Chapter 25 These were all my late wife’s favorites

Chapter 25: Chapter 25 These were all my late wife’s favorites

Both could hear each other’s breathing, and in an instant, their hearts were thrown into chaos.

Perhaps due to the pain, the man’s breaths were heavy, each one deep and panting like a wild beast.

Amelia suddenly thought back to the three years of marital life, where during intimate moments, his heavy breathing around her ears, like a firing dragon, would drive her mind into disarray and turn her senses upside down...

As Christopher sniffed the sweet fragrance at the tip of his nose from the woman, he found it both familiar and yet slightly strange.

It was familiar because their heartbeats synchronized, a sensation that had lingered in his life for three years, unforgettable and profound.

It was strange because—although the fragrance at the tip of his nose was enchanting, it was not the scent of the woman he remembered.

A person’s body scent couldn’t change, could it?

So, was it really her?

In the suffocating silence, Amelia dared not move, even controlling her breath cautiously, afraid that a slight increase in volume would have her lips brushing against his.

Her eyes darted around in panic.

"You dare to assault me? You’ve got guts! Are you called Clarke Norton, right? Fine, from today on, between us..."

"Daddy, Mommy, what are you doing?" The voice of a little girl suddenly came, startling them both as they hurriedly turned to look.

In the next second, Amelia quickly pushed away that wall of flesh, forcing a smile, "It’s nothing... Hope, why are you out of bed?"

She walked towards the little girl, asking gently.

The family doctor followed behind the child, explaining, "Hope got out of bed to go to the bathroom, didn’t see you, and was afraid you had left; she insisted on coming out to check..."

"Mommy, let’s go! I want you to stay with me, tell me a story, the story of Princess Elsa."

Before the doctor could finish explaining, Hope stepped forward, grabbed Amelia’s arm, and dragged her towards the bedroom.

Amelia, having been manipulated by Christopher just now, was inwardly anxious, wishing she could disappear immediately; yet the stubborn child was pulling her towards the bedroom, putting her in a difficult position.

"Hope... it’s too late, Mommy still has things to do and needs to go back, can I come to stay with you tomorrow instead?"

"No, I’m sick, Mommy can’t leave, or else I won’t take my medicine or eat, hmph!"

Amelia was taken aback and laughed, "You little trickster, who did you learn that from? Now you know how to blackmail people too."

Christopher watched the woman being dragged back into the room by her daughter; he composed his face, then turned to order the kitchen to bring up dinner.

Seeing the cart brimming with a lavish dinner, Amelia suddenly remembered she hadn’t eaten dinner yet; her stomach rumbled audibly.

Hope, with sharp ears, immediately laughed, "Mommy’s tummy is singing!"

Christopher stood by, and the woman felt extremely awkward, smiling as she flicked Hope’s little nose.

"Haven’t you had dinner?" the man’s voice rose.

Amelia pretended not to hear.

She was still in the throes of anger from the overly intimate and excessive behavior from earlier.

"I’ll have the kitchen send up more food." He turned to leave.

"No need! Once Hope has finished eating, I’ll leave. I’ll eat when I get home," she refused coldly.

The man paused, turned back to look at his daughter, "Hear that, baby? Your mommy is leaving."

"Um... No way!" The little girl clung to Amelia’s arm and even pulled her closer into her embrace, "Mommy, stay with me tonight, sleep with me, you can’t go anywhere!"

Amelia clenched her teeth in secret, shaking with fury yet maintaining a smile on her face, "Baby, what would you like to eat? I’ll feed you."

Hope Hart, delighted, said, "I want to drink millet porridge, eggs, but no yolk, and also mushrooms and ham slices."

Joy invigorates the spirit—a saying that truly fits children.

The usually listless Hope seemed suddenly cured, her appetite returning.

Aunt Harper brought in the meal, placing it to one side, "Madam, you should have some dinner too, don’t starve yourself."

Amelia turned back, "My last name is Norton."

Aunt Harper turned to look at the tall, handsome man and nervously smiled, "Miss Norton, please enjoy your meal."

Amelia glanced back at the dinner placed near her, not knowing if it was intentional or not, all those dishes happened to be ones she couldn’t eat.

She was allergic to shrimp, she disliked lamb, and she hated onions and garlic—yet the piece of fish was specifically topped with shredded onions and minced garlic.

If this was intentional, then it only proved this bastard was incredibly cruel!

Seeing her glance and then avert her eyes, Christopher murmured, "What’s the matter, Miss Norton, this isn’t to your taste?"

"..."

"Then you really have the opposite taste to my late wife; she loved all of these."

"!!!"

A million curses raced through Amelia’s mind.

They had grown up together, childhood sweethearts, even though they had fallen out due to many misunderstandings and turned love into hatred, they still knew each other’s preferences and tastes.

When had this guy acquired such a talent for speaking blantant lies?

While she was quietly seething with rage, she remembered the last time he slandered her as "old-fashioned, bad-tempered, and having body odor"—the more she thought about it, the angrier she got, wishing she could rush up and dump the porridge in her hand on his head!

As Christopher saw her deflate, he felt secretly thrilled and casually sat down by the bed.

"The shrimp is very tender, Miss Norton, why don’t you try it?"

"..."

"The lamb is very nourishing, suitable for a woman."

"..."

"As for the fish—"

"Dad, you’re so annoying! Didn’t you teach me ’do not talk when eating, do not talk when sleeping’? Have you forgotten?" Before Amelia could be ignited by President Hart’s continued provocations, her own daughter suddenly doused him with cold water.

With a snort, Amelia couldn’t help but burst out laughing in her anger, nearly spilling the porridge she was holding.

Mr. Hart’s handsome face darkened, his words stuck in his throat as he looked at his daughter’s naïve and confused eyes, thinking to himself that she really was a warm little presence albeit a little leaky!

"Fool, Dad is just trying to look out for you, understand!" If he could prove this was her real mother, she would have a mother in the future.

Suppressing a smile, Amelia deliberately incited, "Baby, your dad is too fierce. If you hadn’t shown up in time, Mommy would have been bullied."

Hope frowned slightly, then angrily put her hands on her hips, "Dad! How could you do this! I finally found Mommy!"

Christopher looked at the woman, his expression rather playful, "Hope, there are many things between adults that can’t be called bullying, you’re still young—"

"I don’t care! I saw it with my own eyes, you cornered Mommy against the wall! Humph, you go out, I don’t want to see you anymore!"

As Hope was pushing her own father out of the door, she also comforted Amelia, "Mommy, don’t worry, I’ll protect you!"

"Mmm, thank you, Baby Hope, come...have another bite."

"Ow..." The little girl graciously opened her mouth and swallowed a big mouthful.

Seeing her dad still lingering, she glared at him, pursing her lips, her commanding little attitude was downright adorable.

Christopher glanced at the triumphant woman, his sexy lips curved into a smile, and he turned to leave.

Amelia finally let out a sigh of relief.

After feeding the child, and looking at the dinner, she frowned and picked at some lamb and fish, then when Hope wasn’t looking, she picked out some shrimp and flushed it down the toilet—creating the illusion that it was all eaten.

Later, as Christopher watched Aunt Harper clear away the leftover food, his brow furrowed again.

He asked his daughter, and she said, "Mommy ate all that, she even said it was delicious."

From then on, President Hart’s mind was shrouded in fog once again.

He remembered very well that Amelia was allergic to shrimp, couldn’t stand the smell of lamb, and especially hated onions, garlic, and other seasonings.

But this woman actually ate it all?
