SCP Corporation: Contain Bonfire -
Chapter 397 - 397 376 I Sit Atop the Corpse of God._1
Chapter 397: Chapter 376 I Sit Atop the Corpse of “God”._1 Chapter 397: Chapter 376 I Sit Atop the Corpse of “God”._1 In the spacious mid-mountain area, an indescribable and eerie silence flowed…
Not far away, the massive, chaotic, and bloody battlefield seemed unable to affect this place at all, as if everything was being blocked by something.
As a result, this area appeared strangely quiet, completely out of step with other places.
“This person’s aura seems a bit similar to the one in the eighth carriage of the train…”
Colin’s nostrils twitched slightly, his gaze firmly fixed on the figure above, though not entirely certain, he felt there was some similarity between the two.
But the question was, if the person on the train was him, then why had he entered this place?
The doubts in his mind bubbled and surged like dumplings in boiling water…
But after pondering for a while with no success, Colin shook his head and stopped thinking, retracting his gaze. Then he glanced at the group of powerful, but now all bowing their heads submissively, facing the man’s back, a collection of various heretics and alien species.
So far, Colin could only surmise that their current status was directly related to the death of the Level C Employee.
Yet he knew nothing about how the other party had managed to do it…
Barely any signs of battle were visible at the scene.
“There’s a significant possibility that something he’s carrying, a ‘Containment Subject,’ went out of control, like the ‘Phantom Witch,’ or there’s a chance that it was an incident caused by the source of contamination. Lastly, it’s possible that he didn’t quite die?”
“Whatever the case, we have to be careful. The power level of a Level C Employee, compared to a D Level, can’t be simply described by awareness. In terms of overall strength, the gap is even bigger than between me and the dog downstairs…”
“But since I’m already here, and I have confirmed that the containment subject is on him, I can’t back down at the last step…”
Taking a deep breath, Colin cloaked himself in flames, stepped forward, and cautiously approached.
Throughout this area, there were bizarre vortex-shaped crystals…
They radiated a faint, twisted luster, constantly distorting the surroundings, but with the protection of flames, Colin wasn’t particularly worried that these things would corrode him.
He tiptoed through the wax-figure-like crowd, approaching the pink plastic chair at a slightly slower pace than usual.
As he got closer to his target without any sign of danger, Colin couldn’t help but relax a bit.
However, just then, an unexpected change occurred.
A faint groan came from one side…
Instantly, Colin’s muscles tensed, his body engulfed in firelight as he prepared for battle while looking in the direction of the sound.
He saw a follower of the “Red Moon” radiating an intense red glow, his face grimacing and contorting in pain with his eyes shut tight, then strange vortex pits appeared on his skin.
His body trembled continuously, his eyes under the lids moving restlessly, as if longing to open and awaken from some plight.
However…
A few seconds later, Colin saw the man being devoured by the vortexes that appeared on his own body.
He died without a chance to awaken, and not even remnants were left behind…
“Hiss… A being with ‘Divinity’ just vanished like that?”
Colin was inwardly shocked. Before coming up here, he had been worried that these people would ruin his mission target, but now he realized he might have worried too much…
The situation here was hardly better than the chaotic battlefield below.
If anything, it was even more mysterious.
Because so far, Colin still hadn’t figured out what was going on with these people.
Even though it was such a bizarre place, his passive sense of crisis from “Fatal Insight” hadn’t been triggered at all…
“No good, I can’t overthink it. The answer is right ahead. Overthinking on the way there will only scare myself.”
Shaking his head, taking a deep breath to suppress the alarm inside, Colin silently strengthened his protection and then continued to advance.
Two minutes later, to his relief, aside from seeing a few mysteriously dead enemies, he could say that he arrived without incident at the pink chair.
And the man seated on it, like The Thinker, bowed his head, looking down at the battlefield from the cliff.
Colin couldn’t help but follow the man’s line of sight to gaze at the war below the cliff.
Amongst the sky-high aura of blood, the appalling melee of all manner of demons and monsters continued.
At a glance, one could roughly make out the three factions: Bonfire Company Employees positioned at the foot of the mountain relying on various paraphernalia, holding back the allied armies of different races, both sides locked in a frenzied battle.
In such intense fighting, even the company’s employees had considerable casualties.
Except, like the followers of the “Red Moon,” upon death, the employees would resurrect near transport points like “Son of Cruelty,” “Little Chicken No. 7,” and “Fool’s Mushroom” after a certain period of time.
Perched on the mountainside, Colin could faintly hear cursing from the chaos below.
“Damn it, which bastard let out an uncontrolled anomaly, I died because of you…”
“Fucking Never-Setting Sun thugs, I want to see how you’re going to reclaim this later…”
“Is it possible they just dumped it here and aren’t planning to reclaim it at all? I strongly suspect these bastards came here just to toss the anomaly over…”
“Guys, bring some people, help us break through a distance, I’m going to release a high-level uncontrolled containment subject, I can barely suppress it!”
“Crap, that’s harmful, hurry up and stuff this bastard into a cannon and blast him out…”
“…”
“Pretty lively down there, looks like they could hold on for a while. It’s just that I currently can’t see what the penalty for dying is…”
Colin’s eyes moved again to glance at the followers of the “Red Moon.” Most of the strong among this group were now all standing at the mid-mountain level, causing the battlefield below to lack quality despite having numbers.
