Chapter 1010: 019 She is Violet Orson_5
Even just a kiss was significant.
"All right, where do you want to go to eat?" Bernard Taylor started buckling his seatbelt while setting off.
Avery Graham also fastened her seatbelt, "Let’s have Chinese food. Just order a few dishes and soup, keep it simple; I still want to go back for an afternoon nap."
She had gotten up quite early today and was feeling a bit sleepy.
"Mm-hmm." Bernard nodded, for today, there really was nothing much else to arrange.
The two drove around and found a Chinese restaurant, choosing a place that was relatively upscale—at least the hygiene and the dishes passed muster.
They parked their car, and just as they got out, they saw Mona Cervantes.
Mona Cervantes was also on a day off today. Bored at home, she went out with a few friends for a meal and unexpectedly ran into Bernard Taylor and Avery Graham at the restaurant.
So they really were together.
At that moment, Mona immediately understood—the times she had seen Nancy Sallow in public, Nancy’s politeness towards her wasn’t the same as the past warmth. Mona knew it was because Bernard didn’t like her, Nancy also did not pin her hopes on Mona.
Indeed, Mona really liked Bernard, but she couldn’t resort to pestering him desperately since Bernard had said he didn’t like her. She had not bothered him any further.
When Bernard saw Mona, he nodded at her. Mona rarely smiled, but this was the first time since she had known Bernard that he took the initiative to greet her. She told her friends to go ahead inside and walked towards them.
"Miss Graham, today I went with my friends to your shop and got a membership card. I originally wanted you to give me a discount, but you were not there — turns out you two are on a date, huh?" Mona said straightforwardly without any sarcasm.
"Once the membership card is processed, you enjoy the benefits, and the discount level is the same for everyone," Bernard explained and, without waiting to see if Avery was agreeable, took her hand, "Avery Graham is my girlfriend, Miss Cervantes, and as for the business collaboration, we aim to make money. Business is business; we can’t offer special discounts to anyone. Please understand."
"..." Mona understood, being savvy from her experiences in the business world, "Bernard, you misunderstood, I truly went to Avery’s cake shop to get the card. When I first met you, indeed, I did look for Avery, but I never did anything inappropriate, did I? Avery, besides, I’ll wish you both well now that you’re together."
"Miss Cervantes—" Avery really didn’t know what to say. She still remembered the things Mona had said when she came to her shop. But now, she was actually with Bernard, and she felt a bit embarrassed about it.
"It’s fine. When it comes to feelings, like is like, and you can’t force it. Besides, back then, I felt that you actually liked Bernard quite a lot; it’s just that you hadn’t realized it yourself. Anyway, I won’t disturb you further. My friends are waiting for me, so I’m going inside now." Having said her piece, Mona turned around and walked away, but as she did, she still felt a sting in her heart, so much so that a tear fell, and she quickly wiped it away.
But the Mona Cervantes of now was not the Mona of the past. She had come to terms with many things.
Matters of the heart were always like that, impossible to coerce.
Watching Mona walk away first, Avery reflected, "She seems to have changed a lot from before."
"Well, people grow up and have to become mature. She’s the Powell Family’s young miss; she’s had her fair share of burdens," Bernard thought there was nothing out of the ordinary. Maturity was a good thing.
Avery suddenly thought of Jollie Auclair, that girl, wondering when she’d finally grow up. She felt pity for Jollie’s mother; though she hadn’t spent much time with her, she felt that such a person deserved to have good children.
The two followed suit and entered the restaurant. Neither of them left just because Mona was there. Bernard was candid that way, and so was Avery. Since they had encountered her, there was nothing to avoid.
After all, she hadn’t objected to Bernard introducing her as his girlfriend everywhere.
She still remembered when they came back from Kyoto. Bernard visited her shop, and her staff thought he had come in his capacity as the boss. When Bernard declared he was Avery’s boyfriend and had come to treat them to a meal, all the staff cheered.
