Chapter 170: Chapter 170 Full of Love for You
Ryan Walyon couldn’t quite tell if Summer Sutton genuinely meant what she said earlier, or if it was just for appearances in front of others.
The car fell into silence for a moment.
Neither of them spoke another word.
Upon arriving at the Walyon Family’s home, Adrian Walyon’s car happened to pull in as well.
Seeing Summer Sutton and Ryan Walyon getting out of the car together, he was momentarily stunned.
"I bumped into Summer on the road and figured you’d be coming home tonight, so I brought her along," Ryan explained first.
Adrian didn’t ask much, but simply pulled Summer to his side, and said flatly, "Next time, just call me. Don’t trouble others."
"Okay," Summer replied to him softly.
"Let’s go!" The two of them entered the garden together.
Tonight was the Lantern Festival, and there was a strong festive atmosphere at the Walyon family’s dinner.
With the Old Master still around, the Walyon family placed great importance on these traditional things. Every traditional festival was to be celebrated properly, family members had to gather, and certain traditional rules had to be followed.
After Adrian and Summer returned, they had dinner with the whole family. Later, Summer went to the lakeside in the garden with Sophie to set off floating lanterns.
The lake at the Walyon family was man-made. During the summer, it brimmed with lotuses. It was specially created years ago by Adrian’s father for Diana Wood. It had always served as a landscape feature at the Walyon’s.
Having just married into the Walyon family, how could Summer know so much?
The expansive pool was soon filled with the lanterns set by her and Sophie.
They set at least five hundred lanterns, and it would probably take a long time to clean it all up.
Sophie played happily. Seeing the lake full of lanterns, she even clapped her small hands, "I feel so accomplished!"
Summer wanted to say she felt the same.
Before she could say anything, Diana Wood’s scolding voice suddenly came through, "What are you two doing?"
"Oh dear! What have you turned my pool into?" She ran over, almost in tears seeing the lake brimming with lanterns.
Summer had already gotten into trouble once before, and she didn’t expect to mess up again.
A bit embarrassed, she nudged Sophie beside her, hoping he’d think of something.
Sophie, being a clever kid, clasped his hands behind his back and approached Diana, starting to make things up, "Mom, you know we were actually making wishes for you. Floating lanterns can bring blessings, right? This sea of lanterns is filled with my and sis-in-law’s love for you, wishing you health and eternal youth."
He had a way with words, improvising brilliantly.
Summer was surprised that the child knew so much, looking at him with admiration.
Sophie winked at her, patting his chest, reassuring her that he had everything under control.
Diana evidently bought his story, falling for his charm, "Really?"
"Of course it’s true. I am your child after all. If I don’t wish you well, who should I wish well?" Sophie continued weaving his tale.
"Makes sense." Diana stood up, tidying her attire, and cast a sidelong glance at Summer, "At least you both had good intentions."
With a faint huff, she turned and walked away.
Summer’s crisis was deftly averted by a few of Sophie’s clever words.
Just as Diana left, Adrian suddenly appeared in front of the two of them.
He patted Sophie on the shoulder, showing his appreciation, "Kid, nicely done!"
Sophie was quite proud, assuming the praise was for his cleverness.
Little did he know, Adrian continued with, "You did a good job of looking out for your sister-in-law."
The smile Sophie was about to flash suddenly fell.
Adrian’s commendation was solely for defending Summer once!
