Chapter 998: Chapter 545: The Treasure is Hidden So Secretively!
"Boss, are we all going down?" Elijah Hastings asked.
"No, you and I will go, Lincoln Harrington and Douglas will stay outside to guard," Sean Knight waved his hand, "Our tent is quite conspicuous, plus the car. Anyone who sees it will probably think about coming over to scout.
So, we must leave people outside."
"Alright," Lincoln Harrington packed up the tool shovel and, taking the assault rifle from his back, said, "We’ll stay here and guard."
"I’m going up there to keep a lookout," Douglas Cooper also took his gun and left the tent to find a high place suitable for observation, put on camouflage clothing, and lay down to observe.
Sean Knight and Elijah Hastings, each holding a high-powered flashlight in one hand and a tool shovel in the other, with rifles on their backs, entered the cave.
The air inside was mixed with a slightly unpleasant smell, but Sean Knight could tell that the air in the cave was circulating, at least it wasn’t completely sealed off.
Could there be another exit?
Sean Knight was merely speculating as he looked left and right and noticed no excavated parts, where the warrior statues still stood lifelike, only it was unknown when they would see the light of day again.
Walking down to the main entrance of the corridor, the earthen floor turned into a slightly dry and smooth stone slab pathway.
At the end of the corridor was a stone wall.
At present, it was not clear whether that was just a barrier stone wall or if there were two branching corridors on either side.
Under the Sky Eye status, there were no traps or hidden weapons in the corridor, just stone slabs laid on the soil.
Elijah Hastings led the way, shining the high-powered flashlight ahead, and found no signs of living creatures.
The two of them reached the end of the corridor and stepped onto the fork, only to see that it was just a stone wall, with a relief depicting the story of a warrior leading his fighters to defeat enemies.
Sean Knight just glanced at the relief and roughly deduced that it should be from three or four hundred years ago.
Turning right past the stone wall, they found a large main hall ahead.
The area of the main hall was about the size of two basketball courts, with rows of stone warrior statues standing on each side.
These warrior statues all held curved knives, majestically looking towards the center of the corridor.
"Boss, those curved knives, they seem real," Elijah Hastings said suddenly, as he shone the high-powered flashlight on the statues.
"Indeed, they are real," Sean Knight nodded, "However, don’t worry, they won’t move, they won’t start chopping at us like in the movies when we reach the center."
Elijah Hastings smiled and walked towards the warrior statues.
Sean Knight also walked over, approaching one of the warrior statues, he looked at the curved knife in the statue’s hand and reached out to take it down.
It turned out that those curved knives were inserted in the hands of the statues. The stone statues were carved in such a way that their palms had a specific spot to hold the curved knives.
After the statues were finished, the curved knives were placed in the palm of their hands.
Sean Knight swung the curved knife a couple of times, the slicing sound through the air was quite satisfying to hear.
"Let’s leave the knife here for now; we’ll see if we need to take it with us when we come out," Sean Knight said, then continued to walk deeper into the hall with Elijah Hastings.
The great hall was very spacious but seemed to be just a transitional place. Besides the warrior statues and reliefs, there was nothing else of value.
At the end of the great hall was a stone door. Sean Knight and Elijah Hastings pushed the stone door open together to find a set of downward stairs leading to five-level steps behind it.
Walking down the stairs and shining the high-powered flashlight ahead, they discovered a relatively smaller palace.
In the center of the palace was a warrior statue over two meters tall, situated on a stone platform one meter high and one and a half meters wide.
Compared to the statues outside, this statue was taller, larger, and more vividly depicted.
The helmet of the statue was exquisitely crafted, its eyes were inlaid with two emeralds, it was adorned in golden armor, and both hands wielded curved knives, looking very formidable.
Sean Knight approached and tapped lightly on the statue, realizing that it was hollow and made of copper.
"This statue must have several hundred years of history, right?" Elijah Hastings asked.
"There’s writing on the stone platform, but it’s unfamiliar," Sean Knight pointed to the curved characters on the stone platform.
"I’ll take a photo and check it later, find a translator," Elijah Hastings reached for his mobile phone while Sean Knight illuminated the characters for him to take the photo.
The palace space wasn’t large, with only this statue in the center. After taking the photo, Elijah Hastings looked around and tapped the walls with the engineer shovel.
"There can’t just be these two halls, that would be too rudimentary!" Elijah Hastings said while tapping.
Sean Knight looked around and then pushed hard on a section of the stone wall to the left of the statue, revealing a secret door.
"There really are mechanisms! Though it’s a bit too simple," Elijah Hastings remarked with a hint of surprise, clicking his tongue.
Sean Knight did not explain; in fact, the secret door wasn’t simple at all. While the door’s location was easy to find, considering the palace only had four walls,
the spot Sean Knight had pressed had a small, faint pattern that would be difficult to find without careful examination. If you didn’t press the exact spot where the pattern was, the door wouldn’t open.
The secret door opened, revealing a corridor two meters wide and two meters high, which extended downwards at an angle.
Using the flashlight to follow the corridor downwards, they could see that it extended for nearly twenty meters before reaching a dead end, where there was a turn.
