Chapter 101 - 101 101 Visiting Upon Orders
Chapter 101: Chapter 101: Visiting Upon Orders Chapter 101: Chapter 101: Visiting Upon Orders As the Spring Festival draws near, it also marks the peak season of family gatherings for Carolline Ruiz.
Mia Parker took her vacation early, and even though this winter break wouldn’t be too comfortable for her since she has to do an internship, she was lucky enough to find a spot at their City TV Station.
Carolline has many friends, such as her primary schoolmate Lucy Wade, Mia Parker from later years, and college roommates. Even if her best friend is Megan Clifton, Sophie Thompson and Agatha Gage also stayed in touch, and occasionally they would gather for a meal together.
This year’s Spring Festival, Megan Clifton and Andy Aguirre would be coming back, and Andy called Carolline early to make preparations for their arrival, which of course would also include Megan.
Fortunately, Carolline had the help of Avery Graham and the head nurse, allowing her to spare some time from her schedule.
On the contrary, when Bryan Hawkins wanted to invite Carolline out, she was completely out of time. Bryan understood her situation and didn’t want to trouble her.
With only three days left until New Year’s Eve, Bryan Hawkins paid a visit to Henry Ruiz and Emily Hill.
Carolline wasn’t at home as she was on duty since the day after tomorrow, which was the day before New Year’s Eve, Andy and Megan would be returning, and she had to pick them up at the airport and spend the remaining time with them.
“Glad you could make it. What’s with all the gifts?” Emily Hill was cooking lunch at home, and Henry Ruiz was in the living room drinking tea and watching TV. Upon hearing the doorbell, it was only natural for him to greet the guest. Seeing Bryan Hawkins holding several bags, Henry politely said.
“Um, Dr. Ruiz, my grandma asked me to deliver some gifts for the new year,” Bryan replied, putting the responsibility on his grandma.
“Come on in and join us for lunch,” Henry invited, without any politeness. But he didn’t quite agree with Bryan’s small pile of gifts.
Such a large amount of gifts, yet in the eyes of the Hawkins family, it was just a little.
“Alright, I won’t be polite then,” Bryan nodded, not refusing the offer.
“There’s no need to be polite; we’re not being formal with you either,” Henry laughed as Emily came out and personally made a cup of tea for Bryan, placing it on the tea table, “Come, sit with your Uncle Henry and have some tea. We’ll start dinner once Carolline gets off work.”
Emily was pleased to see Bryan, even speculating whether his visit today meant he was going to discuss his relationship with Carolline.
If this were the case, she’d be more than happy to let them cement their bond, and then she could take a look at what Mr. Ruiz and the sisters-in-law had to say.
“Thank you, Auntie,” Bryan said to Emily.
“I’ll go back to cooking; you enjoy your chat,” Emily returned to the kitchen, busying herself again.
Bryan sat in the living room with Henry, and they soon started chatting quite happily. Henry was not the gossiping type, and there were plenty of topics for men to talk about.
Emily found several excuses to come in, either to bring fruit, candy, or to refill their hot water, all in an attempt to hear what Henry and Bryan were discussing.
Learning that they were talking about irrelevant, even so-called national affairs, Emily rolled her eyes. As ordinary citizens, why should they be so interested in national affairs?’
Henry should be discussing Bryan’s views on Carolline and their plans together. Since Bryan had come to visit, it meant that they were dating, right?
If they were a couple, they should start thinking about marriage. Moreover, it seemed that Grandma Hawkins particularly liked Carolline, so when would the two families sit down and finalize their arrangement?
At that time, they could just focus on having children. They were still young, and it would be great to have help raising the kids. Besides, they could always have a second child, right?
Henry understood Emily’s meaning, and when she brought hot water one last time and gave him a warning look, he coughed softly, “You and Carolline…”
Emily went back satisfied, as long as Henry had mentioned it, she could wait for him to tell her what Bryan had said later.
Unexpectedly, though, before Bryan could answer, Carolline arrived home in a rush, bursting through the door, “Mom, Dad, I’m home! Is the food ready? I’m starving!”
Having been busy all morning, without so much as a sip of water or a restroom break, it was only due to the approaching Spring Festival, with everyone eating and drinking to their heart’s content, that Carolline was swamped by hospital visits.
Carolline rushed into the restroom without noticing the unusual scene in the living room. After finishing her business and washing her hands, she was about to dash into the kitchen when she finally noticed the two big men in the living room staring at her in amazement.
Of course, the surprised one was just Bryan Hawkins, as Henry Ruiz was already accustomed to his daughter’s impulsive nature, and he was full of smiles.
Carolline could tell that today’s grin was different from usual.
“Bryan…Big Brother Bryan, what brings you here?” Carolline had gradually become accustomed to addressing him this way after their last encounter in Hawkins Mansion; she even did so during phone calls.
Bryan didn’t say anything. After all, asking her to call him by another name wasn’t appropriate at the moment, and with time, he could be patient.
“At Grandma’s command, I came to pay a visit.” Of course, this was just a cover. If he didn’t want to come, no one could make him.
As for this, Carolline understood him quite well. She grinned and stopped talking. However, she had to work in the afternoon, and he hadn’t sent her a message before he had arrived. If he had, she might have wished to ask for a half-day off for his sake.
After lunch, Emily received a call from her kindergarten sister squad inviting her to go shopping for New Year’s goods, then have dinner together in the evening. Family members were welcome to join the dinner but not the afternoon shopping spree.
So, after finishing lunch, Emily grabbed her purse and left, eager and excited for the shopping trip as it was a woman’s favorite and most passionate activity.
Carolline helped Emily clean up the aftermath, then rested at home for a while before leaving for work ten minutes earlier. Bryan didn’t leave, instead joining Henry Ruiz to go fishing at a nearby pond.
When Carolline got off work in the evening, she returned home, expecting not to see Bryan, only to find that in addition to Bryan’s presence, both her parents weren’t at home.
