Chapter 199: Chapter – 178 - An Awkward Meal
Tristan’s Point Of View
After having some down time with my Alphas after the stressful meeting we had with the other Kings, I was in a much more tranquil state of mind. I had decided to accept the good and the bad with equanimity, and made the decision to focus on what must be done now, to protect everyone that I loved.
"Alright, now that everyone is here, let’s eat." Sylvester said, gleefully.
"Yeah... we can eat, but while we do, I want you to give us an abridged version of your meeting. Since I am partly to blame for our current situation, I would like to help in any way that I can." Meahlene said calmly.
"Yeah. That’s not a problem." Ferdinand agreed.
Once everyone had their plates made, we began to eat in an awkward silence. No one wanted to be the bearer of bad news apparently. Ferdinand was currently stuffing his face to avoid talking at all.
"Well, I can tell you what I know and understand... If that’s alright with you." I said, finally breaking the awkward silence.
"Yes, absolutely. Thank you, Tristan." Meahlene nodded.
"Of course... Well the main takeaway from the meeting is that the government has been preparing this plan for a while now. No Duhtchy is safe for Omegas at the moment. Omega abductions are on the rise all over, and the new Edicts violate the Treaty signed between the Kings and the Parliament. It is also possible that there are multiple schemes in play, and this estate will presumably become ground zero for an all out war."
I knew that the information I was providing would be heavy, so I didn’t glance up from my food a single time while delivering it. The situation was anything but good, however we had no choice but to push through it.
"You’re surprisingly calm about all this, Big Brother..." Arrisa said, looking at me skeptically.
"Well, truth be told I’ve done enough stressing to last me a lifetime. The only thing left to do now is prepare for the inevitable, and protect what we have."
"I agree. There’s no use fretting about what’s already happened. Our time will be better spent working on a counterattack." Nahana said with a malicious grin.
I was glad that no one seemed to panic much. Having Meyhymn back eased my mind considerably as well. Synnahmen looked a bit anxious, but I couldn’t blame him. This was probably a new experience for him.
I definitely understood how he was feeling. I’d wager, he’s feeling exactly how we did, after we escaped from the facility in Delgaide. As I watched him, I noticed his white knuckled grip on his fork. He hadn’t taken a single bite yet. Santiago could do nothing but give him worried glances.
"I think we should relocate all the Omegas and non-combatants to my home in Haz’Kaizer." Meyhymn said, drawing everyone’s attention immediately.
"Not that I’m apposed to the suggestion, but I have to ask... Why?" Cole asked, his eyes curious.
"Well... It doesn’t necessarily have to be that home in particular. I chose it solely due to the fact that it’s where I was living just before coming back here. It’s already stocked with essentials, though we will probably need to buy groceries. They could go to any of my properties, since none of them are connected to me in terms of my personal information. Everything I own is listed under an alias name." Meyhymn replied confidently.
"It sounds reasonable enough. My only concern is the possibility of a spy gaining access to the plan, or the day of their departure..." Ferdinand sighed.
"True. I suggest we keep that information between the ones who need to know. I can’t imagine them sabotaging themselves just to betray us." Bellamy said thoughtfully.
"I agree. I’d certainly kill them on the spot for their disloyalty anyway, so I doubt anyone would be so foolish." Ferdinand agreed.
"Okay. We’ll discuss a date to move, and inform all parties involved the day before." Sylvester said.
I heaved a weary sigh. I couldn’t say what I wanted to. Everyone would no doubt fly into a frenzy if I did.
However...
’I have no intention of leaving my Alphas behind... It would be too big of a risk for me to go anyway... Hiding Arellany and the girls is my highest priority...’
We had fabricated each of our birth records, listing everyone as a Beta with fake names for their parents. It worked for our daily needs, and when we visited other Duhtchies. However, it would not work on the federal agents who no doubt had dossiers on all of us.
I looked around the massive table at each of the people who constituted our beautiful family. I couldn’t imagine losing a single one of them. Just imagining that possibility, made my chest hurt.
"So does this mean I won’t be able to spend my birthday with everyone?" Sable asked, crestfallen.
"I’m so sorry Sable... I would love to celebrate your coming of age with you... However, it’s far too risky. There’s no way I could risk your capture during or after, your birthday. With your 16th birthday, comes your first heat cycle. I can’t imagine a worse hell for you other than you getting captured in that state... Please try to understand..." Ferdinand said, despondent.
Sable blanched at the reminder of her heat, and the possibility of getting captured during it. She gave a solemn nod, and then stood up from the table.
"I’ll be leaving first. I’m a bit worn out, I’m going to go to bed now..." Sable sighed as she trudged out of the dining hall, never once looking back.
"Raihne..." Arrisa sighed.
"I know. I’m on it, don’t worry Ari." Raihne chuckled, rising as well.
"I feel like an evil villain now..." Ferdinand groaned.
"It’s fine. You are not the one to blame here. Sable is a very sagacious girl. She no doubt understands the logistics of the decision, but even though she knows that, it still sucks..." I said, trying to comfort him.
"Yeah. It’s fine, Boss. She’s not the type of person to point the blame in unreasonable directions. However, I doubt she ever considered the possibility of getting captured during her heat cycle. She’s most likely going to worry about the possibility of that future, to an unnecessary degree now." Raihne chuckled, as he walked out of the dining hall as well.
"I don’t really understand... But does this mean I can’t get Sable a birthday present now?" Arellany asked, looking around dejected.
"No sweetheart. It just means we’ll have to have her party later. You can still give her presents. It will make her very happy." I said, ruffling his hair.
"Okay!" He exclaimed, nodding with a big smile on his face.
"We can make a concrete plan after our next meeting with Zachariah. I would like to know if the government has a strong enough rebuttal for their flagrant violation of the Treaty they signed and agreed to..." Ferdinand announced.
"Yeah... That will help us determine the speed of their aggression, and the way we will contend with it. So tonight, drink your fill. I doubt we’ll have another chance to relax or drink again, for a while." Sylvester said, then chugged the entirety of his beer.
"COOL! I WANNA TRY THAT!" Arellany exclaimed, picking up his cup and guzzling down his chocolate milk through a silly straw.
The table erupted in happy laughter, as Arellany held his cup high above his head, a goofy grin spreading on his face as he celebrated his apparent victory.
’I refuse to lose what we have... I’m tired of running away... I’ll do whatever I have to do, to protect them... It’s time to face the future properly... The only way to a peaceful future, is through the insufferable enemy...’
