Chapter 15: We need to talk

Looking at him shyly, Julie nodded her head. Roman hummed in response and took a deep breath.

"You know, last night you were fantastic," Roman said, which caught Julie off guard, and her eyes widened.

" Was I fantastic?" Julie asked, forgetting to blink over the compliment. "Yes, fighting you were," he confirmed, making her smile grow wider.

However, her smile soon faltered as Roman added, "Thought you aren’t that expert." Julie’s shoulders collapsed in disappointment.

But before she could dwell on it, her eyes narrowed, thinking, ’How did he know I know how to fight in the first place?’ Her eyes widened as she blurted out,

"Is there CCTV footage?" Roman confirmed with a slow nod, his eyes fixed on her surprised face.

"Secondly, don’t cry over such things; you have no control over them, and it isn’t your fault. So don’t cry; just be more cautious next time and know that some of our actions won’t bring good results, okay?" Roman said, still standing in front of her and looking at her intently, trying to assure her.

Without his knowledge, his words and gaze greatly touched Julie, and a stream of tears followed down her cheeks as she sniffled.

"Thank you," Julie said in a small voice, nodding her head like an obedient child.

Still looking at her, Roman didn’t know what to do or offer to console her, but he knew he didn’t like seeing her in tears.

Suddenly, he said, "Do you want to beat them again?" Julie’s eyes fluttered open, and she raised her face to look at him, speechless.

"Yes, do you want that?" Roman asked, looking at her with utmost confidence.

"Of course, I want that! I want to teach them a lesson they’ll never forget – that if, they see any girl in need, they should help, or else they should turn, run away, and flee," Julie said in one breath, her eyes flashing with determination.

Roman watched her, surprised by her transformation. "Okay," he said and stood up.

Julie spoke up, "But you saw it yesterday; I couldn’t stop them because I don’t know how to fight." She hung her head down sadly.

Looking at her, Roman asked, "You want to learn how to do it?" Julie blinked before nodding enthusiastically as Roman nodded.

"Okay, you’ll get to learn; I’ll teach you before we practice," Roman said and walked away to continue what he had stopped earlier.

Julie kept her eyes on him, surprised as he took hold of the knife and started cutting the onion like a perfect chef.

Julie’s eyes lingered on him, wondering what other skills he possessed.

’He can cook? Or is he a CEO for saying it out loud,’ Julie thought, looking at him with a raised brow and a complicated expression.

Roman handed her a cup of coffee, which she gladly accepted after blinking twice. Roman wondered if she needed time to process everything. \n(o)v.e\l.com

"Here," Roman said, his deep voice calm.

"Thank you," Julie murmured, her voice barely audible.

With an expressionless face, Roman walked back to the sink and began chopping ingredients with precision.

Julie’s eyes followed his every move, her jaw dropping slightly as he effortlessly retrieved a pan from a high cabinet.

Julie recalled her struggles in the kitchen the previous day.

"Oh God, what a damn cabinet – it must be ridiculously high," she had muttered, jumping high to reach the pan but falling short. She had hummed in frustration before spotting a tall stool and smiling in triumph.

Back in the present, Julie found herself drooling over Roman’s tallness and fluid movements as he cooked.

She watched intently as he stirred the onions, added meatballs and cabbage, and seasoned the dish with precision.

Roman added a pinch of curry powder, careful not to overpower the flavors.

Julie’s eyes followed his every move, wondering what he was cooking but hesitant to ask, fearing his demeanor might shift.

After stirring the ingredients and closing the lid, Roman added water to the pan. Once it boiled, he retrieved noodles from the cabinet, and Julie’s face lit up with a smile.

’Hmm, noodles,’ she thought, feeling content.

Eight minutes later, Roman served the noodles in two bowls with chopsticks and carried them to the dining room, leaving Julie alone in the kitchen.

She felt a pang of sadness but remained quiet.

"Hmm, is he going to eat the noodles alone without me?" Julie wondered.

Just then, Roman’s voice answered her unspoken question, "I’m not that piggy to eat all that alone." Julie’s lips pressed into a thin line as she realized she’d been caught.

In the next instant, Roman lifted her high into his arms, making her bounce. Julie smiled, feeling like a child in his care.

Slowly, Julie’s lips curled up into a gentle smile, and she hid her face by gently lowering it, her long eyelashes casting a subtle shadow on her cheeks.

She felt a warmth in her heart, and her smile grew wider as she thought about Roman’s actions.

What he did made her feel like a child being lifted by her father, and she couldn’t help but feel a sense of comfort and security.

Gently keeping her behind the dining chair, Roman walked back to the other side of the dining table, his movements fluid and confident.

He lowered himself into his seat, his eyes fixed on the steaming noodles in front of him. "Eat, we have a lot to discuss," Roman said, taking his fork and digging into the noodles with a practiced ease.

The aroma of the noodles wafted through the air, tantalizing Julie’s senses and making her stomach growl with anticipation.

Nodding, Julie slowly reached for the chopsticks instead of a fork, her fingers wrapping around the smooth wood.

She started eating, determined not to let the noodles get cold. As the old saying goes (or at least in her book!), "Food is never nice when it’s cold unless it’s snacks."

Slowly, Julie took a bite, and her eyes lit up with delight. The flavors exploded on her tongue, and she hummed in appreciation. "Hmm," she murmured, savoring the taste.

’God, is this how good he is at cooking? No wonder he doesn’t have chefs despite being wealthy enough to afford them,’ Julie thought, closing her eyes to fully appreciate the flavors.

Roman gazed at her with a questioning look, wondering why she kept her eyes closed. ’Is she sleepy?’ he thought, his brow furrowing slightly.

But as Julie continued to savor the taste, she suddenly started shoveling the noodles into her mouth, and Roman was taken aback.

’What the hell is wrong with her? Or is she that hungry?’ Roman asked himself, his eyes narrowing slightly as he watched her.

Still though he already guess what is wrong his brain didn’t let him rest and get into another thought watching Julia shoving the food in her mouth like there’s no Tomorrow.

’Does she think the noodles are going to run away if she doesn’t eat them fast enough?’ Roman wondered in his mind dryly.

’Yeah, she must not have eaten much yesterday; she must be hungry,’ Roman thought to himself, keeping a watchful eye on Julie as she devoured the noodles with gusto.

While Julie was busy shoveling the noodles into her mouth, oblivious to Roman’s amused gaze, she suddenly choked. "Cuff, cuff," Julie coughed, her face turning red.

Just as she was about to reach for the cup to pour herself some water, she saw it in front of her, courtesy of Roman’s swift action.

Murmuring a thank you, Julie took the glass from his hand and carefully took a sip, slowly gulping the water down her parched throat.

Roman watched her with a mix of amusement and concern.

"Next time, tell me when you’re hungry. You don’t have to shove food into your mouth like you’ve spent a month without eating,"

Roman said, his voice laced with a warning tone. Julie’s face turned bright red as she realized her lack of finesse.

Roman’s handsome face still looked intimidating, and Julie quickly nodded her head to avoid provoking him further.

"You can go back to eating now," he said, picking up his fork and digging into his noodles.

As Julie picked up her chopsticks, she heard Roman’s voice again.

"With elegance," he emphasizesaid on the word legant without raising his eyes from his bowl. Julie rolled her eyes, muttering under her breath, "Like I’m a queen or something."

The image of her shoveling noodles into her mouth was so comical that Roman almost smiled.

Julie’s cheeks bulged like a chipmunk’s, and she looked like she hadn’t eaten in weeks.

After eating, Roman washed the bowls, which made Julie feel a bit uneasy.

She couldn’t walk properly and felt a little dizzy, so she let him do the dishes without protest.

Walking out of the kitchen, Roman headed directly to the living room, where he gently placed Julie on the cushion earlier.

Sitting on the other couch facing her, with a serious expression and his legs crossed, Roman leaned back into the cushion. His hand rested on the armrest as he said, "We need to talk."
