Chapter 169: Chapter 169: Walk Well With Him
But after taking them, she realized, since they were already married, her phone should have some of his photos.
Not having a single photo of each other — if outsiders knew this, their marriage might not even hold up as a facade, right?
...
The two didn’t linger long on the mountain. Shortly after getting up, Adrian took Summer Sutton down the mountain.
Back in the city, Adrian went to the company, and Summer went to Ariella Sawyer’s for a part-time job.
Accompanying Ariella for a show recording and attending events, she was busy all day. When it was time to leave work, she was going to take a cab home but unexpectedly ran into someone — Ryan Walyon.
While Summer was waiting by the roadside, Ryan’s car passed by.
Seeing her, his car stopped.
"Just finished work?" he asked, lowering the car window.
"Yeah, just got off," Summer said.
"Hop in, I’ll give you a ride," Ryan opened the car door, inviting her.
Summer stared at his car in a daze, standing still.
"No need, I’ll have Adrian pick me up," she politely declined, pulling at the corners of her mouth.
"Adrian will have dinner at the family home tonight, you should join. I’m heading there now, it’s on the way," Ryan said.
"Oh, I see!" Summer was slightly taken aback.
"Get in," Ryan called out to her again.
Thinking about Adrian returning to the Walyon family mansion, Summer hesitated, then bent over and got into Ryan’s car.
Ryan waited for her to settle in before slowly starting the engine.
Summer isn’t someone who easily becomes comfortable with others. It took her a long time just to get used to Adrian’s presence.
Being alone with Ryan, neither of them spoke a word.
After driving some distance, it was Ryan who initiated the conversation.
"Since joining the Walyon family, are you adjusting well?"
"It’s going okay," Summer said truthfully.
In truth, there wasn’t much to adjust to. She married Adrian, so she only needed to adapt to him; they had lived together for several months even before the wedding.
"The family has many rules, especially for Adrian’s wife, the expectations are higher," Ryan seemed a bit reflective as he mentioned the Walyon family.
"Really?" Summer was somewhat surprised by this.
"You’ll find out later," Ryan shifted the topic, "When you married Adrian, you hadn’t known each other for long, right?"
"Yeah!" Summer answered honestly.
But as soon as she said it, she felt she might have been too candid.
"You and Adrian didn’t love each other before you married, did you?" Ryan asked again.
This time, Summer remained silent.
She’s not good at lying, and when she doesn’t know how to answer, she simply doesn’t.
Ryan curled his lips into a slight smile.
Actually, Summer didn’t need to say it; he knew the answer.
Two people who married not long after meeting, how could their marriage have started with love?
In the brief silence inside the car, Ryan suddenly asked, "Since you didn’t love him, why marry Adrian?"
Summer was startled, clearly not expecting his sharp intuition to see through everything.
Unsure of the best way to respond, she remained silent for a long while, then lifted her face to look at him, her expression calm, "Not loving before doesn’t mean we won’t in the future. He’s a good man, and we are good together. Since we are married, we will do well and move forward together!"
Ryan seemed a bit surprised by her words, slowing down the car as her words softly echoed in his ears.
She and he will do well and move forward together...
