Chapter 305: Chapter 303 The Wandering Minstrel – Rosen_1 Chapter 305: Chapter 303 The Wandering Minstrel – Rosen_1 “Is this… a message from the ‘Firebearer’?”
He swallowed hard, silent for a few seconds, before Colin seemed to snap back to reality, realizing almost immediately that this must be a message from the “Firebearer.”
These guys…
“I haven’t used this thing in a while, and just my luck it brings bad news?”
Colin pinched his forehead, realizing that powerful beings seemed to have a good chance of detecting him once he established a certain connection with them. He couldn’t figure out how they managed to do it…
He guessed that not only using the “Analytical Lens,” but also the “Book of Fate: Fragment” would probably cause a similar effect.
When you become aware of their existence, they too can sense yours.
“Probably only after gaining higher clearance at the company will I be immune to these things.”
Colin took a deep breath, recalling the message he had just received that purported to contain information he’d want to know—
‘I don’t, I’m not, don’t talk nonsense, I have no curiosity whatsoever about backups and information.’
What a joke, a big shot much stronger than him was hanging up there like a dripping oil lamp, why would he go there for no reason, to deliver himself to doom?
What relieved him a bit now was that the company had not generated any additional branching tasks requiring him to go there.
Accordingly, Colin himself certainly wasn’t planning on it.
Reining in his thoughts, Colin did not dwell further on the matter; instead, he opened the task panel to have a look.
“There are now 820 believers, divided by 10, that means there are 82 here who have already been subdued. It seems the flames have indeed conquered them.”
“If Little Tina is right, there are eight more Fishmen patrol teams that haven’t arrived yet, but that’s not a big problem—they can be called over in a bit.”
“What remains is just the last ten ‘Believers’ whose whereabouts are unknown.”
During his contemplation, Colin looked around the scene, where the scent of fish invaded his nostrils, and many a mermaid’s face showed an indefinable expression of contentment.
This felt as if cats had been thrown into catnip, so stimulated that they were almost rolling their eyes back.
Even the patrol squad that had just barred him from approaching the Bonfire now lay flat on the ground with eyes closed, opting to enjoy the moment first.
“The power of the ‘Bonfire’ seems to be about more than just comfort for them; I always feel that under the fire, their mental status becomes significantly more stable, more purified, as though many things have been purged from their bodies amidst the burning.”
Colin vaguely realized the reason the “Sea Sirens” yearned for the “Bonfire” was probably to maintain their own spiritual stability.
Then, he looked over at Dog Brother and the others and could see that, although their status clearly improved under the Bonfire and they felt comfortable, their reactions were not as exaggerated as those of the Sea Sirens.
It seemed that for normal people, the “Bonfire” only gave a sense of cleanliness without much of a burning sensation.
“The Firebearer’s flame has quite a few tricks up its sleeve.”
Colin exhaled deeply and then noticed that the neatly lying Sea Sirens, each one steaming and skin reddening, looked as though they were about to be seasoned for a meal with a sprinkle of cumin.
He had no choice but to remind the Fishmen present to turn over, lest they get burned and spoil everything.
But speaking of which, watching this group of mermaids made Colin wonder if the proud Sea Siren Queen would exhibit a similar expression?
If possible, he somewhat looked forward to it.
While Colin maintained the flame, in a small corner of the bright hall, Shana, executing her task as a Light Avatar, sat on a small rock, propping up her chin with her hand, tranquilly watching the flame that still seemed bright in her blurred vision.
The body in “World Code -13” was almost in sync with what the avatar saw.
“The master of the ‘Bonfire,’ huh?”
The body focused more attention and watched quietly for a while, possibly pondering something, then took out parchment and from her small ten-liter bag, extracted a creased book.
The book was filled with square, unfamiliar script, accompanied by a line of ancient Holy Light text:
“The Adventures of Rosen.”
This was a casually-penned notebook passed down from an ancient era, seemingly the account of a famous wandering bard’s various experiences throughout his life, not necessarily factual, but quite interesting.
The book always looked back on those times from a perspective many years later.
She opened the first page, which contained some descriptions of “Firebearers” from the “future.”
The main text was still in that square, unknown script, but beneath this script, there was translated content left by the predecessors from the “Light” doctrine:
“Legends of the ancient eras tell of such a group, holding flames in their hands, calling themselves Firebearers, traversing Star Domains, invincible wherever they went; where they arrived, all people worshipped.”
“They knew neither whence they came nor whither they were bound, but in each place, they would suppress all calamities, bringing dawn.”
“Upon departure, they left part of their power to suppress terror, making countless disasters tremble; whenever they were mentioned, all beings could only describe them with awe.”
“In their era, within the ‘Solar System,’ all anomalies had been quelled, and from this point, they looked out over the entire Galaxy, gazing into the universe and even the multiverse.”
“Even among the most ancient and unknowable, many had been expelled by them after overcoming countless hardships.”
“Later, for reasons unknown, they were about to depart, but there’s no need to worry, it’s only temporary…”
“When The Night comes, the Bonfire will reappear, shining through the eternal night.”
….
“Could the records in this ancient book be true?”
Shana raised her head to look at the flames flickering in the vague distance and couldn’t help murmuring to herself. She didn’t use to believe, treating it merely as a story since in some sense, this notebook was a collection of both true and false tales.
It also mentioned something about a holy mountain in the mists, holding a Holy Relic that dispelled all evil, akin to a Brave One obtaining a dragon-slaying sword.
She once believed it to be true and genuinely sought it for a while, only to find nothing there and wasting a lot of time, leading to quite an injury…
If not for those injuries, she might have been able to save even more people this time.
But now, feeling the faintly discernible special power in the flames…
Perhaps, this story could also be possible?
After all, not everything in it was false…
“Bang.”
Shana closed the book, her gaze lingering on a line of text below the cover.
This script seemed shielded by some unfathomable power, rendered indecipherable to this day; she could barely make out it was a signature, with only the words “Rosen” recognizable.
“Perhaps, when the time comes, I can ask him to take a look at it?”
The Saintess seemed to have some ideas; her strong Spiritual Intuition made her feel that there was a high likelihood he knew the content above.
If it weren’t for the fact that she couldn’t converse with him or make actual contact during mission execution apart from applying Status, she would want to discuss the contents of the book with Colin right now.
But that’s alright, it won’t be long now.
However, if Colin saw this book, he would indeed immediately recognize the text as a very formal corporate seal:
“‘Bonfire Campsite’s’ Special Resident Executive – Rosen.”
Then, for the content therein, he would most likely ridicule it, commenting that Rosen had no idea which online novel he copied this exquisitely fairy-tale-like section into his notes.
Because the fairy tale essence is just too potent…
