Chapter 255 - 255 255 Where the Heart Rests_1
Chapter 255: Chapter 255: Where the Heart Rests_1 Chapter 255: Chapter 255: Where the Heart Rests_1 The next day, just past nine in the morning, Colin and his companions left Base No. 4 by car, heading to another airport, ready to fly home.
Inside the car, having had breakfast, Colin leisurely sipped a cup of milk tea while looking at the news on his smartphone.
‘Recently, our city held an anti-landing military exercise….’
“So they’ve glossed over the battle on the beach from the day before yesterday already.”
Colin took a sip of his milk tea, swiped his thumb across the phone screen, and glanced at other people’s comments.
There were few comments, and most people didn’t seem to care much…
After all, due to the somewhat unique geography, there had been frequent exercises over the years; initially, people were quite surprised at sights like jet fighters, but it had since become commonplace.
About an hour later, they reached a private airport, and a modified airplane had been waiting for quite some time…
Without delay, the group boarded the camouflaged green airplane.
The interior, in contrast to the rugged exterior, was “refined” with primarily first-class seating, spacious and comfortable.
Colin casually chose a seat and noted several others that were still empty. He thought they would have to wait a bit, but the plane swiftly completed all pre-flight checks and took off at a rapid pace.
“This…is it specially arranged to take us?” Colin asked curiously.
This time taking a plane, no one told him to put his phone in airplane mode, nor instructed him not to wear headphones or anything; there were no warnings about speaking up if he felt unwell—of course, the likelihood of them feeling unwell given their physical condition was very small.
And perhaps due to some related modifications, the noise and vibration from the plane’s takeoff were incredibly quiet…
Qin Chuan nodded, “That should be the case.”
It was also his first time receiving such treatment, and he felt it novel inside, but then thinking about Colin’s strength, it all made sense.
However, what they didn’t expect was that soon after the airplane took off, four jet fighters appeared from elsewhere, closely escorting them on either side.
“Tch, this treatment…”
Qin Chuan smacked his lips, never having thought he’d experience the feeling of being escorted by fighter jets in his lifetime.
Of course, watching those armed combat planes appear and disappear within the clouds, he knew very well that all these honors stemmed from the organization’s high regard for Colin.
The other people on the plane could only enjoy this privilege by riding on Colin’s coattails…
Qin Chuan glanced at Colin, who was sitting by the window, and although he was moved, he also felt puzzled about the officials’ attitude towards Colin.
At Base No. 4, they were only told that they would form a special team under Colin’s leadership to handle anomalies, but aside from that, there were no other arrangements, nor was there any talk of surveillance.
They were simply instructed to fully agree with or assist Colin’s arrangements as long as they didn’t violate any principles.
Before they could figure out the reason for all this, after nearly two hours of flying, the airplane landed at an undisclosed location, less than thirty kilometers in a straight line from the city where Colin lived.
Colin was surprised inwardly, having had no idea that there was an airport near this area…
“Mr. Colin, are you going directly home, or do you have another destination?” asked a staff member politely, as a car waited not far behind him.
Colin first looked at Qin Chuan, “What’s the situation with our work?”
“Things should start officially around next Wednesday. If you have any other plans right now, you can leave first. I’ll go check for any updates and notify you.”
“Okay, so there’s nothing for the next few days?”
“Right, if you have any requests, just contact me on WeChat…”
“Then I’ll head back first.”
Mr. Colin had no plans to take up his post immediately. After parting with Qin Chuan and the others, he left alone in the car.
Qin Chuan, Xia Liufang, and Hu Zheng silently watched the car drive away.
“Feels like I’ve suddenly become a secretary, even though I was the first one to take up a position in this city…”
Qin Chuan couldn’t help but let out a wry smile. Then, his gaze moved past Xia Liufang to Hu Zheng, “Speaking of which, why aren’t you staying put in your area, or applying for better positions, instead of following us and hunkering down in this small place?”
Unlike them, Hu Zheng was originally the second in command for another Extraordinary One. However, this time, he had taken the initiative to transfer here—surprisingly, his application was approved.
At a time when there was a shortage of staff, it seemed a waste for a Fourth Level personnel like Hu Zheng to be here, considering Mr. Colin’s special circumstances.
“You’re not unaware of our unique situation here. I finally have a chance to latch onto a big player, so I’m seizing the opportunity to gain experience and level up. Besides, what good is a Fourth Level ‘Fate Propeller’? I might not be able to beat anyone I encounter, so I might as well blend in until I reach Sixth Level. That’s when our abilities truly begin to assert themselves…” Hu Zheng pursed his lips.
“But you need events to gain experience, right? There’s not that much happening for you to get involved with in this small place…”
Qin Chuan shook his head. The key to advancing in “Fate Propeller” was indeed to ‘blend in’, but sadly, counting the incident at the Black Forest Subway Station, his small city had only seen about five incidents in the last three years—all of them peaceful.
“This…”
Hu Zheng wanted to say “it’s hard to tell,” but after some thought, he decided not to speak.
Anyway, he felt that the key to his promotion depended entirely on Mr. Colin…
“With that look of yours, if you were a girl, you might have thrown yourself at him already,” Qin Chuan muttered, while inwardly he lamented that if he had known about latching onto a big player, he would have followed the “Fate Propeller” path as well.
Lying down while leveling up, isn’t that sweet?
“What did you say?”
“Nothing, just that you have good judgement.”
…
About half an hour later, Mr. Colin arrived at his front door, took out his key to unlock it, and pushed open the door to his home. Everything inside looked the same, but after being away for a while, the room felt somewhat smaller.
This often happened after being away on long trips, and he wasn’t particularly bothered by it…
Then, walking into his house and casually closing the door behind him, Mr. Colin first glanced at the wall clock—
December 2nd, 13:21:55.
He let his gaze wander away and took a deep breath through his nose.
“It’s been gone through once again, huh.”
Mr. Colin wasn’t surprised. He’d guessed that someone had come in about ten days ago when he disappeared in the sewer district.
And after his identity was exposed yesterday, he figured there would be some kind of arrangement.
Shaking his head and gathering his thoughts, Mr. Colin made a round of the house but didn’t spot any surveillance or listening devices.
“Some hidden corners look disturbed, so it’s possible something was installed and then removed.”
Mr. Colin simply chalked this up to official goodwill.
Now, feeling certain that nothing extra had been installed at home, he went back to his bedroom, pulled back the covers on his bed, and lay down heavily. He shifted a few times and finally let out a satisfied groan.
