Chapter 1018: 020 Win Back Face_6
"Yeah, Auntie, just accept Bernard Taylor already. Bernard is truly a good guy. I’m telling you, if Avery misses out on him in this lifetime, she’ll definitely regret it. You don’t know, but she actually likes him a lot too. The reason she rejected him before was because she thought Bernard was too good for her. She felt she wasn’t worthy of him. In reality, in the world of love, there’s no such thing as being worthy or not. It only matters whether you like someone or not. Anyway, when I saw Bernard kiss her, Avery never once refused; she even responded with a lot of enthusiasm."
"... What are you blathering about?" Mrs. Graham was stunned for a moment before smacking Giselle Browman on the butt. This girl—what does she mean by responding with a lot of enthusiasm?
These two have already kissed; today of all days, she didn’t bring him home with her. Really now.
Mrs. Graham’s expectations for Bernard were growing by the minute.
"I’m going to cook now. Come out later, okay?" Mrs. Graham reminded Giselle Browman, worried that their secretive conversation might be overheard by Avery.
When Mrs. Graham went to the kitchen, she saw Avery helping her and Mr. Graham out willingly, which made her quite gratified. After a while, Giselle Browman came out and received a phone call from her superior, Alvin Morris, who instructed her to come over immediately.
Just as Giselle Browman was about to refuse, Alvin Morris hung up the phone. Giselle Browman got so angry that she turned off her phone and ignored him.
Subsequently, Mrs. Graham sent Avery out, who then saw Giselle Browman sitting on the couch, grabbing an apple, and biting into it indignantly, as if she was biting into some sworn enemy or something.
What happened now?
She asked, but Giselle Browman didn’t explain much, and Avery didn’t press on. After all, everyone has their own privacy. If she wanted to talk about it, Avery would listen; if she really didn’t want to share, there was nothing that could be done.
The four of them shared a sumptuous lunch and, after lunch, Mr. Graham wanted to take a nap. However, Mrs. Graham was anxious to check on the house renovation and wouldn’t let Mr. Graham rest.
Avery took the car keys and the house keys she had prepared in advance and, along with Giselle Browman, the four of them left the house.
On the way through the residential area, they ran into Mrs. Auclair and some other people. Since lunch had been quite a spread and took a long time to prepare and eat, by the time they finished, it was almost two in the afternoon. The elderly people, not wanting to nap in fear of not being able to sleep at night, would usually gather to chat or play cards in the residential area after lunch.
"Hey, out with the family, are we? Avery, are you taking your parents out for some fun?" Mrs. Auclair asked with a chilled laugh.
Listening to Mrs. Auclair’s tone, Mr. Graham didn’t like it one bit. These lonely old ladies, who gossip all day, loved to talk about other people’s household affairs, and he didn’t want his wife mingling with them all the time. Unfortunately, whenever Mrs. Graham got bored, she would come down and mix with them. He had mentioned it a few times, but she didn’t listen.
It wasn’t a big deal if she didn’t listen. After all, he would go out for a walk and play chess after his afternoon nap, out of sight, out of mind.
"We’re not going out for fun; we’re going to check out the new house’s renovation progress," Avery responded with a smile. "Mrs. Auclair, if you’re free this afternoon, why don’t you join us?"
Avery knew that Mrs. Auclair didn’t believe what they had said this morning. In fact, Avery had no intention of showing off in front of these people. After all, they were living their own lives. However, she knew that ever since she and Michael Auclair started dating, Mrs. Auclair enjoyed stirring up rumors and talking about their family affairs.
Since the matter of the house had already been mentioned by Giselle Browman, and she hadn’t stopped her, she might as well let Mrs. Auclair see for herself. This way, Mrs. Auclair might finally stop showing off in front of their family.
So what if her two sons own two companies? What’s there to be so proud of?
Every year, Mrs. Auclair managed to get a good sum of money from her two sons, but look at her house—she was just by herself. Her sons and daughters-in-law had no time to visit; she was all alone and nobody said anything about her, right?
She should just live her life in peace. Still, she insisted on gossiping about the short and long of it all.
The reason Avery only invited Mrs. Auclair was that she knew in this residential area, as long as Mrs. Auclair was a witness, the others would believe.
"Really? Well, let’s go together, Avery. You know I’m all by myself; I really have nothing else going on," Mrs. Auclair said, feeling that Avery’s invitation was perfect for her.
