Chapter 187: Chapter – 166 - Darkness On The Horizon

Kaleb’s Point Of View

"Master Kaleb?" Anita’s voice pulled my attention away from watching Kaihsie color.

"What is it?"

"Gaibe asked if you could meet him in his study." She replied, nervously.

"Did he say why?"

"No. Only that if you could, to do so immediately." She replied with a bow.

I looked back down at Kaihsie, who was now looking up at me, eyes full of curiosity. She had grown up so much in the past few years, and there was a constant unknown pang I’m my chest whenever I noticed her growth.

"You can go, big brother. I’ll just stay here and color. Maybe even play some video games with Ahnita." She smiled softly.

I was helpless against that smile. She had long since surpassed any mundane definitions of ’Weakness’ , and had plunged into potentially becoming the complete and utter ruination of my soul.

The first 2 years we had spent here with Gaibe, had been the hardest. I constantly stressed and worried about whether I had made the right decision. I missed my siblings more than I ever thought was possible, and I nearly drove myself insane trying to avoid them.

I missed Ari’s ridiculous ideas and mandatory tea times. I missed Sable’s constant mothering– even though I was the older one.

I missed Delcain’s dependability. The need to complain to him, constantly nagged at me. His terrible choice in movies, his overbearing friendship, and his over-all love and care.

Even though I was loathe to admit it, I even missed Tristan and his overwhelming concern. I wanted Kaihsie to grow up with all of us around. I couldn’t help but remember the promise we had made to each other, when we had finally gotten our own apartment.

"Alright! From this moment on, we are a family. We look out for each other, and we will stay by each other’s side no matter what. Until the very end. You’re all precious to me, and I could never bare to lose any of you. We’ll be together, forever. Right?’

Tristan’s hopeful and proud expression was permanently engraved into my mind. We had wholeheartedly agreed, hopeful about our futures.

’We were too naive... Too blissfully unaware...’

Before I knew it, I was standing in front of Gaibe’s door to his study. I looked around, a bit confused. It had barely registered that I had even gotten here on my own. I took a deep and shaky breath, before I knocked on the door.

"Come in." Gaibe said from beyond the door.

I hesitated for just a moment, suddenly jumping to conclusions about why he had even summoned me to begin with.

’This had better not be a perverted request again!’

I slowly twisted the handle, and entered the room. Gaibe was alone inside, sitting at his desk with two large monitors obscuring his face. He seemed entirely focused on the screens in front of him.

"What did you call me for?" I asked, closing the door and approaching him.

He looked up with a start upon hearing my voice, and then his face contorted into one of fear and sadness.

Any lingering thoughts that I had about his perverted nature evaporated. Of all the times he would randomly summon me during the day, that was never the face he made when I arrived.

"What’s wrong? Why are you making that face?" I asked, coming to a stop at his side.

He didn’t say anything, he just wrapped a strong arm around my waist and pulled me into his lap. If it wasn’t for the unnerving expression he was making, I would retract my earlier remarks about this not being another perverted request.

"You should see this..." He murmured softly.

I looked up at the screen he was pointing to, and my eyes nearly bulged out of my skull. Reading the article plastered on the screen made me feel queasy, and unable to focus on anything else.

"What is this? Why is this happening now? What the hell does this mean?!" I asked, my anger gradually overshadowing my fears.

"Yeah... My guess is that they are trying to strong-arm the Mafia Kings, all so they can get to Tristan... This honestly shouldn’t be possible..." Gaibe sighed, rubbing my back in an attempt to comfort me.

However, this was not something that we could just look past and ignore. Gaibe had been running an Educational Rehab facility of sorts, for a few years now. It was doing surprisingly well, all things considered.

When Gaibe had told me about his plans, I didn’t think that he could pull it off. I had no faith in the Alphas of this world, that sought only to monopolize and control any and all Omegas.

However, when I went with him to visit the facility one day... I had been thoroughly shocked. Not only did he have a few Omegas from the Delgaide facility helping with teaching younger Omegas how to read and write, he had also hired Alphas to teach them career and life skills.

It was an overwhelming sight, and I honestly had begun to have hope for the future. Gaibe had accomplished so much more in the years that followed, it was kind of hard not to have hope.

’It would appear that Tristan’s blind optimism has begun to rub off on me... I was being naive again, and tragically sanguine about the future... I became content, and let my guard down. Didn’t I?’

"Is your facility considered a Privately Owned Omega Facility?" I asked, finally calming down enough to stop gritting my teeth.

"I don’t think so, since I’m not actively trying to create more Omegas... The problems that I will face will be due to some of the Omegas that I have employed, the general consensus of the other Kings and my Monarch, and most importantly, you." He said, flexing his arm around my waist even tighter.

For the most part, our relationship hadn’t exactly evolved from that of a roommate, or a friend with overwhelming benefits over the last few years. He never pressed the issue of us actually dating, and I never wanted to be the one to initiate it.

More times than not, he was overbearing and unnaturally sexual. It made it hard for me to discern whether or not he actually had feelings for me, or if I was just something to occupy his time with.

Even after 6 years of living together, he had only said lovey-dovey crap to me when he wanted to screw me. Unfortunately for me, I didn’t necessarily hate it. Because he only acted that way towards me.

He had a facility full of beautiful Omega women. Women that he’d never have to jump through hoops to obtain. And yet, he spent more time at home in his study or with me, than he did at the facility. And he would always asked me to join him when he went to the facility.

I couldn’t explain why, but that knowledge made me ridiculously happy and horribly smug. Because despite me being a male Omega– and the first guy he’s ever had any kind of relations with– I had become extremely conscious of him and his presence.

"I’m about to have a meeting with my Monarch... Do you want to join me?" He asked, expectantly.

I could feel his arms trembling slightly around me, and I knew that he didn’t want to face the meeting alone. Even though it was not my place to attend such a meeting, I was extremely curious about what it would be like and the things they would discuss.

Since I chose to leave Ferdinand’s estate to protect my sister and our future, it would become a pointless endeavor if Gaibe were to suffer from it, or we ended up being in just as much danger as we had been before.

"Yeah... I’ll join you." I said, breaking the tense silence between us.

"Alright... It will start in about 15 minutes. I’m sure Tristan will be in attendance as well.

’Yeah... I can imagine he would be. The construction of the facilities was his idea in the first place... Also, this is no doubt a ploy for the Government to get him back...’

One thing I knew for sure, was that there was Darkness looming on the horizon... And I wasn’t even sure we could handle the inevitable.....
