Scum Daddy Dreams Of Stealing My Mommy!
Chapter 245: Dementia or Cerebral Palsy

Chapter 245: Chapter 245: Dementia or Cerebral Palsy

Amelia Garcia, with unkempt hair and an unwashed face, teeth unbrushed, immediately rushed downstairs with her son.

Looking through the glass, she saw that Christopher Hart was surrounded by a team of medical experts. Although they all wore masks, it was apparent that their expressions were far from relaxed.

Amelia’s heart was in turmoil. She turned to Benny Palmer, "What exactly is going on? Did he wake up, or..."

Benny explained, "I heard that when a nurse was changing his medication, she saw his hand move."

His hand moved?

Does that mean he’s about to wake up?

"But the doctors have been in there a long time, and they haven’t come out. It looks like it might have...." Benny’s voice trailed off, leaving the words unspoken, but Amelia understood.

The situation seemed still not promising, and it was even possible... that it might be the calm before the storm.

The Hart family members were nowhere to be seen, either having gone back home or to find a place to rest.

After some deliberation, Amelia spoke to the nurse, pleading for permission.

Following a consultation with the medical experts inside, the nurse approved once more that she and her child could enter the Intensive Care Unit.

Different from the profound sadness of the night before, this time, her heart was filled with intense hope.

"Christopher..." Sitting by the bed, she gently grasped the man’s hand with a slight tremble in her voice, soft and soothing, "Christopher can you hear me?"

"I’m Amelia... You’ve been in a coma for nearly two days now, everyone is very worried about you. If you can hear me speaking, please give me a sign, will you?"

"I know... you are very weak right now, you might not even be able to open your eyes, but you can move your finger, or... frown, anything at all, just give us some sign to let us know you’re still here..."

"Will you do that?"

After she finished speaking, her eyes moved to the broad palm she was holding, staring at it eagerly, anxiously, and with anticipation.

Noah, seeing his mother about to cry again, was distressed and hurriedly stepped forward, "Dad... Please wake up, mom has cried so many times already."

"And also, your family, they are so mean! While you’ve been in a coma, they’ve been bullying mom and even said they want to take me and my brother away, to separate us from mom!"

"Dad, if you don’t wake up, my brother and I will soon lose our mom..."

The medical experts who had not yet left, upon hearing the woman and child’s words, though they were all grown men, had redness welling up in their eyes.

It was often said that the wealthy lacked affection, but it was rare to find a man of such wealthy background to be so deeply devoted. Yet, fate saw fit to put him through this life and death ordeal, which was truly heartbreaking.

After the woman and child spoke, their three hands clasped together, they wept silently.

The group of medical experts sighed internally. One of them looked at his colleagues and caught their eye, signaling for them to leave first, giving the family some space.

Understanding the situation without words being spoken, they all turned to walk out.

Amelia watched with earnest hope, but after a long wait, the comatose man still had no reaction, lifelessly still.

"Christopher! How long do you plan to sleep? Don’t blame me for being blunt, but if your parents really dare to fight with me over the kids, I can only take them and run far away, never to return! If the Hart family ends up with no heirs, don’t blame me!"

In these few days, sadness, anxiety, irritation, and fear had intertwined, already pressing down on her until she was out of breath.

Now, having gained hope only to be disappointed, the emptiness inside her was indescribable. She couldn’t help but blurt out her grievances.

A young nurse adjusting the infusion saw her and wanted to remind her of something but found it difficult to speak.

This kind of anguish, happening to anyone, would cause them to lose their composure, their rationality.

After shouting out, Amelia saw the nurse glance her way and immediately felt embarrassed, her face turning red.

There were other patients in the ICU, and allowing them to visit was already an exception. Her loud exclamations... could disturb the other patients...

Being at a loss of what to do in embarrassment, Noah suddenly exclaimed, "Dad moved!"

Amelia was startled, looked at the man, and her eyes suddenly widened, "Where?"

She checked the man’s hand, then his face...

But there was no sign of movement.

Noah, getting agitated, stomped his foot, "He really moved! Dad’s hand, just now... did this, did this," the little fellow took out his own hand, bending his fingers to demonstrate.

Believing in her son’s eyes, Amelia immediately turned to the doctors, who had reached the door by now, "Doctor, my son said he moved again, quickly come and check!"

In fact, when Noah shouted that sentence, the doctors had already heard him and turned back.

The mother and son were asked to step aside, and the doctors gathered around for another thorough and careful examination.

But the result was still the same as before...

"Doctor, can he hear us talking?" Amelia asked, excited.

"Perhaps. We’ve seen cases like this before, where the patient hasn’t woken up, yet when they hear their relatives call, they tear up and show reactions," the doctor explained.

The woman excitedly looked at her son, encouraging him, "Noah, talk to your dad again, he can surely hear you."

"Okay!"

Noah squeezed to the head of the bed, and patiently called into the man’s ear, "Dad, Dad... I want you to get better fast, I want to play ’up high,’ fly on a plane, we don’t want to be separated from mom."

The doctor looked at the heart rate fluctuations on the monitor and exclaimed in surprise, "The patient really is responding!"

Amelia stood on the periphery, hearing the doctor’s words and also witnessing the heart rate changes on the screen, couldn’t help but be overwhelmed with tears.

He could hear the sounds from the outside world, at least that meant things were improving, right?

At least... he wouldn’t die, right?

As long as he was alive, there was still hope, even if he became a vegetable, there was still a chance for him to wake up and recover.

In the corridor outside, the Hart family rushed over upon hearing the news.

Seeing Amelia with the child inside, Emma immediately protested.

The nurse came in, distressed, "Director, Old Lady Hart insists on coming inside, and we can’t hold her back."

"Nonsense!" The director scolded and instructed his colleague to continue checking on Christopher before turning to deal with the situation.

Amelia looked outside, then back at the man on the bed who still hadn’t awakened, thought for a moment, and took her son’s hand, "Let’s go, Noah, we should leave and let the doctors focus on helping Daddy."

"Okay!"

Just as the mother and son were leaving, Emma asked angrily, "Who gave you permission to see my son? Don’t forget who you are! You’re already divorced! I suggest you send the kids back here quickly and take that girl away, far away!"

Amelia had wanted to walk away without conflict, but restraining herself, she suddenly turned around and sneered back, "Old Lady Hart, aren’t you supposed to be the matriarch of a distinguished family, a lady of high society? How come you behave like a common shrew all the time? Where is your status, your cultivation, your lofty presence?"

"You – who are you calling a shrew?!"

"Take a look in the mirror and see for yourself if your current behavior is any different from that of a shrew."

Emma, red-faced with anger, pointed a finger at her and raised her hand as if to slap Amelia.

Fortunately, George pulled her back.

"Enough! Our son’s condition is what’s important, why are you arguing with her!"

Emma raged, "She is a curse! As long as she doesn’t leave your son, our family will never have peace, don’t you get it?!"

Amelia added fuel to the fire, "It seems to me... the person stirring up endless trouble for the Hart family is you."

"You—" Emma was once again speechlessly furious, her vicious eyes scanning over and finally settling on Noah.

"George! What are you waiting for? Go grab that child back! Kick this woman out! I don’t want to see her ever again!" Emma suddenly pushed her husband forward, ordering him to snatch the child.

Benny stood to one side, trying to interject and calm things down to no avail.

Seeing the Hart elders really trying to take the child, he quickly stepped in front of Amelia and her son, "Aunt, please don’t be rash! Caring about Christopher is the most important thing right now, let’s leave the rest for later, okay?"

"Luke, this is none of your business, go back to work!"

"Aunt, you –"

Before Benny could finish speaking, an infuriated Emma, seeing her husband not moving, took matters into her own hands and moved to take Noah away.

Naturally, Noah wasn’t willing, struggling and resisting while hitting her, and Amelia also held her son tightly, the two sides had really started to fight over the child.

As the scene descended into chaos, a cry of alarm came from the ICU, "Mr. Hart has awakened! He really has opened his eyes!"

Everyone was startled, hardly able to believe it.

Emma froze for a second, then snapped to her senses and hurriedly let go of Noah to rush into the intensive care unit, but the nurse timely stopped her.

Amelia’s heart raced, holding her frightened son and consoling him repeatedly, sitting aside but not moving any closer.

As long as he was awake, she wasn’t worried about anything else, whether she saw him or not was secondary.

"Mama... I don’t like Daddy’s mama..." Noah said with a look of fear and aggrievement, trembling.

Seeing her son, Amelia felt an intense pain in her heart, kissed his forehead again and again, "Mama knows... it’s okay not to like her, don’t worry... Mama will protect you, no one can separate us!"

"Yeah!"

In the hospital room, the medical team once again checked on Christopher, who had opened his eyes and awakened.

But the vital signs were still unstable, the situation was still bad, although it was a fact he had awakened.

However, even though he was awake, his responses were very sluggish, he didn’t reply to the most basic questions asked by the medical staff, such as his name, age, gender.

His eyes were just open, staring blankly at the ceiling, like the walking dead.

After the examination was finished, the doctors exchanged opinions, each with a solemn expression, shaking their heads.

In the outer corridor, upon seeing the doctor come out, George immediately approached, "Director, how is my son? He’s awake now, does that mean he’s okay?"

The director spoke seriously, "Based on the examination just now, we’ve determined that he’s not fully awake—it seems he’s still in a semi-comatose state, so he’s unresponsive to any questions, but he is indeed aware of the outside world."

What?

Everyone’s hearts, just heated with excitement, cooled down in an instant.

The doctor hesitated, "There’s another possibility..."

"What is it?"

"Considering the patient has taken a heavy blow to the head, we can’t rule out the possibility of brainstem or cranial nerve damage which has resulted from organic injuries, the most severe consequence... the patient may wake up, but... there’s a high probability of dementia or cerebral palsy, with intelligence and cognitive levels dropping back to that of a child."
