Chapter 979: Chapter 538: The Treasure of the King of Persia_3
Sean Knight nodded and said,
"Let’s go check it out."
Several people got into the car again, and Zack drove towards the ruins.
From a distance, Sean Knight could see that there were people moving in the ruins, but not many.
The car stopped near the ruins, and everyone got out. Zack reminded them,
"Take the guns with you; this place isn’t safe."
Elijah Hastings and the others didn’t need Zack to remind them; they had already taken the guns with them.
Walking into the ruins, Sean Knight saw the staggering figures were nothing but the elderly scavenging through the debris.
Their clothes were very tattered, to say that they barely covered the body would not be an exaggeration.
Indeed, as Zack had said, there was hardly anything intact here anymore.
Occasionally, a completely intact small house would appear with some scavenged items piled inside, it seemed there were people living here.
These ruins were actually not big, roughly equivalent to the size of a small town in China. Scanning with Sky Eye, one could see that indeed many of the centuries-old houses had been destroyed.
The ruins had indeed been turned over many times, and had essentially been leveled flat. Some of the walls that were originally standing and not completely demolished were later destroyed by those who came after.
"Those who came here before even used metal detectors, and it’s said that they indeed found some valuable items," Zack said enviously as he carried his gun and kicked a stone away. "Then they made a fortune and left for the metropolis or abroad."
It was clear that Zack truly envied those who had left these places.
His expression was very straightforward.
Sean Knight felt this was a bit like the Chinese people in the 1980s, envying those who had gone out.
After all, the world outside was really much better than here.
"Let’s go, let’s go in and take a look," Sean Knight said indifferently, "let’s see if we are in luck."
Elijah Hastings and the others followed.
Zack didn’t say anything and simply accompanied Sean Knight for a walk. After all, Zack had seen Sean Knight’s abilities—not to mention digging up those items, at least when dealing with those people, if it weren’t for Sean Knight and his people, the tribe would probably have already faced a disaster by now.
The scavengers saw Sean Knight and the others carrying guns as they approached and panicked, swaying as they attempted to flee.
"Tell them, no need to run; we’re just here to take a look," Sean Knight said. "We won’t harm them."
Zack immediately shouted a few sentences.
Upon hearing Zack’s voice, the people stopped hesitantly, but didn’t approach Sean Knight and the rest.
Sean Knight activated his Sky Eye and scanned the ruins.
As expected, under the ruins, only some commonly used items remained. Anything of value had already been taken.
However, Sean Knight was not disappointed, as what he was capable of finding was what ordinary people couldn’t find.
If everyone could find them, naturally it wouldn’t be his turn.
After half an hour, they had searched the entire ruins and even found that cellars of some ancient buildings had been dug out.
Sean Knight affirmed that this ruin was really not the location of the King of Persia’s treasure; at most, it could be considered an ancient city.
Walking out of the ruins, Sean Knight looked around and then at the ground before saying to Zack,
"Get in the car, let’s drive around here."
Zack, seeing that Sean Knight had found nothing, actually breathed a sigh of relief. That was normal.
Then, following Sean Knight’s instruction, he drove around the area.
Sean Knight sat by the window, activating Sky Eye and scanning the surroundings.
They drove past small oases and suspicious piles of stones.
It was clear to see that these places had been visited by cars.
And based on what Sky Eye showed, they got nothing.
Having almost seen all of the wasteland, Sean Knight had Zack drive near a slope,
"Drive over there, find a shady spot; let’s take a break and have lunch."
Zack drove to the bottom of the slope and stopped in a shaded area.
Sean Knight and the others got out of the car; Elijah Hastings took out self-heating food from inside the car while Lincoln Harrington brought out water, and Douglas Cooper took a set of foldable tactical table and chairs out of the carriage compartment, set them up firmly, and then arranged the food on top.
"Halal food; let’s eat together." Seeing Zack walk to the side, Sean Knight gestured to him the symbol on the package, "These items come from some special supply factories, and there are also halal soldiers in the army; you can eat them."
Zack came over, saw the halal symbol written in Chinese and the local language, nodded his head, sniffed the items, and believed it.
After everyone finished eating, Elijah Hastings found a bag to collect the garbage, put it in the carriage compartment, and prepared to take it away when they left.
Zack, seeing this, said with a sigh,
"It’s you guys... Those treasure hunters would leave behind a large amount of garbage here and not care at all. Actually, we don’t care either, but... I didn’t expect you to be quite concerned about these things."
Sean Knight just smiled and didn’t speak, then he walked to the side, intending to relieve himself.
He walked about several tens of meters, making sure no one was around and that it was adequately concealed before planning to dispose of his bodily waste.
Then he felt that the Yin Qi was quite heavy here, and a thought suddenly surged in Sean Knight’s mind - could there be something strange here?
He hurriedly finished urinating and immediately activated his Sky Eye, observing his surroundings.
Then he discovered that although this place was called a slope, it was actually built up by humans near a hill.
Right beneath this slope, within the soil, there was a stone building with a corridor running through it.
On either side, there were rows of stately stone warriors over one-meter-tall, though now buried in the soil.
The trouble was that the site was quite deep, but the good news was that the entrance to the corridor was just buried with about two meters of soil, and one could enter the corridor by clearing it away.
There was no soil in the corridor itself, making it relatively easy to enter.
As for what was inside, Sean Knight couldn’t really see.
But he didn’t mind - there were definitely good items in there.
It’s just that right now might not be the optimal time to start digging.
Sean Knight used his Sky Eye to check once more, then slowly returned to the side of the car.
"Mr. Knight, where are we going later?"
After having his fill, Zack asked.
"Are there any similar ruins nearby? Let’s go have a look," Sean Knight said. "Perhaps in other places, we can find what we’re looking for."
And so, they drove to other locations.
