Chapter 200: Chapter 200 Humming in the Waves_1 Chapter 200: Chapter 200 Humming in the Waves_1 “You’re awake?”
Qin Chuan saw Colin, who had been sleeping like the dead, finally wake up and breathed a sigh of relief.
When they had first noticed the anomaly, they had quietly started waking people up. Everyone else had awoken, but Colin had been sound asleep, taking almost a minute to respond after they called him…
“What happened? This smell…”
Colin was somewhat bewildered as he quickly recalled the memories from “seven days ago,” and then remembered that during this particular descent mission, they had encountered some creatures that might have come from the sea floor.
The smell seemed to be related to those creatures, and judging by the scent, they must be very close to this location.
At the same time, he felt a bit of pain in his shoulder. He pulled back his sleeve to look and saw two dark red marks, as if he had been pinched by something.
“Sorry, I might have pinched too hard just now,” Xia Liufang apologized from the side.
“It’s nothing.”
Colin pursed his lips, and it was only then that he generally dispelled the strange sense of alienation from having spent seven days in another world while only three hours had passed here, realizing what the “Yukionna” was chirping about—
It was probably about some very disgusting creature nearby.
At the same time, Qin Chuan also explained in a low voice, “The creatures that might come from the sea we encountered earlier are passing by outside, keep your voices down, they haven’t discovered us yet…”
What the hell are these things… Colin didn’t bother to check his rewards, but glanced outside as he spoke and saw a large group of uncanny, upright creatures resembling human beings holding torches as they moved through the darkness of the world below the building.
Squinting slightly, Colin’s pupils underwent some subtle changes. Under the clearer vision that followed, he saw these creatures had a high, scaly ridge on their backs and their skin was covered with deep blue, nearly black, and slightly reflective scales. Their hands had webbing reminiscent of a frog between them.
And their heads were incredibly large; to say they were human seemed more like some sort of fish…
“Not one or two of them have weak life forces…”
Colin looked over the muscles bulging under the scales, feeling the latent power beneath those muscles and it seemed there was some kind of indescribable special secret force over those scales.
As he observed them more closely, it was as if he could hear the sound of the waves in his ear and with each breath, it became somewhat difficult, as if his lungs were suddenly filled with water, dragged into the deep sea.
However, after shifting his gaze and silently invoking the “Beast Transformation Syndrome” tyrannical nature, that uncanny discomfort instantly disappeared, as if it had been devoured by something.
At that moment, the approximately fifty deep sea creatures below had not yet noticed the people stealthily peering from the eighth floor and continued to move amongst the ruins of the dark, destroyed city. Among these creatures, using chains around their necks, they had captured about one or two hundred people…
If Colin hadn’t been mistaken, these appeared to be all women, ranging in age from teenagers to women in their forties and fifties.
Their cries could be faintly heard from below…
“What are these creatures doing…” Qin Chuan couldn’t help asking Wang Hu, who was next to him.
Although he felt sympathy for the plight of the innocent survivors, it was evident that after surreptitiously comparing the strength of both sides, they simply did not possess the ability to attempt a rescue.
“I’m not quite sure…”
Wang Hu lowered his tone and voice, “When we were exchanging information before, I heard that these creatures from the sea seemed to specifically come ashore to capture women. There are generally three conjectures. The first is they capture them to breed their offspring, as female creatures of their kind have not been observed, or at least they can’t be distinguished if there are any. The second is they capture them for food, simply to eat them. The third conjecture is for some kind of special ceremony…
“But as for what exactly they are used for, I’m not clear, because before this, these deep-sea things generally only operated around coastal towns further south and didn’t appear here…”
As he was talking, a sudden disturbance arose from the group of creatures below, and they let out strange roars.
The people inside the room were taken aback, and immediately after, Wang Hu’s expression changed. He noticed the creatures were rushing toward a certain house, as if something was there.
“It’s our people!” Wang Hu exclaimed.
“What? Didn’t you say one day?” Qin Chuan frowned, noticing that it had been just over three hours, far less time than the other party had mentioned.
“I…” Wang Hu opened his mouth, seemingly unsure of how to explain.
But before he could speak, Qin Chuan said with displeasure, “Never mind. Next time, I hope you’ll tell me the truth. I want to tell you once again that I’m not interested in your settlement.”
Even without an explanation, everyone understood why they would say that; it was nothing more than a tactic to keep the location unpredictable.
If it were a normal situation, it wouldn’t be a big deal, but now it was causing complications.
“Which one of you claimed to know the location of the shelter…” An Extraordinary One interjected directly. These monsters were much more powerful than those with black skin; saving everyone was completely unrealistic.
“The girl with white hair…”
“A girl?”
“Yes…”
After he gave an answer, they didn’t delay any longer. Qin Chuan, along with two Extraordinary Ones and five armed personnel, as well as two survivors aside from Wang Hu, set off for a rescue attempt, planning to retreat to Shelter No. 24 afterward.
The remaining members, Xia Liufang and another official Fate Propeller Extraordinary One, along with two armed personnel, hid upstairs, charged with protecting Colin, the burn victim, and Wang Hu—three defenseless, helpless, ordinary people…
“Is this plan really going to work?” Qin Chuan couldn’t help but question.
If those monsters really discovered this place, to put it bluntly, they would have to do without a Fate Propeller, as they had no fighting power before reaching Level 5, only being slightly better than Colin’s group in not being disabled.
“You may not trust me, but you can’t distrust my premonition.”
The official Fate Propeller Extraordinary One said, “I have foreseen that this location is actually the safest. There won’t be any casualties even if there is an accident. I don’t know why this is the case, but compared to us, I think you should be more careful.”
As he spoke, he glanced at Qin Chuan’s forehead. “Do you know that the space between your eyebrows is dark and shining?”
“Say something more auspicious,” Qin Chuan spat, then promptly led the others downstairs.
After they left, the room suddenly felt emptier. The Level 2 official Fate Propeller casually sat on the floor. Seeing Colin, who suffered from Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, with a grave expression, he tried to reassure him:
“Don’t worry. If I say we’re going to be alright, then we definitely will. Trust me; it’s certain…”
Brother, don’t jinx it. Just relying on you, everyone here doesn’t know how many times they would die. They might even get their fill of Meng Po Soup…
Colin muttered to himself, pursing his lips and offering no comment on the other’s words.
Contrary to the man’s intuition, he felt a clear unease at that moment, being able to distinctly smell the “fishy scent” getting stronger.
And whether the intensification of the smell was due to the increasing number of non-human monsters downstairs was unknown…
“La la la la, la la la la, hmm hmm hmm, la la la~”
Suddenly, a soft, nasal hum of a song entered his ears, the gentle voice like a mother’s lullaby, full of a soothing, enticing power that made one want to get lost in it.
Initially, Colin didn’t pay much attention to it because the voice sounded familiar to him—it was Xia Liufang’s. But after listening for two or three seconds, his expression glazed over momentarily, as if he were hearing layers of waves bringing drowsiness to him.
However, in that moment of near indulgence, he violently felt a surge of anger burst forth from deep within. This anger swallowed the foreign sensation that had crept in, snapping Colin back to alertness.
