Chapter 480: Fulfilling the Promise
Chapter 480: Chapter 480: Fulfilling the Promise
Hospital, Christopher’s office.
"Miss Fitch, the elderly lady’s body is fine, just some muscle strain, no bone damage, more rest will do." Christopher reviewed the scans, confirming once again that Snow’s aunt was robust without any organic disease, his voice and expression always gentle.
Snow stared at him, dazed, her eyes fixed and unmoving, naturally missing what he said.
She had never seen anyone wear a plain white coat so dazzlingly, his upright shoulders and back in the half-golden sunlight exuding an aura of aristocratic aloofness, as if sacredly untouchable. Yet when he looked up, his expression was so gentle, his elegance captivating, and at the same time, approachable.
"Miss Fitch, Miss Fitch?" Christopher noticed her unresponsive like in a trance, calling her name twice.
But still failed to wake her up.
Instead, her aunt unceremoniously nudged her, "Little Snow, you’re drooling."
"Huh?" Snow snapped back to reality, quickly touching her mouth, "Dro... drooling?"
She clumsily checked herself over, then turned to look at her aunt, immediately realizing she’d been tricked.
"Aunt! Why did you do that!"
Her aunt glanced at her, then turned to Christopher, smiling and speaking astonishing words, "Mr. Smith, my niece here clearly likes you, I don’t believe you can’t see it—what do you say, you might as well give an answ... mmmmmm—"
Before her aunt could finish, Snow was so frightened she almost jumped up, quickly bending down and covering her aunt’s mouth with her hand, blushing ear to ear, "Doctor... Doctor Smith, thank you, we’ll be leaving now, we’re leaving..."
Christopher watched the scene, chuckled, shook his head, his long fingers slightly moving, the mouse clicking to the next number.
Before the next patient came in, Assistant Little Carter teased, "Director Smith, the hospital director should award you a ’Special Contribution Award’."
Christopher looked at him, seemingly puzzled.
Little Carter explained, "Every day three to five female patients come here for your looks and charm! Especially Miss Fitch, she’s almost worn out the threshold of our department."
The registration fee, medical fee, cost of scans—haven’t they brought the hospital quite a bit of revenue?
Before Christopher could reply, the next patient came in, and the conversation stopped.
After seeing this patient, he stood up, went to the back washstand to wash his hands, and took out his phone.
Finding Snow’s WhatsApp, he sent a message: Miss Fitch, are you free this afternoon?
On the other side, Snow had just reached the parking lot and got in the car, screamed "Ah" upon seeing the WhatsApp message.
Her aunt, who had just sat down in the back, was startled, quickly clutching her chest, "You crazy girl! You’re going to give your aunt a heart attack!"
Snow ignored her aunt’s complaints, focused on the phone screen, and replied: Yes, yes, what do you need?
Christopher saw her quick reply, smiled: I wouldn’t dare ask for advice, just a little favor.
Seeing the man of her dreams being so polite, Snow clutched her phone in an excited frenzy, nearly going mad.
Her aunt glanced twice from the back, silently took out her phone, recorded her niece’s ecstatic expression, and sent it to her sister.
After the manic joy, Snow forced herself to calm down, nervously typing on the screen: Just say it directly, no need to be so formal! You’ve helped my family with so many medical issues, I don’t know how to thank you enough.
Christopher: It’s my duty.
Snow: What do you need me to do?
Christopher: Can you help arrange a meeting with Clarke Norton for me?
Clarke Norton...
Upon seeing this name, Snow was first stunned, then remembered this was her best friend’s current identity, her face suddenly stiffened, her heart... indescribable feelings.
So he’d out of the blue contact her, only because of someone else...
It seems her sixth sense was right, Doctor Smith does have feelings for Amelia.
Christopher sent the message, not seeing a response for a while, thinking she might be driving and inconvenient, he didn’t mind, and continued with the next patient.
Snow sat dumbfounded for a while, quietly incredulous. Her aunt, noticing something wrong, leaned forward to ask, "Little Snow, what’s wrong?"
Only then did Snow come to her senses, wanting to refuse outright and block him from contacting her again, but ultimately lacked the nerve, and deeply sighed as she replied: Sure, when?
After sending the message and waiting for a long time without a reply, guessing he was busy again, she was about to start the car and leave when her phone dinged.
Christopher: As soon as possible, can you make it this afternoon?
This afternoon?
What could be so urgent?
She thought for a moment: I’ll ask her, she might not have time.
Christopher: Alright, but don’t say I arranged it, otherwise she’ll refuse.
Snow was a little confused, what’s this about?
Wasn’t Amelia deeply grateful to the Smith family father and son? How did it become so hard to meet now?
On second thought, it might be related to the recent online scandals.
Amelia must be distancing herself from them to avoid suspicion.
She originally wanted to advise Christopher, that if Amelia didn’t want to meet, they shouldn’t force it, but thinking he seldom requested her help—she ultimately couldn’t refuse her ideal man, even knowing he had no feelings for her.
Aunt waited and waited, seeing no driving, asked again: "Little Snow, what’s wrong? Let’s head back, I still have to watch your sister’s kids."
"Oh, oh." Only then did Snow remember her aunt in the back seat, quickly got out of the car, opened the back door, "Aunt, I have something to do and won’t go back for now, I’ll get you a rideshare, it will definitely take you home safely, okay?"
Her aunt hadn’t snapped back to reality, gently pulled from the car by her arm.
"You child... Are you playing with me!"
Snow put on a smile, linking arms with her aunt as they walked out of the hospital, ordering a private car with her phone.
"Little Snow, you like that Doctor Smith, right? If you like him, just confess, such an outstanding young man, he’ll be snatched away in no time."
"Hey, I like them, but they might not like me."
"So you confessed and got rejected? Want aunt to step in? Aunt can give..."
"No need, no need, there are plenty of fish in the sea, can’t just be infatuated with one flower."
"You child, how can you treat feelings like this..."
"Aunt, the car’s here! Hurry, get in."
Snow’s heart was already bleeding, and seeing Aunt Harper mention Doctor Smith in every sentence made her even more forlorn and melancholic, so she quickly hurried Aunt Harper away.
When she got back to the parking lot, she directly called Amelia.
She thought Amelia’s phone was still off, but surprisingly, it went through this time.
"Hello, Snow..."
"Your phone’s finally on?" she asked in surprise.
"Yes, but there are still annoying calls coming in, it’s quite irritating." On her way home, Amelia continued to receive several strange calls and upon answering, people would start yelling insults, calling her promiscuous and accusing her of having affairs with old men, in vile and unbearable language.
"There are too many lunatics in this world, just ignore them."
"Right. Why did you call me?"
"Well..." Snow cleared her throat, feeling a bit guilty about deceiving her friend, "it’s just... what I mentioned before, I want to pursue Doctor Smith, but don’t know where to start. Can you give me some advice?"
Amelia hadn’t been home long and had just sat down, her mind not at rest, and upon hearing this, she didn’t know how to respond.
"Come on... you’re free now, let’s meet up."
"I just got home after dropping the kids off."
"Exactly, the three little ones aren’t at home, what are you doing just staring at Christopher? Isn’t it tiring? So much has happened these days, and you haven’t had time to talk to me properly."
"I..."
"That’s settled then, I’ll think of a place and send you the address."
Worried she might refuse, Snow decisively hung up.
Amelia glanced at the living room clock, it was just past nine in the morning.
Originally, she planned to give Aunt Harper a day off today, cook herself, take care of the patient, bring the kids out in the evening, and enjoy a happy moment with the family of five, but it seemed... those plans had to be canceled.
Pushing the door open to Mr. Hart still busy with stock trading at the bedside, seeing her holding the phone hesitantly made him quickly understand: "Going out?"
"Yes, Snow invited me."
Mr. Hart frowned, "Why does she have so much free time?"
"Probably... because she’s single."
These days, middle-aged mothers are all busy raising children, pressuring them, working overtime to make money, no time to meet friends.
Only the single aristocrats have time to themselves.
"Doesn’t she like that pretty boy?" Mr. Hart said with a strange tone.
"That’s why she’s asking me to meet up to discuss some plans."
Christopher Hart isn’t the type to restrict her freedom but is concerned about her safety: "Where are you going? In case there’s a crowd and you’re recognized..."
While speaking, her phone chimed.
She picked it up for a look, and it was the location Snow sent.
It was... the Wellness Valley?
[Come early, we’ll have a relaxing spa session, then head upstairs for a meal. Rest assured, this place is expensive and private, no one will notice you.]
Snow’s consideration was quite thorough.
Christopher Hart had nothing more to say, just advised: "Come back early, call me if there’s any issue."
"Okay." She smiled, stepping to the bedside, and the man looked up, their gazes meeting warmly.
Christopher Hart gently curled his lips, smiling softly: "Wait a moment."
"Wait for what?"
She asked, looking at his unfathomable face.
He didn’t answer, only glancing at the phone in her hand with his eyes.
Then, the phone chimed again.
This time it was a message notification, not WhatsApp.
Amelia looked down, opened it up, and found it was a bank message notification, her eyes widening as she stared.
"Online banking has a limit, so I’ll first send you this amount. Later I’ll ask Lucas to go to the counter for a transfer, and I’ll give you more money."
Amelia glanced at the zeros, surprised and asked: "Two million? Where did you get so much money?"
Mr. Hart laughed, "Two million is considered a lot? Sigh... well, I almost went broke, so nowadays two million seems quite a lot."
"You haven’t told me, where did the money come from."
"Cashed in stocks."
"But... doesn’t it need to be repaid?"
"Yes, so the amount I can give you is limited for now, use this for now."
Amelia frowned, just about to speak but he interrupted: "Relax, the company’s situation has stabilized, it’ll soon recover. Several projects are already at the acceptance phase, funds will roll back in next month. Soon, we’ll be able to buy the courtyard house back."
