Chapter 290: Chapter 290: As He Said, With Sincere Affection
After watching Shen Juanzhi go upstairs, Shen Weiyi turned to Sheng Ting and said, "So, what do you think? Feeling the pressure after meeting my dad for the first time? Isn’t it way more intense than doing your experiments?"
Sheng Ting smiled, "It wasn’t too bad. It’s clear Uncle cares a lot about you." However, it seemed he wasn’t entirely satisfied with him.
"Of course, I’m the person my dad cares about the most in this world, and he’s the person I care about the most." In this world, the only thing Shen Weiyi never doubted was Shen Juanzhi’s love for her.
"Looking at my dad’s expression, he seems to have accepted you." Otherwise, he wouldn’t have invited him to stay for lunch, and he specifically pushed all his work to the afternoon, although he’s too stubborn to admit it.
"Don’t worry, I’ll make sure Uncle fully accepts me." He could understand the sentiment; if he ever had a daughter one day, he would not easily trust just anyone with her.
After lunch, Shen Weiyi saw Sheng Ting out. As she turned around, she saw Shen Juanzhi standing by the window.
She returned to the room with a smile and said to him, "So, what do you think, my taste in guys isn’t bad, right?"
"Hmph, that kid just has good looks, but he’s nowhere close to me," Shen Juanzhi scoffed.
Shen Weiyi laughed, "That’s for sure. You’ll always be the best in my heart, no one can compare to you."
Flattered by his daughter’s flattery, Shen Juanzhi glared at her and said, "Enough, stop trying to charm me." He wasn’t fooled; he knew she was just trying to speak well of that kid.
Shen Juanzhi looked at her and said, "Anyway, life is full of disappointments, and it’s rare to find something that truly pleases you. I won’t meddle in you two’s affairs, as long as you’re happy, that’s what matters. I only have one condition, if he ever makes you unhappy, you must tell me right away. Remember this well, my daughter Shen Juanzhi should never be wronged at any time."
He worked so hard only to ensure that she had enough confidence in herself. So that even if she took the wrong path or made the wrong decisions, she could always start over.
"Dad, thank you," Shen Weiyi couldn’t help but reach out and hug him.
"Jeez, you’re so grown up, why do you still love to act like a baby?" Shen Juanzhi teased her.
"Didn’t you say that I will always be your baby?"
"Yes, you will always be my most precious baby." The best decision of his life was to keep her and raise her himself. No project, no amount of investment could compare to the joy of returning home to see his daughter.
"Can you tell me about mom? What was she like?" Shen Weiyi suddenly asked.
She really wanted to know more about the woman who made her father’s heart flutter, who had her out of wedlock, and then disappeared without a trace, leaving her father and her alone.
"Your mom, she..."
Shen Juanzhi seemed to have fallen into some memory.
In his youth, Shen Juanzhi was wild and unrestrained, living boldly, but at the age of seventeen, he met a girl. He toned down his edges for her, fell hard, and couldn’t extricate himself after that.
From Shen Juanzhi’s memories, her mom was a good student, beautiful, the kind of model student and good girl that you’d never imagine would fall in love early or have a child out of wedlock.
But he spoke of her with such genuine emotion that Shen Weiyi couldn’t help but believe him.
So much so that when Shen Weiyi later saw that strong, decisive businesswoman who came back from abroad, she couldn’t reconcile her with the person Shen Juanzhi had described.
