Chapter 33: Do you want to breach the contract

At the dining table, even the maid could sense the tension between the couple eating dinner.

Roman’s body emanated a cold, chilly aura that made Julie, who wanted to discuss what she had seen online and clear the air with him, zip her lips into a thin line.

The silence between them was palpable, and the maid’s attempts to break the ice only seemed to make things more awkward.

Roman couldn’t stop thinking about what the investigator had said.

The words kept replaying in his mind, fueling his anger and hurt.

He hated betrayal, and the memories of his ex-girlfriend’s infidelity still lingered.

And here he was, even married to another woman who might be hiding secrets of her own, which made him feel like he was being stabbed in the heart twice.

The pain and distrust he thought he had overcome came flooding back, making him question everything about their relationship.

Julie, sensing his mood, tried to stay out of his way, but Roman could feel her eyes on him, wondering what was wrong.

Just then, Roman’s phone rang, "Ring, ring," shattering the uncomfortable silence.

He quickly excused himself and went up to his room, leaving Julie to wonder what was going on.

As he answered the call, a male voice could be heard from the other end.

"Hey bro, where are you?" It was Lazarus, his best friend.

Roman’s expression remained neutral as he replied, "At home. Why did you ask?" He raised an eyebrow, curiosity piqued.

Lazarus, who had Samantha clinging to him, didn’t seem to mind her affection.

In fact, he was slowly and carefully patting her hair, a gentle smile on his face.

"We will be celebrating at the karaoke, hope you won’t keep us waiting," Lazarus said, explaining why he had asked about Roman’s whereabouts.

Roman’s response was curt. "When?" he asked in a deep, icy cold voice, his eyes fixed on some point beyond the phone.

Just then, Julie opened the door and peeked inside, her eyes meeting Roman’s for a brief moment.

Lazarus’s laughter echoed through the phone. "Next Monday," he said, and Roman nodded his head silently, his expression unreadable.

Lazarus’s tone turned teasing. "How are you doing, bro? I heard you’ve found me a beautiful sister," he said with a sly smile in his voice.

Roman’s eyes followed Julie as she hovered in the doorway, her gaze fixed on him.

"I’m all good, yeah, a beautiful sister," Roman said, his voice neutral, but his eyes betraying a hint of interest as he looked at her.

"Come on, give me the phone, quick, quick, please," Samantha nagged persistently, her voice rising above the background music and laughter at the upscale bar where she and Lazarus were hanging out.

The dimly lit room was filled with the hum of conversation and the clinking of glasses, but Samantha’s focus was solely on getting the phone from Lazarus.

Lazarus, lounging on a plush couch, smiled lazily as he held the phone to his ear.

He was reclined against the backrest, his arm draped over Samantha’s shoulders, who was snuggled up close to him.

The soft glow of the bar’s neon lights cast a warm ambiance, and the sound of clinking glasses and laughter filled the air.

"It’s okay, wait a second," Lazarus said, then turned his attention back to Roman.

"Is my beautiful sister-in-law there with you?" he asked, his voice smooth and carefree.

"Yeah, she’s here," Roman replied, looking at Julie and motioning for her to come closer.

Julie, busy separating her bed sheets, glanced up at him and pointed to herself, questioning.

When Roman nodded, Julie hesitated but slowly walked towards him, feeling his intense gaze on her.

As she approached, Roman heard Samantha’s voice in the background.

"Can you give her the phone, please?" Roman wasn’t surprised; he knew those two were lovebirds.

Without comment, he turned to Julie.

"Here she is," he said, his voice cold and emotionless.

"Sit," he instructed Julie, his tone unwavering.

Julie’s eyes met Roman’s, and she sat down beside him, her movements cautious.

Roman handed her the phone without a word, his expression unreadable.

Julie took the phone, her fingers brushing against Roman’s, and said, "Hello?"

In the background, Lazarus was smiling at Samantha, who was pouting playfully, her eyes sparkling with amusement.

The bar’s atmosphere was lively, with patrons laughing and chatting over drinks, but Lazarus’s attention was focused on his girlfriend who is eager to talked to Julie.

"Hi!!," Samantha squealed, her voice filled with excitement.

Lazarus, sitting beside her, turned to look at her, a smile spreading across his face.

Julie, hearing Samantha’s screech, couldn’t help but smile, and Roman, sitting beside her, found himself smiling too, his eyes fixed on Julie.

"Long time," Julie managed to say, feeling Roman’s gaze on her head as she sat in front of him on the bed.

As Julie sat in front of Roman, his eyes locked onto hers, their intensity softened by a gentle warmth.

His fingers began to play with a strand of her hair, twirling it around his index finger in a gentle caress.

The soft glow of the room’s lighting danced across their faces, casting a romantic ambiance.

Julie’s heart fluttered as she met Roman’s gaze, her pulse racing with a mix of emotions.

She felt a spark of connection, as if the air around them was charged with an unspoken understanding.

Samantha’s voice, though distant, seemed to fade into the background as Roman’s focus remained on Julie.

His eyes, once cold and distant, now shone with a soft light, like the first stars appearing in a night sky.

As Julie laughed and chatted with Samantha, Roman’s fingers continued to weave a gentle pattern in her hair, his touch sending shivers down her spine.

The world around them melted away, leaving only the two of them, suspended in a moment of tender intimacy.

The soft rustle of Julie’s hair as Roman’s fingers danced through it was the only sound that seemed to matter.

In that instant, time stood still, and all that existed was the gentle caress of Roman’s touch and the soft glow of the room.

"Yes, long time! I totally forgot to collect your phone number that day," Samantha chattered happily, laughing.

"I could have added you to my WeChat, and we could have been chatting and strengthening our bond."

Lazarus, listening to her, thought to himself, ’If she keeps talking to Roman’s girlfriend like that, I’m sure I won’t see her near me at all when they meet.’ He mentally prepared himself for the worst.

As they chatted for over twenty minutes, Julie almost forgot Roman was sitting beside her.

" Don’t sit at home, come and don’t leave me waiting alone," Samantha said with a happy smile thinking Julie heard everything Lazarus and Roman talked about.

Julie’s face furrowed in thought, and she wondered which party Samantha was talking about. She quickly smiled back and replied, "Okay, I will."

"Goodbye, my dear, love you," Samantha said with a small, girlish laugh. Julie laughed too and bid her farewell.

As she hung up, she immediately got up.

Forgetting Roman’s presence, Julie stood up abruptly, but before she could take a step, she collided with him, sending them both tumbling onto the bed. "Uhm," Julie moaned, grimacing in pain.

Roman’s eyes narrowed as he gazed at Julie, his expression unyielding. He didn’t release her, his grip on her waist tightening instead.

"Let go," Julie pleaded, struggling to free herself, but Roman’s hold was like a vice.

As Julie continued to struggle, Roman’s gaze never wavered, his eyes piercing hers with an icy intensity.

The room fell silent, the only sound their ragged breathing.

Roman’s thoughts were consumed by his own agenda, his mind working overtime to unravel the mystery that was Julie.

’Let’s see who the real you are, dear,’ he thought, a cold smile spreading across his face.

Without warning, Roman’s grip on Julie’s waist tightened, and she gasped, her eyes widening in panic.

"Let go of me," she begged, sensing the darkness in his eyes.

Roman’s voice was devoid of emotion as he replied, "You forget that you’re my wife.

His words hung in the air like a challenge. "Or do you want to breach the contract?"

Julie’s eyes welled up with tears as she met Roman’s gaze, her voice barely above a whisper.

"Please let go." Roman’s fingers closed around her chin, holding her in place.

Roman’s eyes turned icy cold as he gazed directly into Julie’s watery eyes.

"Please let go," Julie begged, tears welling up in her eyes.

She tried to lower her gaze, but Roman’s fingers pinched her chin, holding her in place.

Julie’s eyes brimmed with tears as she knew she was trapped.

She had read the contract carefully, and breaching it would mean being kicked out of the house, leaving her homeless.

All she could do was beg. "Please don’t," she whispered, her shoulders shaking as tears rolled down her cheeks.

Roman’s expression darkened, his eyes flashing with anger.

"Why should I show mercy when you whore around with men?" he spat, his voice dripping with venom.

Julie’s eyes widened in shock, her face pale with fear.

The room fell silent, the only sound Julie’s muffled sobs.

Roman’s grip on her chin remained firm, his eyes boring into hers with an unyielding intensity.

Julie’s tears continued to fall, and she knew she was at his mercy.
