Chapter 747: Chapter 534 “The Weeping Psychotic Madman”_2 Chapter 747: Chapter 534 “The Weeping Psychotic Madman”_2 ‘Every three levels…’
Muttering to himself, Colin remembered that many things in the company were similar.
“Don’t you guys remember the staircase from the last time you were here?” Colin asked. The hospital, possibly orchestrated by ‘Bonfire Company,’ was immensely large. Searching building by building, who knows when they would find what they were looking for.
Upon hearing this, the Ashen Holy Body on the side shook his head: “We remember, but it doesn’t help much. We’ve only been here two or three times, and its location changes each time. The first time we came, it was the oncology department on the seventh floor of the fifth building; the second time, it became the gastroenterology department in the thirty-first building, and it changed the following two times too…”
“Yeah, right, we also encountered it in two different locations,” echoed Orange Cat. After a pause, he continued, “But no matter what, we will definitely find it. After all, it doesn’t move. The real trouble will be later when we search for the ‘stairs’ on the fourth floor…
“It moves and can appear anywhere, possibly behind the door of some ward or behind a bathroom door, particularly hard to find…”
It wasn’t their first time there; just knowing about the “stairs” key point had taken a considerable amount of time…
“Is that so.”
Colin nodded, said little, and continued with the mission.
This time, with the search area expanded, the speed of the search noticeably slowed down.
‘It’s a pity I can’t use ‘Bonfire’ to observe it; I can only find it with the naked eye. Otherwise, if I just sent out a bunch of flames, the speed could be greatly accelerated…’
Colin heaved a sigh inwardly.
The mission didn’t specify a time limit, but there were only two days left for the overall Fifteenth Ring mission, so it could be assumed that the time limit was two days…
If it wasn’t completed by then, the mission might be in vain, or, given a high score on previous missions, they might receive one chance to correct the failure.
But either way, it’s better to finish it if possible.
The good news was that they were only on the second floor, and the number of anomalies wasn’t high, only a female employee in the outpatient hall suspected of becoming part of an anomaly, and some special black spots.
So there wasn’t too much to worry about in terms of safety…
About an hour later, after roaming nearly a quarter of the hospital’s corridors, Colin and the others finally found the special anomalous staircase in an area marked Building G Inpatient Department.
Compared to the second floor, there were even more of those dark, black patches on it now.
And it looked more and more like the mold spots on the walls at home during the rainy season, giving off a musty smell…
Fortunately, the trouble was still not very big.
Colin left a Bonfire, then covered everyone with flames and continued to lead the team upstairs. In just a few minutes, they smoothly reached the third floor area.
The place they emerged was still the inpatient department building…
But compared to the previous level, the whole world had become even harder to describe, as if there was some indescribable sense of oppression.
“Let’s go back to the outpatient hall first and see if there’s any change in that rule…”
Just as Colin made this decision, his words were interrupted by the Ashen Holy Body, who suddenly exclaimed, “Holy shit,” apparently seeing something.
He and Orange Cat looked in the direction he was gazing, and saw that he was looking towards a balcony window of a neighboring inpatient building…
Where there should have been a two-person hospital room behind the window, there was now a dark, deep staircase leading downwards.
“Holy shit, it’s the staircase to the fourth floor!” Orange Cat also exclaimed upon seeing it.
Compared to their surprise, Colin couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow:
“This convenient?”
“Really lucky, we just happened upon it! It won’t be this easy to find in a bit!”
While they were talking, the strange corridor inside the room began to fade…
It seemed it wouldn’t be long before it disappeared altogether.
“Go!”
After hesitating for a moment, Colin took out a piece of ‘kindling’ from his pocket, which he had prepared in advance, and lit it on this floor. Then he grabbed the other two, pulling them with him as he shot out like a bullet, crossing the distance between the two buildings in less than half a second and directly entering the passage to the fourth floor.
No sooner had he stepped on the staircase than he felt like he was entering another space, the temperature dropping to a chill and becoming stuffy.
The air was filled with the foul stench of rotting protein…
‘The rules usually detail the content of this floor; having only crossed one level, I shouldn’t miss any key information.’
Colin looked back and saw that the way they had come was already shrouded with a gloomy haze.
“If you want to go back now, passing through this fog will take you straight back to the first floor. If you don’t go through, after a while it will turn into a closed road, and then we can only return by completing the mission,” explained the Ashen Holy Body, continuing with the “information” that exploded in his brain like a triggered landmine, “this staircase goes straight down, and you’ll reach the fourth floor after a certain distance, probably over a hundred turns…”
“Any dangers?” Colin asked casually.
“Just watch out for those shadowy spots. After the fourth floor, we might encounter some anomalies that aren’t too dangerous. For now, there’s…”
“Let’s get to it, then.”
Colin waved his hand, still letting a fireball scout ahead while he and the others followed.
Starting from the fourth floor, the shadowy blotches on the ground began to appear somewhat three-dimensional, and eerily started to move ever so slightly. It seemed the deeper they went floor by floor, the closer they got to its true nature.
However, Colin tried to burn them with flames, but still couldn’t burn them away.
