Chapter 269: Chapter 267: An Unexpected Encounter_1 Chapter 269: Chapter 267: An Unexpected Encounter_1 “You little brat, hand over the goods quickly!”

“Damn thief, catch him, I want to beat him to death!”

“Surround him, don’t let him get away!”

About seven or eight vagrants launched a pursuit of a young child, their curses filled with venom.

Aside from them, there was a large crowd of onlookers, which made the scene quite lively, but no one noticed a breathless man walking into the crowd.

Through the gaps in the crowd, Colin’s expression changed as he focused on the child being chased:

“Huh… that looks like someone I know.”

A child in tattered clothes, clutching something in his hand, was running fast to escape, while several vicious-looking people chased relentlessly behind him.

Seeing the child being cornered and chased, Colin first felt a sense of familiarity, and then quickly recognized him by scent, realizing this was the kid he had met on the way to find Tang Ken, with whom he shared a brief encounter.

The boy’s distinct black eyes and hair, along with the fact that Colin had given him a couple of glances and been noticed in return, had made a strong impression, which allowed him to recognize the boy immediately now.

Of course, his reason for coming here was not only the desire to see what was happening at the commotion near his home.

There was also a feeling that the “find the child of the mother with Beast Transformation Syndrome” task seemed to have been slightly triggered, though it was very faint, very slight.

For that task, Colin had always wanted to take it on, since his first power came from that child’s mother, leaving him indebted to her.

If it was within his power, he felt that he would be troubled by regrets if he didn’t attempt the task.

Unfortunately, when he previously asked Warden Calder, he too shook his head, indicating he didn’t know the whereabouts of the child.

Although he didn’t find the child, he did learn some information about the mother from other refugees, hearing that her own child had been stillborn and that the precious boy she cared for might have been someone else’s child she found somewhere and raised as her own.

In such cases, where the scent didn’t match her bloodline, it became even harder to find the child.

Moreover, given the hunger at that time, the outcome for orphaned children with no parents was generally not good, with a certain likelihood of being taken for “extra meals,” so Colin always feared the worst for the boy.

But the task remained active and hadn’t indicated failure, which led Colin to pray for a lucky encounter one day.

He did not expect to feel a strange sensation today…

“The sensation is too vague and weak to be sure if it was actually triggered.”

Colin rubbed his forehead.

Before he could ponder further, a vagrant suddenly sprang out on the boy’s escape route, tripping him to the ground. The others quickly pounced, capturing and beating him with a flurry of fists and kicks.

Under the rain of punches, the child didn’t cry out but stubbornly curled up on the ground.

Only his small face began to show a pair of eyes turning gradually from black to red.

“Damn it, he stole our food and dared to throw rocks at us. Break his legs!”

“Hehe, those legs, I really fancy them. Watch me smash them off.”

“Good! I haven’t eaten in so long…”

As they spoke, someone brought over a rock, raising it to smash down on the child’s legs.

But the rock had only dropped halfway when the grinning man realized a hand had blocked its descent.

Following the hand to its owner, he saw a tall, lean man who had appeared out of nowhere in front of them.

Although the single-handed block of the rock’s force astonished him, seeing Colin’s ratty appearance, which wasn’t much different from their own apart from being taller, he figured they outnumbered this new arrival!

And…

The vagrant leader, catching sight of the pair of legs revealed by the bottom of Colin’s trousers, was immediately intrigued; as someone with a fetish for legs, he suddenly got some ideas:

“Dare to interfere with me, I’ll break your legs too, and we’ll roast them for a meal!”

“Is that so?”

Colin squinted, his gaze sweeping over the few men. He could smell the stench of blood on them, a clear sign of their not being new to violence.

Even their talk of eating was not an empty threat but an actual plan.

While Colin might turn a blind eye to extreme acts of necessity, he considered actively engaging in cannibalism another matter. If he hadn’t encountered it, that was one thing, but having encountered it, it was a matter of killing every single one!

He would not allow such things on his territory!

The next moment, Colin drew his revolver and used the “Air Bullet,” firing a dozen bullets in rapid succession. Before they could react, he had blown all their heads off.

The bright red blood mist exploded along with brain matter, as one figure after another fell like harvested stalks, blood gushing out.

Seeing this, the onlookers who had come for entertainment were initially stunned, then screamed and scattered in all directions.

“Are there still a few kids who haven’t run away? Are they all together?”

Colin took a breath; he could sense that there were roughly three children who had not left, all small and malnourished-looking, but they were hiding in the back, watching this side with fear and concern.

“It’s a pity, none on the scene are related by blood to her. So many days have passed, and if it’s just a scent, the scent would have faded by now, hard to distinguish, but…”

Colin withdrew his gaze, unable to determine which one was the mother’s child, so he decided to save them all!

Not just the ones here!

If they were still alive, one day he would be able to save them!

“Speaking of which, the old Dean wanted to train me to be his successor, such a pity that ALS ruined those plans. But now it’s not too late to start an orphanage here.”

While pondering, Colin squatted down and looked at the child he had saved.

Dirty, skinny, small, with many bruises on his body and blood flowing from his forehead, yet those eyes were still bright and pure, invoking involuntary compassion…

Colin took out a clean tissue from his pocket, disregarding the filth on the child’s body, and reached out to wipe the blood from his face, then pressed on the wound.

At this moment, perhaps recognizing Colin, the child was not as wary as when they first met and did not run away either, just blinking at Colin, showing a sort of innocence and curiosity.

“Bear with it a moment.”

Colin took out a wet wipe and cleaned around the wound: “Does it hurt?”

The child shook his head, then nodded, then shook his head again.

Uh, what does that mean?

Although confused, since the child didn’t pull away, Colin continued to clean the wound and asked:

“Do you have a name?”

The child blinked his black eyes, staring at Colin as if he’d lost his internet connection, no reaction.

“Then do you know where your home is?”

No reaction.

“What about your mom and dad?”

No reaction.

‘Other than staring at me, he’s utterly unresponsive; is his brain damaged?’ Colin muttered to himself, but his hands did not stop moving. After cleaning the wound, he took out an all-purpose adhesive bandage and applied it to the nail-sized wound on his forehead.

It was then that he noticed what the child was holding in his hands—two plump moles.

As for why he caught them, Colin didn’t need to guess; it was for food.

Without a second glance, Colin searched for a bottle of emergency medicine for contusions and pulled up the child’s hand that was holding the moles, helping him apply the ointment to various swollen and bruised parts of his body.

However, with his hand pulled like that and feeling Colin’s touch roaming over his body, the child’s face suddenly turned a bit red.

And it was at that moment he suddenly heard the man before him continue to ask:

“Why were they bothering you? Did you steal something from them?”

Colin didn’t really expect the child to speak, but to his surprise, after hearing his question, the child with the pure black eyes suddenly became agitated.
