Chapter 220: Chapter – 199 – Two Unbearable Assholes

Zachariah’s Point Of View

No sooner than I had opened my mouth to firmly decline Shaihffer’s request, the second elevator let out a chime and Chazmen stepped out beaming sly grin like a fox in a henhouse.

"Ugh... Fuck my life..." I grumbled softly under my breath.

"Brother! What a welcomed surprise. I thought you said you had pressing matters to attend to and would not be able to meet with us today, no?" Chazmen said, embracing Shaihffer in a tight hug.

"Well, I did my best to show up anyway. Though, it appears that I’ve missed it entirely..." Shaihffer replied.

He looked a little despondent while he spoke, but his voice was laced with venom.

"Yes. Though it is unfortunate, I have pressing matters to attend to back home. So, if you gentlemen will excuse me, I’ll be on my way." I said, using the current direction of the conversation to make my exit.

"Surely you can spare a few moments more. I would hate to miss this opportunity, and subsequently visit you at your home." Shaihffer said, his voice deep and threatening.

’Is this asshole seriously threatening me? For real?’

"Well, unfortunately for you, I’m not particularly concerned with you coming for a vist. Rather, it is you who should be worried if I’ll even be home when you do." I smirked.

My retort had clearly knocked some of the smugness out of the asshole, as his face turned inscrutable.

"How brazen can one man be? Do you intend to go to war with the government, Zachariah?" Shaihffer asked, hisvoice dripping with malice.

"I’m not sure I understand your question. The whole reason that the government and previous Mafia Monarch signed a contract between each other was to prevent exactly that. It seems that the powers that be have a short memory. You all are the aggressors in this situation, and it’s about time that you stop poking the sleeping bear." I said pointedly.

"That would be where you’re wrong. Ferdinand and his loathsome rag-tag bunch of miscreants started this fight. Whether they intended to or not. Ignorance of the law will not save them from their actions." Shaihffer replied with a glare.

Suddenly a phone began to rang, causing everyone to flinch in surprise. The phone ringing belonged to Chazmen, who answered it immediately.

Then, I heard heavy footfalls and anxious breathing that grew progressively louder. I turned in the direction of the sound, and noticed a man quickly approaching our group from the left. His panicked expression instantly put me on edge.

"Gentlemen, it is imperative that you all follow me as quickly as you can." He said, trying to catch his breath and failing miserably.

I looked the man over with a wary, investigative, and scrutinizing once-over. I’d have to be sick in the head to follow a man I had never seen before in a governmental building such as this.

"For what purpose?" I inquired harshly.

"Uh... Um... T-There is breaking news on every channel... T-That I think you all need to see." The man replied nervously.

"I’m going to look right now. Just calm the hell down. Stay on task, and worry about your fucking self, Siggfreid!" Chazmen yelled into his phone before disconnecting the call.

"Lead the way." Chazmen said to the nervous newcomer, an angry scowl on his face.

"Right away!" The man said, turning abruptly and heading to a nearby conference room.

My curiosity had quickly overwritten my wariness, and I followed behind Shaihffer slowly. Whatever was going on, clearly wasn’t good news for Chazmen, and I was dying to know what had ruffled his pompous feathers.

Chazmen stomped heavily after the random man escorting us, I watched him barrel ahead struggling to keep a straight face in an attempt to hide my amusement at his awkwardly angry gait.

Shaihffer glanced back at me as if to confirm that I was following them as well. When we locked eyes, he gave me an amused grin.

The evil glint in his eyes made my blood run cold. It was becoming abundantly clear that he was the true mastermind behind our current predicament.

’Is this new development his doing? Is he actually working against his brother? Maybe he views Chazmen as a convenient pawn?’

The fact that any of my suspicions could be true instantly filled me with dread. It was painfully obvious now that Shaihffer had every intention to twist the laws to suit his needs, and he had no problem doing whatever he could to achieve his own fucked up goals.

Upon entering the conference room, the large television was showing a popular news broadcast with the sound muted. However, despite the lack of sound, the boldly printed banner scrolling across the bottom of the screen was enough to make my eyes widen reflexively in shock.

[Recent kidnappings of citizens, a plot of the government?! Government officials potentially breaking Mafia Peace Treaty!]

I couldn’t be sure what kind of new Intel had been leaked to the press, but I was certain that this was the work of Meyhymn. He had declared that he would put his all behind this endeavor, and he had provided us with some incredibly powerful intel as well. I had no doubt that he would give the powers that be a run for their money.

The random man who had escorted us to the conference room turned up the volume on the TV and the news anchor was in the middle of elaborating further on the new Intel that they had recieved.

{While there were numerous citizens turning a blind eye to the recent disappearance of many Omega citizens, the news that this has actually been going on for the past 30 years is quite alarming. The female news anchor chided.

Indeed. It’s one thing to retrieve stolen property, but when you factor in the knowledge that they have been conducting these actions covertly for years is inhumane, and a dereliction of their duty to the people. Her male co-host replied.}

"Well now... Look at this unpredictable turn of events." Shaihffer murmured wryly.

"How can you be so calm right now?! The public will turn on us in no time, asshole!" Chazmen yelled, his cheeks flushed in anger.

"You really need to calm down, brother. Getting hit a few times is inevitable in a slugfest. You were playing checkers, while I’ve been playing chess." Shaihffer smirked.

Shaihffer’s reply made me bristle with anger, I couldn’t help but lash out in annoyance.

"Ah, now I see... You should know Directors, that I’ve never once lost a game of chess after I came of age." I grinned, before bowing dutifully then abruptly leaving.
