Chapter 1000: 018 Should we be together?_2

"..." Looking at Bernard Taylor’s sparkling eyes, Avery Graham’s face suddenly turned red. What she meant was that she was responsible for the money she had invested in him. Where did his mind wander off to? Why was he staring at her like that?

But that was just how Avery wasn’t strong-willed; unable to utter a word with Bernard looking at her like that, she felt her heart pounding fiercely, nearly suffocating. Why did it have to be like this?

Was she sick? In the past, she had never reacted this way in front of Bernard. Recently, these abnormal reactions seemed to be happening more frequently.

Bernard took a step forward, slowly approaching her. Just one step away from Avery, he stopped, bent down, and his head slowly moved towards her. Avery was stunned.

She realized they were too close for comfort, perhaps too close, but at that moment, she didn’t know whether she should step back.

She should step back, yes, she should. Otherwise, the conversation was impossible; she could feel the warm breath from Bernard on the tip of her nose. Perhaps catching his warmth, her cheeks began to heat up.

Her feet felt glued to the floor, unable to move. Avery involuntarily stretched out her hands, intending to push him away slightly, so they could speak properly. But as soon as she raised her hands, Bernard grasped them tightly in his.

"Hey..." Avery had just begun to speak when her lips were suddenly seized in a kiss. Her eyes widened in surprise, and the shock left her mind blank, forgetting what she wanted to say earlier, and more importantly, forgetting something essential—that she should resist.

Avery had raised her voice earlier to remind him that Giselle Browman was also there; she had been in the shower for a while and would come out soon. It wouldn’t be good for Giselle to see them like this, but Bernard’s subsequent actions made her completely forget.

Bernard kissed her gently for a good while, noticing that Avery didn’t resist or show any rejection. Only then did he feel a bit relieved, adjusted his tense breathing, just as he was about to deepen the kiss.

A loud ’clatter’ snapped both Bernard and Avery out of the moment, and they instantly separated. Avery’s face was very red, and so were Bernard’s ears. He hadn’t seen Giselle when he came in, and the sight of Avery’s suitcase on the floor momentarily made him forget that Giselle lived with her.

Looking at Giselle with her wet hair and the home clothes indicating she had just taken a shower and washed clothes, the noise was from the basin of laundry she held.

Giselle was also a bit embarrassed; after all, she hadn’t expected to witness such a scene after her shower. She had asked Avery before, but Avery kept insisting that their relationship wasn’t what she thought. As the days went by, she gradually believed Avery’s claims.

Then, just when she thought Bernard wouldn’t become her brother-in-law anytime soon, she abruptly saw them kissing, so forgive her weak heart for interrupting them.

She was annoyed at her inability to handle the situation better; if she had been stronger, she wouldn’t have disturbed them.

"...Uh, sorry, I didn’t mean to interrupt you, my hand slipped. Really, I didn’t mean to disturb you two... You can continue, hehe, just go on, pretend I’m not here. I’ll just go back to my room now," Giselle awkwardly chuckled, then squatted down in a fluster, hurriedly picking up clothes to take back to her room, with no intention of coming out again.

"...Continue what? The clothes are dirty now; you should wash them again," Avery, regaining composure after a moment, reminded Giselle and adjusted her breathing before turning to look at Bernard, noticing his reddened ears. So he wasn’t as calm as she thought he was, "Um, Bernard, why don’t you go sit in the living room for a bit?"

That was just how Giselle did laundry; the water in the basin was never fully emptied. When it fell to the floor, water splashed everywhere. Avery went to the Health Room to get a mop and cleaned up the wet floor, then wiped the bathroom tiles as well. This was why she usually showered after Giselle; she was the one who always did these cleanup chores, which Giselle never bothered with.
