard saluted her respectfully before letting her through.
As the car approached Eshopia Hall, Auntie Wu almost shut her mouth. Seeing Avery drive in so smoothly, she was even more speechless. The disdain and arrogance she had earlier vanished completely.
Her eyes fixated on the houses in front of her—each one a stand-alone villa, not the kind of row houses her son bought. Each one looked grand, with plenty of space for themselves.
When Eshopia Hall was first opened, many young people brought the elderly to view the houses because Eshopia Hall was marketed for the elderly. The environment was beautifully crafted with impeccable greenery, all to provide the elderly and children a beautiful and comfortable living space.
Auntie Wu simply couldn’t believe that Avery was so capable, to buy a villa there for her parents, even a small one, which was enviable.
She was incredibly envious, very envious indeed. She believed that if their neighbors in the Residential Area knew about Avery’s capabilities, they would be even more envious. Auntie Wu knew her status in the neighborhood would definitely be replaced by Avery’s mother.
Those opportunistic old folks would surely flock around Avery’s mother instead of her from then on.
She wasn’t worried, though; Avery’s parents were bound to move out eventually, and once they did, her status in the Residential Area would return. Still, thinking about it made her feel uncomfortable.
"Avery, how much did you pay with the internal discount? Are there any more houses available at the internal price? Can you get one for your Auntie Wu too?" Auntie Wu remembered what Avery had said.
"There aren’t any left. The signs outside all say ’Sold Out’, and besides, I had to pull strings through a friend of a friend," Avery replied as she parked the car, answering Auntie Wu’s question.
"Is this friend your boyfriend?" Auntie Wu asked tentatively, reasoning that no one else would go through so much trouble to please her.
"Yeah, he’ll be coming to see my parents in a couple of days. If there’s a chance, I’ll introduce him to you, Auntie Wu," Avery admitted generously. Having a boyfriend like Bernard Taylor only reflected well on her; there was nothing to hide.
"Eh? This means he’s not that guy with the same last name as you mentioned before, right?" Auntie Wu was sensitive and perceptive, and she picked up on the implication.
Avery’s father was about to blow his top, but Avery’s mother stopped him with a hand gesture.
Avery smiled faintly, "Yes, it’s not him anymore. The previous one found a new girlfriend, so I was dumped."
"?" Auntie Wu’s eyes widened suddenly, and after a moment, her face reddened. She truly hadn’t expected Avery to admit it so openly.
At the time, Auntie Wu had happened upon Michael Auclair on the street with a woman, and since Avery’s mother had long been absent from their activities since returning from the New Year celebration, or had stopped talking about her son-in-law, they assumed Avery and that man were definitely getting married, as they had met each other’s parents during the New Year.
As a result, with Avery’s mother staying silent and her own encounter with that man in the company of another woman, plus her own speculations, she spread her guesses far and wide.
Avery’s parents both felt somewhat awkward. Avery’s father’s biggest complaint about Auntie Wu was her mouth—she was too fond of spreading rumors.
"Let’s go look at the house. Mom, Dad, if you have any dissatisfaction later, feel free to speak up. I’ll call the designer then," Avery said directly to her parents.
"Sure thing," Avery’s mother and father said in unison.
The family proceeded ahead while Auntie Wu stood there, unsure whether to follow or not.
"Come on, Auntie Wu, you always have unique insights. Why don’t you also give some advice to my aunt and uncle?" Giselle Browman said with a laugh, her sarcastic tone quite apparent.
Auntie Wu’s complexion grew worse. What advice could she give? It wasn’t her who would live in the house.
